Computer Freezing While Running High-graphics Applications?
May 29, 2005
I'm running a newly built system and am having an issue when running graphics-intensive programs, specifically a full system freeze. I don't believe I was having this problem at first, as I didn't notice anything unusual with a graphics-intensive game (Guild Wars) when the system was first up and running. Now, though, I can't run graphics intensive tasks without the system freezing. I updated a whole host of drivers in between, so I can't pinpoint a change or two that might've done it. System restore is acting a bit odd, telling me it can't restore to X point and no changes were made (but unfortunately offers no additional info on why).
my computer graphics started freezing and going distorted. and now some times my computer will only show a black screen when turned on . i bought a new graphics card and it will not work either and after that i tried my old graphics card that also stoped working in a few hours. all this started happening after i added 1 gb of ram but even without it my graphics cards are still not working. when the computer starts up some times there is all distorted sysmbols over the screen then everything goes fuzzy and the computer freezes or restarts. When the graphics do work as soon as it gets past the loading xp part the screen goes black and i cant get to the part to log on.
My computer has been hanging, freezing up completely, and generally driving me crazy. Web pages don't respond, they stay open for hours after I try to close them.
I am having a problem where everything seems to take up way more CPU usage than it used to. There is no application stealing processing power. Rather, when I start an application that would normally use a bit of CPU, it now spikes the CPU.In particular, 5 year old game called Neverwinter Nights is now unplayable and spikes up to 55% CPU usage on both cores even though it should only hit one core. The Earthsim program also does the same. So do other applications.
im running on windows xp but for the past week or so my computer has been running extremely slow constantly freezing and at least 3 times a day it restarts on its own and i desperately need it to work because its the only computer with a printer and i have alot of things that need to be typed as soon as possible please someone help me out
Downloaded what I thought what is an update... now my computer is freezing and running slow, denying access to programs.I have windows 2000 professional and a microsoft (or at least what I thought was a microsoft) update popped up. I went ahead and downloaded and that is when the problems started. Can anyone help? Did I download a virus?
About a week back I seem to have gotten a virus that tried to act like a windows firewall popup in an attempt to get me to download bogus software that would do bad things to my computer, well I didn't fall for it, but AVG didn't pikc the virus up right away. But after a day or two it did, and stoped it, but it also found a few other viruses hiding out in windows restore files. I'm actually not sure if this is related to my main problem, but it happened around the same time so I'm reporting it. Ok shortly after I got rid of those viruses my computer started freezing. But I'm not talking about a total lock up. Its kinda like a slow freeze.
I'm running XP on a computer with 1.3 gig CPU, 768MB RAM and 60 gig HD. My CPU usage is typically about 25-40%, but if I want to link to a video clip online and run it, CPU usage goes to 100% and the video won't run.I had a bad browser hijacker in May which took 10 days to fix with Tech guy help and me learning along the way, and a small problem in August, again fixed through advice from TechGuy, which I really appreciated. However, I have another teen living with us now, who says that my CPU usage should only be about 5%.Could someone help me decide what I layers of protection I can do without or how to configure all the anti-everything software I have that was recommended in May? I look forward to hearing back from someone.
When I run spybot or my antivirus my cpu goes to 100% and eventually overheats my laptop. I suspect I have a trojan/virus that's making the cpu run so high but I cannot scan my computer to find the culprit.
I HAVE HIGH SPEED INTERNET. MY COMPUTER HAS BEEN WORKING FINE, UNTIL TONIGHT. IT IS GOING ONLINE AND OPENING WEB PAGES SUPER SLOW. I HAVE FULL VIRUS PROTECTION, SO I KNOW IT'S NOT THOSE. I HAVE DELETED ANY LARGE, UNUSED PROGRAMS.
