I have recently re-installed Windows xp and all is fine with that operating system, but the problem that I do have is.I have two hard drives but only one is showing up. I know it is still there somewhere, but how do I make it available to use?
View 14 RepliesI am having a small problem. I have an old server, a Compaq Proliant 1600. I have had it for about 2 years, and today I finally decided to work on it. I added some more RAM, and installed Windows XP. It has six 9.1 GB Hard Drives, but it only recognizes the one hard drive that the OS is on. That is the only drive that will show up when ever I go to My Computer. My question, how do I get the other 5 hard drives to show up?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had to do an reformat on my PC. Before the reformat, my PC read both my external hard drives no problem. Then after the reformat, it only would read one. When I would restart with both connected, it wouldn't budge from the welcome screen. After I would unplug the "questionable" one, it would then allow me to log in as usual. I think it could be a driver issue but I'm not totally sure because it does read it after a little while. I changed the USB cable, so for now, it is holding. Can anybody figure out what it might be?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy grandads cd-rom drive and cdwr drive are missing. There not in my computer or the device manager. I do not know when these went missing because my grandad does not use the drives often. I can still open the cd-rom drive and I can hear it loading, but I cannot open the cdwr drive. I tried a system restore point but that had no effect. So what do I need to do to get the drives back.

View 2 Replies View Relatedjust recently i was doing my usual bit and both cd/dvd drives droped out, after vigorous testing i found cdrom.sys and its shared componants refused to mount the drives as the service could not start, so i tried updating the drivers - no drivers more suitable than the ones i already have, my oppinion is the files are corrupt but it seems pretty hard to find replacments without individually going through the entire .cab database on the x64 disk, this is something i wish to avoid just incase its not even the problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP home setup on a pentium IV system. I have two hard disks partitioned to give 3 partitions on one and two on the other. Quite often when I start windows it appears to boot normally but in Explorer I can only see the home partition. Explorer runs very slowly and crashes. I've checked for viruses, run adaware and spybot but can't fix it. I have AVG and sygate personal fire wall running.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI removed a CD/RW drive and replaced it with a DVD/RW drive. I now have 2 DVD/RW drives. They are NEC-3500 and NEC-3540. The NEC-3400 was in my system before and worked fine. I have tried the registry fix CDGONE, unintalling the IDE controllers, reinstalling the newest Gigabyte board drivers, and removing the high and low filters. None of it has worked. I still can't use either DVD/CD. I have nothing with an alert in the system devices. They are not showing there. Also I tried putting the CD/RW back in and the red light stays lit up as soon as I connect it. It will not recognize that either. Tried system restore to before the change and putting the DVD/RW, DVD player and CD/RW back in I had before and it failed the restore. I also tried re-storing the registry but system restore removed the save I had and it's gone. I also tried hooking up a brand new Seagate IDE 200 GB hard drive I bought for backups and it doesn't recognize it. I have add on SATA card which is where my main Hard drive was before this and it still boots up fine.I just cannot use any CD or DVD in my system which is a major problem. I had DVD easy creator and a DVD copy program, including a DVD for free. I removed them all incase it was causing a problem. Still nothing recognized. When the motherboard boots up it finds nothing under IDE then goes to my SATA board and boots up.The IDE controllers are turned on in BIOS and all IDE's are turned on for auto sense in the BIOS. I had not made any changes in the BIOS before or after this. I need someone with some ideas.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just installed a 320gb I had around in a spare PC. I was reading up on jumping everything and understood that I should set the main HD as master and the spare HD as slave on the primary IDE connector, then set my DVD drive as CS on the secondary.My problem is that the master and slave connectors on the ribbon cable aren't long enough to reach both drives.(only places the drives will fit) So I hooked everything up CS while I put the main HD on the primary IDE and then hooked the DVD and spare drive on the secondary IDE. Everything seems to work fine and I can see both drives and everything, but on bootup I have to go into the boot menu and pick the main HD to boot. Is it safe to run everything this way? And if so how do I fix the booting issue?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI connect to my network drive through a VPN. The problem comes when I restart my computer - the mapped drive is missing and I have to start all over again.
This same problem exists if I use another user account too. How can this be fixed.
When I boot my pc it freezes on the boot unless i press F10 and select my primary drive. If I press F2 to get into my bios it also freezes. Once I get into windows (booting slower then normal) I can not see my optical drives. The optical drives are showing in the device manager however.

What I am trying to do is access and run a program that was installed on the WIN 98 Hard Drive. The software was an expensive Patent Software and I no longer have the installation disk.Here is what I have already tried:1. Connected the WIN98 hard drive to my XP Computer and booted up. Computer started to boot into WIN98 but came back with some kind of memory error and shut down.2. All I want to do is boot to XP home located on different drives, one older, one newer but both with SP2Just built new computer (first time builder) I installed three hard drives, drive H is a new boot disk with XP home, drive C is a storage disk from old computer and disk L is the older boot disk with XP home (reformatted within the past year). The MB assigned the drive letters, not me.H and C are slave and master on Primary IDE, L is Master attached to a PCI card.I want to boot from L. Boot sequence does not recognize L but it does offer the option of booting from OTHER DEVICE so I disable all drives (including H,C and two dvd drives) but it still boots to the new H drive.The bios does not recognize drive L (I guess cause its attached to the PCI card?). My thinking is that if I set up L directly to MB and switch one of the DVD drives to the PCI card it will work.If I do that then I think the MB will recognize drive L and allow me to set it up in the boot sequence the same way that the new drive works.I don't know what I should worry about BUT I am sure that I don't know what will go wrong.

