Memory Fault
Nov 26, 2008I've just found out that one of my client's computers has a memory fault. Now, I know this is rather an obvious question, but should I wait for the new memory to arrive and then update Windows

View 11 Replies View RelatedI was reading a string from 2007 on this site about a similar problem I'm having. My XP computer keeps resetting and after the computer restarts and an error report is sent I get a rather vague web page from Microsoft that a device driver might be at fault.
The string I mentioned reading involved a member here that seemed very knowledgeable and quite helpful, I think it was "The Hound" at any rate in reading the string The Hound recommended setting up the error process, for lack of a better term, to not automatically reboot so the message on the bluescreen could be read. I've done that but the system is stable for now.
I have a bad problem with my pc right now , i will be happy if you could help me.
at first i didnt have any problems with opening some complex or hard softwares like games or some .EXE files , that every time i tried to open these programs, the blue page appear and it says Page-fault-in-nonpaged-area. and after that the system will be reboot. i even reinstall the windows, and after installing my devices, i faced with this problem again , and it drove me crazy
I have been recieving his BCoD for about two weeks Minidumps attached.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had XP Pro installed and running fine and decided I wanted to upgrade to Windows 7. I copied everything I wanted to save onto my 2 storage drives and did a format/install of Windows 7 Ultimate. I had no bugs, but I quickly found out that I couldn't use all three of my monitors (one of them is connected via PCI AGP card--you can't do that with 7), and my sound card is incompatible with Windows 7. So I decided to go back to XP.
The first part of the install goes fine-- The drive formats (I've tried both quick and non-quick formatting) and the setup files copy without a hitch. Computer restarts and the setup continues up to about 2/3 into "Installing Drivers" and I get the page_fault_in_nonpaged_area BSOD. I tried using each memory stick separately and I get the same error. I used memtest and found no errors in the memory. I've tried disabling CPU internal and external Cache and lowering memory timings.
When I fired it up I found that there was only one 250 GB partition with XP on it. I thought what a waste, and decided to install Ubuntu Linux as dual boot. So I pop in the Ubuntu CD, and click install, when the partition manager comes up, I delete the 250GB partition and create three partitions, a 125gb ext3, a 122gb ntfs, and a 3gb swap. I finish installing Ubuntu and all is great.
Then I wanted to install XP again (since I deleted the whole 250 GB partition). So I pop in the XP SP2 cd, and start the setup. But when I got the to choosing partitions, it doesnt show any! The installer didnt detect any partitions! When I continue I get the follwoing error:
Quote: the problem seems to be caused by the following file: setupdd.sys
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
suddenly started to continually reboot without fully loading. They are both WinXP machines and have AVG loaded as their antivirus software. After prompting me to log in as a user (and before I can even do this) they both display a blue screen with the following message. PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and then advises me to try Safe mode, etc
I am able to fully load the machines in Safe mode (though I can't do much in this mode) I haven't installed any new hardware, can't swear that someone hasn't tried to install neww software but think its VERY unlikely. I've tried restarting them in selective startup with all startup programs disabled, still get the BSOD.
My OS is XP PRO SP3 and when I boot I get the dreaded BSOD Stop: 0x00000050. I can boot in safe mode without any problems. I have run the Windows Memory Diagnostic but no errors were detected. I have opened the case to ensure that everything is seated and plugged in firmly. I have checked BIOS memory options but there is no option to disable caching or shadowing. A screen shot of the BSOD is attached