My computer has been chogging quite a bit lately after booting up and continues to run sluggish...I've noticed the explorer.exe in my task manager is running extremely high. It seems to start up about 5 minutes after booting up, and continues to wreak havoc. I've seen this to be a problem everywhere from an a hole virus to RAM not sitting correctly. I've ran Ad Aware, AVG and a few others to check for a virus or anykind of malicious spyware...everything has come back clean.
setup the new 19' LCD, re-staged XP on the desktop machine. Setup a nice wide screen desktop, remember selecting something in the CP about don't show the icon's and the rest is history. Menu wise all is fine, window apps work fine, ex. start -> run -> notepad, yet a start -> run -> will show the black window open, then disappear. Same with taskmgr, if you do 2ce, you get the taskmgr is already running yet you don't see it, nothing near the time, <ctrl>-<alt>-<del> shows nothing. I can however do a start -> run -> edit <enter> and get the edit screen. Somewhere there must be a setting to just say, desktop, stay behind! Even created a new user, logged in as that new user (default desktop, etc.) with the same results.
I am running Windows 2000. After doing a virus scan and quarantine I am getting the following message when I try to run certain programs, "C;WINNTSystem32Autoexec.nt.The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Windows Applications". I have seen some postings about this problem with Windows XP. Does anyone know what happened and how to fix it on Windows 2000?
My computer is acting up.. right after i finish starting up, before I even launch an application, the cursor will show a flickering hour glass (like it's processing something), however nothing is running. And when I do try to launch an application (something as simple as IE) it takes forever to load. I clicked "control-alt-delete" to see my task bar -- it shows no tasks being performed, but on the performance tab it shows CPU at 100%. I thought maybe I had a virus, so I did a scan using Trend Micro PC-cillin, but no viruses were detected.
my problem: a c++ program that i was running has suddenly stopped running correctly - i am taking a series of 4 shots using a logitech pro 3000, used to be between the shots you could see yourself on the monitor - now you can only see yourself before the 1st shot. where, what can i look at to correct this? is there someway/where to control the background color of the monitor - or would this be written into the program? i have done a re-install of the program to no avail. any ideas, gui stuff?, gdi stuff? the system i am using is as follows: thinkpad 600X. 500mgh pentium III, hitachi 12gb hd (8gb free), 128 ram, windows XP-sp1, neo-magic magicgraph 256 video card
My main pc is running XP mostly, and has started locking up while using different applications. I have watched it with Task Manager and Process Explorer and I don't see anything out of the ordinary running. So far I have watched Ad-Aware SE, Spybot Search & Destroy, Nod32 and Sonicstage omg. lock up while in use. Is there some way to set up a log file that will tell me what is happening when XP locks up. I would like to have more info on the reason for the problem.I can reinstall but I would really like to understand what is going on. This has never happened to me before.
i try to install a program and i keep getting the message. "C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable fo rrunning MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." What can i do to install this program?
I completely reformatted my HD and reinstalled windows. I added the drivers and just a couple of aps. Now my computer is SO slow. Aps take a good 30 seconds to open as do web pages. There is the odd time where something will open quickly (seems random) but not too often. I ran Hijack this, spybot and adaware and found nothing nothing to find.
This has happened two days in a row now. I log into my account, then when it gets to my desktop, all it shows is my desktop background picture. There are no applications running and there are no startup icons that I can click on. I have to force a restart on my laptop, and then when it starts up again everything is there.
I have the same problem with some programs that I want to install in my pc. I receive this problem error message:C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32AUTOEXEC.NT the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose Close to terminate the operation. There are several softwares that I would like to install on my pc but I cant because of this error One is a game, the other one is a program I need ot make programs and the last one is a typing software. Is there a way that I can install them on my pc?
A few days ago, someone apparently hacked into my wife's Yahoo email account and sent out a bunch of bogus emails to people in her address book, including myself. The email contained a link. Since she sometimes sends me stuff to check out, I made the supreme mistake of clicking on it. It took me to some pharmaceutical site and I knew it was bogus and clicked out immediately. But the damage seems to have been done.
my graphics card is old and slow and i was lookin to but a new one What would u reccomend in the 100$ price range that is fast I have a 2002 windows xp P4 processor 1.50 Ghz and 256 MB of ram, 40.0 Gb, Nvidia TnT2 graphics card
I have a laptop operating on Windows XP. Recently my computer has become extremely slow. I have gone into task manager and noticed that the CPU usage is quite high, even when there is very little running. At times the system idle will hover in the 90% range, however the CPU usage will also stay in the same range. (As far as I know, if idle is at 90%, than CPU usage should not be higher than 10%). I can't figure out what else is running that is making the CPU usage run so high. I have run various virus and spyware tests and all have come out clean. I have used cc cleaner to clean my registry and even update some of my out of date drivers but the problem has continued.