Does any body know how I would wipe, or reformat it? One last question, I have another hard drive, its empty and I don't think its formatted. If I were to use it as the primary hard drive and use my XP boot cd, would it install?

View 15 Replies View RelatedI've had my computer since Christmas of last year. It's a pretty nice rig, lots of nice stuff in it. I'll start out with the first problem I've had with it. My DVD drive: it just disappears. I'll be running fine one minute, then the next my computer will freeze for a few seconds, then it's fine, then it'll freeze again, then it's fine. Then I take a look at my list of drives, and my DVD drive isn't on the list. I can still see my two hard drives, but not my DVD drive. This wasn't a HUGE issue to me; I figured I would just have to deal with not being able to install games or watch movies on my computer.So then, after trying to troubleshoot this issue for quite some time, I decide to completely power off my PC, including turning it off with the switch in the back. After waiting a few minutes, I flip the switch, and I hear the sound of something sparking and frying. "That's odd," I think to myself, but try to turn my computer on anyway. No response. I mash the power button but it just won't turn on. Turns out my power supply was fried. "Alright," I said. "I'll just go upgrade." But my dad disagreed and simply purchased one that was roughly equivalent to the one I currently had. Oh well, it's served me fine so far.
Recently, my problems have been getting worse. We tried reinstalling Windows, thinking that might fix the DVD drive. My dad hands me this "custom" CD with Windows and SP2 installed, and since he's likely to start screaming and spitting if I don't do his bidding, I installed with this CD. I am not sure if this was a mistake or not, but I'm thinking it was.Recently my computer has been locking and freezing at random intervals, usually while I'm playing World of Warcraft, though it also has happened at least twice while I'm just playing around on the computer, browsing the internet, ETC. The other day I was playing WoW and a bluescreen popped up. Here's the technical information, or whatever it is.
I'm pretty computer savvy, but I've always struggled to confugure this RAID motherboard, but I've never encountered an error like this. I formatted a 60Gb Maxtor D740X-6L IDE drive with NTFS through an external harddrive connected to a laptop. THe drive is now blank. I connected this as a master on Channel 3 IDE on my Abit KG7 RAID mother board. I also connected my CD Writer to IDE channel 2 as a master, with a copy of WIndows XP in it. (I connected it like this because it doesn't recognise my harddrive on Channel 1 or 2 on the first page.)
When I try to boot I get the following error: BOOTMGR is missing. The strange thing is, as it boots it lists all four drive channels, and only shows Primary Master: 6L060J3 (presumably IDE channel 1). It does not show my CD writer, and infact the drive is connected to IDE channel 3. As you can see in attached photo1........
Problem with low disk space on the 1st of 2 hard drives. This hard drive is only 4 GB, and is my master drive. I have moved as many files as I possibly can to the second (larger) hard drive, without uninstalling and reinstalling all my programs.
Is there any way to simply get any "overflow" to "fall into" the other drive.
everytime i start my pc i get the following message:
error auto-sensing primary hard disk drive 0 strike the f1 key to continue, f2 to run the setup utility.
when i push f1 the same message will pop up.if i go into the setup utility and look at the primary drive 0 it says hard drive.it stands on auto but it doesnt show the capacity.
the same thing with the secondary rive 1.i have 2 hard drives.1 with 20 gig and the second 1 with 250 gig.both arent recognized by my pc.i cant format the pc cause i dont have hard drives to install xp on >.<
I have a computer running Windows XP PRO SP2 with 2, 250gb hard drives. The operating system and programs are on the C drive and the second drive which is removable is supposed to be for my data, but Windows doesn't recognize it so I can't use it. Right now I have my data on an external hard drive, connected by USB.
The second hard drive is new from my manufacturer (I have a custom computer and this is a replacement hard drive--the original was faulty) and I haven't put anything on it yet. When I first put it in my machine, I was able to see it in "My Computer". The next day when I was ready to start copying my data over, it was nowhere to be found. I turned off the machine, pulled out the drive and put it back and rebooted--still no show.
Can you have more than one copy of XP on the same computer with two hard drives, that can be validated please.

I have a Windows folder as well.I also still have a Windows98 Folder on this drive.I cannot access the latest e-mails in the new configuration - or anything else for that matter and know that I am going to have to reinstall all programs.How and where do I find those missing e-mails, or can I uninstall this new version and revert to the old one?

I get a message "Windows Script Host" and "cannot find script file, "C:autorun.vbs" when I click on my "C" icon. Right clicking gives me gibberish in the menu box where the "Open" should be. I can still get through to the contents via My Documents and up-leveling.
