Lost Sound After System Recovery - Driver Not Working
Aug 28, 2005
I have somehow misread your entire post. I thought you had a sound card installed. If it is the AC'97 codec here is the> download page for it. I believe it is the third one down:

carried out a system recovery (xp home) now i have lost my sound.no audio device is detected. (on board sound card)i've checked the soundcard (AC'97) is set to 'auto' in the bios.have installed new up to date driver. have done system restore.
Recently i had to basically kill my computer to rid it of viruses etc. i had a recovery disk that came with my laptop so i was able to rebuild windows xp as well as an lg disk that restored most of my settings and programs. except now i am without sound which is turning out to be a big pain in the butt. The device manager has only one yellow warning sign over 'Other Devices - PCI Device'. could this be the reason for my missing sound? or is there something else i need to do
I have been having some squirely things happening like a blue screen with a code of 0x0000008e and my Picture It! software not working but now when I lost my sound for my email I checked the Sounds and Audio device in the Control Panel and now there is not even a selection for Email Notification. I have never seen this before. This is driving me nuts.
I lost my system recovery disc. I also lost all of my games that came with windows...free cell, solitaire, paint..etc. I just want those back. Can I run a system recovery program on windows without a disc
After a while my sound will cut out and when I try to play things in Winamp or anything it will stay stuck @ 0:00The sounds will sputter for a second and then freeze. Also when the sound dies, sometimes programs will start to freeze up to the point I can't even kill them in tskmgr. System sounds don't play either.I've tried updating to the latest drivers. I tried an older version of the drivers too.
I have Windows XP and have done this several times before, but this time I lost all of my photos. None of my other files were lost, only the pictures. I ran HP PC System Recovery, the non destructive version because some of my system files were missing. Problem solved on that, but now my photos are all gone. I looked at the hard drive space and I cannot remember what the exact amount was before, but it looks like I have about the same amount.
My Computer started crashing around a week ago to what I suspect was a "windows updare" problem, Well, Microsoft suggested I run a System Roll back... but it didn't take, So they suggested I run Sytem Recovery... Well this sucks because I had about 60GBs of music, video and pics on my computer. But I decided it needed to be done so the crashing would stop. So after running the process everything seemed hunkydory, everything was back to the factory defaults and my documents were all cleaned up... yet I went to My Computer and I check my free space and the 60GBs are still there! I decided to try and fing out where they were hiding and from what I have gathered they are in a file called "USERDATA" in side my C drive
hey i just did a system recovery, thinking it was a system restore, and now all my files are gone. i have a few programs, but other than that it seems as if i just bought the computer, it took me through the welcome speech and everything. i really want my files back, don't care as much about the programs because they are all replaceable,
Last Saturday I had to use the recovery disc that came inside my computer because when I tried to start the computer; just the black screen appeared, saying 'ntldr is missing Press ctrl + alt + del to restart' . I did that several times but the problem was still there. So, after the recovery I normally started the computer and logged on. I did the non-destructive system recovery. Anyways;I noticed that all my files I had in the Shared Docuemnts were stil there. I noticed that the storage percentage on the C Drive was the same I had before (93%) So, I assume that all my files, documents, music files and videos are somewhere in the computer
i need help to get back my pictures i had to do a system recovery in september i just now found out i could recover them but when i tried some of them have been overwritten is there any way that i can recover all of them i did try system restore but it is not letting me restore back please if there is someone out there who can help me i would greatly appreciate it the pictures are very important to me they are of my dad and brother who have both passed away
Windows XP and recently had to reinstall due to failures. Yesterday, I clicked on the volume control icon and it said it couldn't do anything because we didn't have an audio driver! It just worked the day before! Then the icon disappeared. The audio is gray in the sound control panel, so we can't do a thing. We have the Windows XP CD, but I don't want to mess with anything, especially after having it reinstalled a short while ago. Is there a place I can download a new driver for this system?
Right i had a fried hard drive so i took it to a local store and got them to put a new one on and load windows, great. Problem is i have no sound, for whatever reason windowns xp hasn't found it. Is there a universal driver or something i can install?