I have a Windows XP Pro computer running with a 2.8GHz processor with a Nvidia GeForce Fx 5500 graphics card and 512RAM. However, when I'm in the middle of a "graphics-demanding" game (like warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne), the whole computer will totally freeze. It doesn't just hang or lag but the screen freezes and i have the restart the computer using the reset button. That's not the worst of it. When the computer has rebooted it will freeze from anytime as soon as the desktop begins to load to when the desktop has already loaded. The computer will only start up normally if i just shut it off and turn it on the next day.Oh and the computer can reboot to safe mode or start up to safe mode with no problem at all.
I am looking to purchase a new graphics card. I am looking more for a gaming card. My computer has the following properties: 3.0GHz P4 2.0 Gigs Crucial Ram (DDR PC3200, CL=3, UNBUFFERED, NON- ECC, DDR400, 2.6V, 128Meg x 64)MSI MS-6788 (865PE NEO2-V) Window XP Pro
I built a new computur and now that its up and running I'd like to get some of the apps from my old computer on to the new computer. Trouble is some of the install disks have been lost/misplaced since the old computer was 6 years old. I saw with XP you can transfer the contents of an old HD to a XP setup but it seems to suggest that you do this while you are installing XP not afterwards. Is it possible to transfer these applications to the new computer?
This system, for whatever reason, is having some weird issues. 1. Applications keep shutting down 2. The computer randomly shuts off 3. Computer screen will go black, and the cursor will turn into a larger cursor like the cursor looks like when it is in safe mode, and I won't even be able to move the cursor; the fans also started kicking in when it did this as if it were starting to work really hard (only did this once).I've scanned for viruses and spyware. It was relatively clean. Then I did a sfc /scannow. Seemed to work for a while, but now it's acting weird again.
In recent weeks the computer screen keeps freezing with the cursor being replaced by the hour glass symbol. This usually happens after several hours computer usage - but sometimes it occurs soon after the computer is turned on.When this happens, I am unable to log off; the computer on/off button does not work when the screen freezes and I have to turn the computer off at the mains. In order to be able to log back into my broadband internet connection I have to turn the computer and and off twice and then on again Sometimes when the computer screen image freezes a message box appears always saying "End programme" (i.e. "End programme - CiceroUIWndFrame" or "End programme - mixer").
All of the sudden yesterday my computer just decided to start running very slowly. Nothing really changed with the exception of me installing the new Java update that my computer told me it needed. Now, at all times, all the items in my task manager use a huge amount of memory and I am completely unable to multitask. Right now, Firefox is using 180,000K of memory and this is the only website I have up, as well as the only program that I am running. Neither Firefox or IE ever used to use this much memory. I have included a screenshot of the task manager from when I first restarted my computer today. I have restarted, defragged, cleaned up the disk, everything. My specs are as follows: Dell Laptop, Intel Celeron M Processor 1.40 Ghz, 504mb of RAM, 80gb hard drive (hard drive is brand new).
Even when Firefox or IE is the only thing running, some websites bog the entire computer down and it stalls for minutes without moving. Then, all of the sudden, it catches up with itself and does everything I tried to do while it was frozen. I know I don't have a lot of RAM and it isn't the newest and fastest system out there, but the sudden onset of this makes me think that my computer isn't just outdated, something changed in the system. Can anyone tell me what is going on here? How can I stop all these applications from using so much memory and be able to multitask and stream online media again?
amezivhqg.exe virus has slowed down my applications and i have not been able to access the internet. But i restored my system and i have been able to access the net. Please advise on what to do now so that it does not affect my comp in the future.
