I have somehow misread your entire post. I thought you had a sound card installed. If it is the AC'97 codec here is the> download page for it. I believe it is the third one down:

I'm getting very nervous that I haven't made these impt system recovery discs.I bought 10 CDs at the time I bought PC and was assured they were the right type. When I got ready to create the discs, my PC said I would need 18 CDs.I backed out at that point so don't know if the ones I have are the right kind.I'm going out this week to buy some more, but still have doubts I'm getting the right kind.My HP guide says I need: CD-R.What I have is: SONY CD-R AUDIO (compact disc digital audio recordable.
carried out a system recovery (xp home) now i have lost my sound.no audio device is detected. (on board sound card)i've checked the soundcard (AC'97) is set to 'auto' in the bios.have installed new up to date driver. have done system restore.
i have an acer desktop and i would like to re-install my xp . I was given two discs with my system with the first being titled " system cd " and the second labeled " recovery cd " The system cd is tagged as disc 1 and the other as disc 2 . Am i correct in saying i install the first , then the second for a complete re-installation of XP ?
Recently i had to basically kill my computer to rid it of viruses etc. i had a recovery disk that came with my laptop so i was able to rebuild windows xp as well as an lg disk that restored most of my settings and programs. except now i am without sound which is turning out to be a big pain in the butt. The device manager has only one yellow warning sign over 'Other Devices - PCI Device'. could this be the reason for my missing sound? or is there something else i need to do
I lost my system recovery disc. I also lost all of my games that came with windows...free cell, solitaire, paint..etc. I just want those back. Can I run a system recovery program on windows without a disc
I want to reinstall XP with the recovery discs I made the first week after my puchase and that was 3 years ago. I am pretty clear about the procedure and I have already made a backup of my documents, pictures and music on a USB external harddrive. My question is what other info is required and will I need to do a product activation process ? I am also installing Service pack 2 for the first time because mirosoft will not support SP1 users after October 10, 2006. The last question is I have 3 pop-email accounts, yahoo, hotmail, gmail and will all the mail be destroyed or will it still be on the server after the re-install ?
My aunt is having some problems with her PC, and I'm hoping that I can fix it without a reformat.Mostly because she does not have a recovery disc. Her computer was given to her by a friend, but he kept all the OS discs and has subsequently moved away.We do have her serial number. She's running XP Home. I have an XP Pro CD,but I have a feeling that it's not going to help.Does anyone know of a way to get a replacement installation CD? Or if it's possible to repair Home from a Pro CD?
Im trying to FULLY restore my Toshiba Satellite laptop. It came with Satellite RECOVERY discs, but I didn't think those were what I was supposed to use to FULLY restore my laptop. Are they? Normally, on the boot up screens on my desktops, you can press f8 or whatever, and reformat like that. I guess thats because their desktops.
As some of you may know I recently aquired a netbook. One of the first things that popped up above the systray was a notice to create some recovery discs. Well the little thing didn't have a burner so I pressed "Ask me later." It took a while but I finally got around to buying, hooking up and downloading the software.
After burning the first disc I got a pop up to put in the second blank disc. Along with that popup was a warning to create these discs right away, before "Using the computer." A fine time to tell me. I was rooting around in the computer for a week. I just kept clicking "ask me later." There seemed to be no sense of urgency. I completed the second disc but am now wondering if I wasted my time.
I have Windows XP and have done this several times before, but this time I lost all of my photos. None of my other files were lost, only the pictures. I ran HP PC System Recovery, the non destructive version because some of my system files were missing. Problem solved on that, but now my photos are all gone. I looked at the hard drive space and I cannot remember what the exact amount was before, but it looks like I have about the same amount.
