Clicking Add/Remove Program Icon In Control Panel Doesn't Start The Program?
Jan 29, 2005I have been using Add/Remove icon in Control Panel to remove programs. Although the Win2k Pro is running fine ,the icon of Add/Remove Program is not opening the next window to remove the programs.

When I open Sounds and Audio Devices on the Control Panel and check the Place volume icon in the taskbar I get a window that says: Windows cannot display the volume control on the taskbar because the Volume Control Program has not been installed. To install it, use Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Where is the setup file. Is it a windows program or perhaps a Dell utility? XP Home SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop.

Aug 9, 2005we were using the computer last night all was normal (running very smoothe & fast) get up this morning and turn on the computer log into windows. come upto the desktop click in IE and nothing happens. so i look in the system tray and nothing but the clock is there. weird i think to myself. so i click on start and it doesnt come up, its liek the computers response tme is cut by 99.9%. finally after about 15 minutes start window pops up. i click on control panel (to get to admn tool >event viewer) and after i click on control panel the start window disappears adn nothing ever happens. i religiously run spyblaster , adaware , spybot search&destroy, registry mechanic , and check windows update everyday. i run panda for AV program and it is set to auto update.

Nov 19, 2007I've gone through and removed hundreds of viruses and cleaned it up pretty well. However, I can't access the CONTROL PANEL because it is missing from the START menu. I checked the start button properties, and it isn't listed in the customize/advanced menu. It's just not there. I'm fairly certain that I've gotten all the virus and spyware activity off the computer. I've now scanned it with 3 separate programs. I've tried booting into Safe Mode and Also logging on as Administrator (in safe mode), but it won't re-appear. I've even done the cmd: mmc / add/remove snap-in / add "groups" (as directed by another website) but "groups" isn't even listed. Come to think of it, it's not listed in this computer either (xp home).

There is an icon called Set Program Access and Defaults and when I click on it it tells me "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator". This is a private home computer, not on a system. Though I am a regular computer user I have few technical skills and may have entered an incorrect command.

Dec 7, 2007I use Windows XP. I have two problems using the Add/Remove function in my Control Panel: specifically I want to remove a program called "Creative Zen V Series (R2). The prompt after attempting to remove comes back with "The specific module could not be found" and leaves the program showing. I need to get rid of this entry. Secondly I want to remove "Calendar Creator 9" and when this is selected to remove, I get a prompt that says "To install the program it must first be removed using the Control Panel function Add/Remove. This is frustrating as that is exactly what I'm trying to do, NOT INSTALL the program again.

Feb 24, 2007In Windows XP, the Windows Explorer application is found under "start/programs/accessories". I clicked on the application listing there and dragged it on to my desktop. There is now an icon on the desktop for it, but it has disappeared from the apps listings in "start/programs/accessories". How can I restore the program listing there?

Jun 16, 2005freshly installed xp back onto my computer and after using the newly installed programs they still remain highlighted under the start list. not really a problem just annoying to see it all the time. anybody have a quick fix to this one