I got page_fault_in_nonpaged_area error with following tech info:
0x00000050 (0xF80F6660,0x00000000,0xF7BD971E,0x00000000)
It happened for the first time a few days ago but didn't take notice of it I couldn't open computer at all cause of blue screen & reboots happening all the time I forgot how to start Safe mode It continued today but when I unplugged cable that leads to external disc from the USB I managed to get in It's a prehistoric computer: Intel Pentium III ~ 512Mhz ~ 192mb RAM ~ 20 GB disc (currently only 250MB available ).
I've been getting this Windows Secure Alert that my Windows Firewall is off but I can't turn it on ~ neither in the security center nor in Control Panel - I click and nothing happens, I don't get any "Your virtual memory is too low to perform this operation blabla"
This screen was coming up for a while now in every second or third day in the morning when I boot up. Now it's doing almost daily. It temporarily solved the problem to higher a little bit on vcore or lover a bit on fsb, but that only works for a few boot ups. thought it was my processor giving up, I switched to a brand new one but it's still doing the same. Only after the switch I wasn't able to boot up, not even to bios. When I got out my second videocard (I have two 8800 GTS 640) the computer booted again and worked fine for a day when blue screen appeared again. In the end I could boot up with two videocards with the order changed so that's ok. I tested memory for hours and it was fine. I switched processor. I updated windows
View 5 Replies View Relatedrunning an AMD Athlon XP 2600 I know, kinda old, but he only plays Diablo II on it anyways) and I found a 3200 chip for it for cheap, so I bought it, and installed it. Now, this CPU was in working condition when I bought it. I removed the old thermal grease, applied new stuff, and installed it. It isn't running hot, only around 28C. When I boot XP, it will get to the loading screen, and the green bar will go across once, and then it BSOD's with the Page_Fault_In_Non_Paged_Area screen. It will quckly restart after flashing the BSOD It took a while to figure out what the BSOD said, I had to take a video and play it back frame by frame
View 1 Replies View RelatedWell, the blue screen crashes were sporadic a few weeks ago, but this comp crashed 3 times today The most common errors are "Driver irql not less or equal" and "Page fault in nonpaged area" The things I've tried: -a system restore to last month -reinstalled windows -checked device manager for exclamation marks -a friend said it could be bad memory, so i swapped a spare 512mb stick with another of the same brand. ( 512mb x 2 in dual channel), it still crashed afterward. However i could have swapped out the wrong stick so i'll try the other

HP Pavillion A1230n with XP Media Center edition. MOBO died a couple of months ago so replaced with ASUS M3N78-VM and 2Gb memory. System has been running great since repair until last week. Began to show signs of IE7 search engine hijack, but all scans show negative (Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Avira, etc. Google Chrome worked okay, so problem was specific to IE. Tried to get to Safe Mode to run scans and got BSOD. System would boot "normally", but BSOD with page fault error whenever I tried to boot to Safe Mode. Replaced memory with same results. System now BSOD's on all attempted startups. safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, and normal, all with same BSOD results.
Ran Spinrite against drive with negative findings. Created new XP install on another drive and system boots fine. Cloned original boot drive to new 500Gb drive using Clonezilla and get same BSOD results with cloned drive as I did with original drive.
Tried repair install to original drive but system does not recognize new MOBO BIOS as the originator of the Restore disk
I recently Formatted my Packard Bell XP (SP3) Desktop using the Packard Bell partition to revert back to factory settings. Everything worked ok and things were running fine until I suddenly got a BSOD, saying there was a corrupt or missing Windows Config file (Not sure if it's connected but I did a forced shutdown prior to this).
I checked all connections, RAM, Graphics etc and all seemed ok, I was unable to get into any recovery or safe mode options so I then used my Packard Bell Recovery DVD to reinstall everything. The recovery appeared to be going well and all the files loaded but when the system goes through the 'Windows Burnin' stage it goes to the BSOD 'Page Fault in non Paged area'
just start my PC and suddenly it was black after Windows XP logo screen and flashes BSOD. I did install a driver recently. Cannot enter safe mode as it stopped at /driver/JGOJO Cannot enter "from previous working setting" I can't boot up at all. The error code in the blue screen is Page Fault in Non Paged Area with code 0x00000050 something.