Having problems after a System Recovery. HP Pavilion Desktop 980-XA. Used the 7 System Recovery disks provided by HP. All seemed to go well. No errors appeared until I restarted.
my question concerns an HP Pavillion Desktop with Windows XP Home Edition Operating System. About a week ago my computer was degenerating to such a condition that it would no longer start up properly: it would not load some of the host process properly at start up and the desk top would not appear. The system would hang up, and the only way I could access files was in safe mode.So I decided to do a Full System Recovery and allow the computer to restore itself to some sort of usable condition. Upon completing the initial set up I was presented with, I pressed FINISH and the system froze again, refusing to load the desktop. So, perhaps foolishly, I attempted a System Recovery from the Recovery DVDs the computer had prompted me to make a while ago, as well as a few more System Restores and Recoveries
Even after a fresh re-install of XP the sound driver install causes the machine to crash. No matter what I do. I have most of the files loaded except for the multimedia controller. each time I try to update it , the machine crashes. Not sure if it matters, all high priority updates are done
i got a new computer and gave my emachines T2885 Windows XP to my brother it was running great until he decided to wipe out the computer which i have done in the past with the system recovery disks that came with it and when he did this about half way thru the recovery we get a ghost.err now it won't even boot up. i have taken it to 2 gentlemen who both charged me and didn't do anything to it but 1 guy gave me a win crash cd and told me that i could get the computer back up and running with this cd. well i have no idea how to use this disk but he charged me 100.00 dollars anyway said he just didn't have the time to fix it that the disk is all i needed. well i am broke for this and still no fix for this computer.
my computer has given me this problem in the past- and it righted itself. Not this time. I have a SoundMax onboard soundcard on a Gateway desktop, and according to device manager, everything is working fine, but no sound could come from the speakers. So I decided, maybe it is a hardware thing- I happen to have another Creative sound card here, lets try it. It worked! Yay! Then I restart, and then it stoped working too!I have two sound cards, one onboard, one PCI, both appear to be in total working order according to XP, and neither emit any sound after I restart the machine so I am assuming this is a registry issue or something windows related.
I recently upgraded my OS to WinXP Pro from WinME, and there is no sound. I right-click My computer, go to properties, hardware, device manager, then there are 2 yellow circles with exclamation points in them under Multimedia Audio Controller (Intel 82801AA ac'91 Audio Controller), and Unknown Device (Microsoft MPU-401 Compatible MIDI Device). I tried to reinstall them, but it says There was a problem installing this hardware: Intel 82801AA AC'97 Audio Controller. An error occured during the installation of the device. The data is invalid.
I succesfully update my BIOS "flash it" but lately , my sound its making some funny stuff ( like... poping sounds) and the "cliki sounds" of Windows when you open a folder, change page, etc. sometimes it sounds like a interference of a radio (bruugggtttt ) short my sound example ok , well , then it fix by itself , but then later comes again . my windows media player sounds ok, for now , havent notice slow in music yet , but musicmatch somtimes sounds funny , just the start opening music (intro) but songs OK.by the way I update my nero , so I uninstall and install the new version , I didn,t configure Nero to open wav files or sound files .should I need to update my sound driver for the chipset of SoundMax ?
install a sound driver or audio driver on windows xp, it worked on windows millenium before i upgraded to windows xp, can someone please tell me what i must do to install a sound driver and or audio driver i also have no access to the internet on that computer, this is my spare
I have a Gateway CX2618, w/ windows XP tablet edition 2005 version 2002, sp2. And wanted to wipe it clean and reinstall just the things I use. Plus my Tablet side of things hasn't worked in a long time and I was hoping the clean install would fix that. But my recovery DVD isn't working (could be user error). I DO have apps that I need to keep and I think I've backed them up to my external HD correctly.
When I was cleaning up my program list I accidentally removed my audio driver. I have been unable to find the same driver, or even a working one. HERE is my computer. I tried downloading the drivers from that site, and also from Intel.com ,but none of them have worked
I miss a step or screw up formatting just let me know. Earlier today I downloaded a sound driver for my card hoping to update it. It caused lots of problems. But first the normal details: Quote: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600) 2.65 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 FX. I have also tried removing the card, starting up the pc, rebooting, and then returning the card with no luck. I've tried uninstalling the drivers entirely but they always seem to reappear when I reboot