My Computer started crashing around a week ago to what I suspect was a "windows updare" problem, Well, Microsoft suggested I run a System Roll back... but it didn't take, So they suggested I run Sytem Recovery... Well this sucks because I had about 60GBs of music, video and pics on my computer. But I decided it needed to be done so the crashing would stop. So after running the process everything seemed hunkydory, everything was back to the factory defaults and my documents were all cleaned up... yet I went to My Computer and I check my free space and the 60GBs are still there! I decided to try and fing out where they were hiding and from what I have gathered they are in a file called "USERDATA" in side my C drive
hey i just did a system recovery, thinking it was a system restore, and now all my files are gone. i have a few programs, but other than that it seems as if i just bought the computer, it took me through the welcome speech and everything. i really want my files back, don't care as much about the programs because they are all replaceable,
Last Saturday I had to use the recovery disc that came inside my computer because when I tried to start the computer; just the black screen appeared, saying 'ntldr is missing Press ctrl + alt + del to restart' . I did that several times but the problem was still there. So, after the recovery I normally started the computer and logged on. I did the non-destructive system recovery. Anyways;I noticed that all my files I had in the Shared Docuemnts were stil there. I noticed that the storage percentage on the C Drive was the same I had before (93%) So, I assume that all my files, documents, music files and videos are somewhere in the computer
i need help to get back my pictures i had to do a system recovery in september i just now found out i could recover them but when i tried some of them have been overwritten is there any way that i can recover all of them i did try system restore but it is not letting me restore back please if there is someone out there who can help me i would greatly appreciate it the pictures are very important to me they are of my dad and brother who have both passed away
Windows XP and recently had to reinstall due to failures. Yesterday, I clicked on the volume control icon and it said it couldn't do anything because we didn't have an audio driver! It just worked the day before! Then the icon disappeared. The audio is gray in the sound control panel, so we can't do a thing. We have the Windows XP CD, but I don't want to mess with anything, especially after having it reinstalled a short while ago. Is there a place I can download a new driver for this system?
Right i had a fried hard drive so i took it to a local store and got them to put a new one on and load windows, great. Problem is i have no sound, for whatever reason windowns xp hasn't found it. Is there a universal driver or something i can install?
my question concerns an HP Pavillion Desktop with Windows XP Home Edition Operating System. About a week ago my computer was degenerating to such a condition that it would no longer start up properly: it would not load some of the host process properly at start up and the desk top would not appear. The system would hang up, and the only way I could access files was in safe mode.So I decided to do a Full System Recovery and allow the computer to restore itself to some sort of usable condition. Upon completing the initial set up I was presented with, I pressed FINISH and the system froze again, refusing to load the desktop. So, perhaps foolishly, I attempted a System Recovery from the Recovery DVDs the computer had prompted me to make a while ago, as well as a few more System Restores and Recoveries
Even after a fresh re-install of XP the sound driver install causes the machine to crash. No matter what I do. I have most of the files loaded except for the multimedia controller. each time I try to update it , the machine crashes. Not sure if it matters, all high priority updates are done
I have a advent 9515 laptop and i have lost my recovery disc can any 1 tell me where to get a copy of it that dose not cost a bomb cause i have a virus on my laptop and need the disc.
This is really driving me up the wall, seem to have lost the mp3 title, artist information in windows explorer now.I don't what has happened but would like to restore this functionality as I have loads of mp3's and it is quite annoying not to be able to see the artist or any other info except for the file name.I am running Win XP with SP2.
I'm using a utility called ultraiso and when trying to rip some data cds to iso, it says "Multi-track information will be lost if using standard iso format". I then rip it with nrg and rips ok. Can anyone explain what this means? if nrg just as much of widely used standard?
I recently upgraded my OS to WinXP Pro from WinME, and there is no sound. I right-click My computer, go to properties, hardware, device manager, then there are 2 yellow circles with exclamation points in them under Multimedia Audio Controller (Intel 82801AA ac'91 Audio Controller), and Unknown Device (Microsoft MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device). I tried to reinstall them, but it says There was a problem installing this hardware: Intel 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller. An error occured during the installation of the device. The data is invalid.
I succesfully update my BIOS "flash it" but lately , my sound its making some funny stuff ( like... poping sounds) and the "cliki sounds" of Windows when you open a folder, change page, etc. sometimes it sounds like a interference of a radio (bruugggtttt ) short my sound example ok , well , then it fix by itself , but then later comes again . my windows media player sounds ok, for now , havent notice slow in music yet , but musicmatch somtimes sounds funny , just the start opening music (intro) but songs OK.by the way I update my nero , so I uninstall and install the new version , I didn,t configure Nero to open wav files or sound files .should I need to update my sound driver for the chipset of SoundMax ?