In my efforts I ended up with a blue screen with the claim that I have a "page fault in nonpaged area" and it instructs me to remove cache, shadowing and various other exercises that can't be done or are not relevant. There is also a series of changing causes similar, if not the same, as those reported by others that are having problems and are similarly titled in this forum area
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to upgrade the RAM memory on my Gateway MX3230 notebook. It presently has 256 MB and I would like to upgrade to 1 GB. I have checked the Gateway website and and upgrade to 1 GB is acceptable. I purchased a memory module from Kingston which was listed as being compatible with my laptop. When I tried installing the module, the computer will not start, nothing but black screen. It's as thought there is no memory at all. I tried re-installing the module making sure it was inserted in as far as it will go, still no luck. There is no settings in bios that I can see that would prevent the acceptance of this module

Dell Inspiron 6400, Windows XP I can usually fix simple problems, so many people ask me to help them with simple problems. My mother had what i thought to be a simple problem that now appears to be a fatal problem. My mom ran Lavasoft Ad-Aware because the computer seemed to be running slower then normal, also receiving many more pop-ups then normal. Ad-Aware was detecting around 50 infections, the infections kept returning even after Ad-Aware 'fixed' them. many pop-ups and slow performance. I did the same thing, ran Ad-Aware, and recognized that the majority of infections cam from the same root files; rustock, vxgame and spyware.trojan. Ad-Aware could not remove them so i downloaded Spybot, Spybot did the same thing, recognized them but after restart the problems and the infections were still there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Intel pentium 4 cpu 2.40GHz, 1.25 GB RAM. Iam using 80 GB samsung hard disk.
I installed Microsoft Windows XP Professional service pack 2 on a drive of 10 GB memory space with NTFS file system.
After the installation of Win XP, the drive properties shows 4.9 GB of used memory and only 4.45 GB of free memory, but when I try to find total memory occupied for all the files in that drive (using "select-all" and properties) the used memory is only 2.3 GB only.
Now I don't understand the huge difference of this memories calculations. Where that extra used memory gone, when the total memory occupied by all the files is much less.
why my Windowx XP sees only 1024 MB memory while I've increased the original memory of 512 MB by 2x 512 MB ?My motherboard has three DDR-slots. It had from the beginning a Kingston K 512MB PC2700 module in slot #1. This week I've added two Kingston K512 UDIMM 512MB PC2700 modules in the slots #2 and #3.All three modules has the type name KVR333X64C25/512, so I thought they would be compatible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a white box Pentium 4 CPU with XP professional service pack 2 build 2600 installed. The motherboard is an intel D865GLC with 512 MB RAM installed in Dual channel mode with 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 1 and 1 256 MB stick of ram in slot zero of bank 2. This memory is dual channel compatible. I tried to add another 2 sticks of the same type ram but from a different manufacturer.
Here's the problem: I can use any 2 of the 4 sticks of ram together, both from the same manufacturer or 1 from 1 manufacturer and 1 from the other for a total of 512 MB. Everything works fine. I can place one stick in slot 0 of bank 1 and the other in slot 0 of bank 2 or I can place 1 in slot 1 bank 1 and 1 in slot 1 of bank 2 with no problems. I can even place a 3rd stick of the same type ram in any open slot and all's fine (except the machine complains that this is not an optimal memory setup). Memtest86 reports no errors with any of the above configurations
I was running Outlook, AIM, and IE at the same. After a few moment, I'd get this following message:
Your system is low on virtual memory. Windows is increasing the size of your Virtual Memory Paging file. During this process, memory requests for some applications may be denied.
When I hit OK, all my applications would close, except my Outlook. I'm running Win2K with 512 memory. My computer is only 1.5 years old. I didn't play any games or download anything so it's not heavily used. But why the message then?
I don't really have a problem on my hands, but I would like to ask a few questions relating to Virtual Memory and Memory Leak.
I downloaded a game back in December, but hasn't been installed as yet. I heard that it is created using "C++" or "C" (whatever it is), and I learned that it has a memory leak. My Virtual Memory was running low (it may already have beforehand) by the time the game was installed. My computer crashed two days later as a result.
But some users haven't experienced any problems with the game. My question is, is it a better idea for me to install the game on a CD-ROM or USB Drive and play it from that media type (instead of from the hard drive) so that I can protect my PC from crashing due to low virtual memory?
virtual memory and memory usage i need to know how to know this 2 perfomances and if we need to otuch something to upgrade memory and best usage for your pc.
