Feb 12, 2005Every time you close internet explorer 6 it gives an error message saying caused fault in SHDOCVW.DLL.

Nov 20, 2008My Dell Latitude D600 with Windows XP Pro has a problem such that the shdocvw.dll file is preventing explorer.exe from opening. The message recommends installing the .dll file. So far I only have a blank desktop with no icons and no taskbar. To move around I am using Control, Alternate, Delete to shut down or go to Task Manager. Also I can get to the Safe Mode screen. Does any one have any suggestion as to how to work within the WindowsSystem32 folder

Sep 28, 2006My pc is so slow that it takes ages to play a song in wmp11. Ive used tools like ad-aware and registry mechanic, tune up utilities. But still no improvement. It used to be just fine, until I installed some pay-for-viewing add program. I have uninstalled it since then, but the slowness remains. And the processor is hogged, at the highest level, even though i killed many a startup processes.

So i downloaded the IE7 install package on my other computer and burned to disk to install. everything was going along fine, and when prompted to restart to finsih the installation i did so..... that is when "it" hit the fan.

Now whenever I try to start Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer the windows installer starts and the windows will not open until I have cancelled the installer several times. Feb 26, 2005I turned off my computer and everything worked fine. I turned it on today and when I open my Internet Explorer I get the message "Page cannot be displayed" My Netscape browser works fine. Apr 17, 2005A friend of mine installed the Mozilla browser and I didnt like it so I uninstalled it. Anyways to make a long story short..Since then,In the address bar (ie icon), and all my internet links (internet shortcuts) show as an unassigned file type now. So for instance if I drag an http link from my browser to my desktop...it does not show as an ie link anymore (just a random file type). So when I right click my internet links and say "open with" internet explorer it works. However...when I select the check box "always open with this program" it will not change all of my internet shortcuts appear with the "IE" icon like it should

Apr 30, 2008I was reading a string from 2007 on this site about a similar problem I'm having. My XP computer keeps resetting and after the computer restarts and an error report is sent I get a rather vague web page from Microsoft that a device driver might be at fault.
The string I mentioned reading involved a member here that seemed very knowledgeable and quite helpful, I think it was "The Hound" at any rate in reading the string The Hound recommended setting up the error process, for lack of a better term, to not automatically reboot so the message on the bluescreen could be read. I've done that but the system is stable for now.
