Then it takes forever for IE to load. Do I have spyware on my computer again????

T: Removable drive "HP Printer D7160"
Every now and then the F & T drives will switch drive letters when this happens I cannot get into the F drive. Is there some way I can get into a built in program and change drive letters??

I cant change my background like I should normally be able to. I can't right click on a jpg and set it as background and it wont detect any of the wallpapers i have in my pictures folder like it used to. The only wallpapers it will use are the default windows wallpapers or anything i set to wallpaper by right clicking on an image online. As for my other problem, I can't get files to open with the correct program. I know i can set a file type to always open with a certain prgram, but that isnt working. Example: I have a .max file which should open in 3ds max. Instead it opens in nothing and stay a blank file with no icon. I can still open it by opening up the program and opening it from there, but it's annoying. My winamp play lists also all seem to want to open in windows media player no matter how many time i tell them to always open in winamp.
I've noticed another problem after restarting that I don't normally have. When I log in i get this Preparing to Install. Please wait while windows find 'new copy' ERROR 1706. No valid source could be found for this product NewCopy. The windows installer can not continue.(I press ok)....

I recently downloaded and ran Spybot 1.5.1 and found that the program was trying to change my "HOSTS" file (C:windowssystem 32driversetchosts). Should I go along with this change, and if so, what is about to change? If not, how do I stop the program from continuing to try to make this change?

I downloaded a program from Ebay and after installing it I noticed it didn't have a uninstall. I used my add & remove program to uninstall the program but not all of it got uninstalled. I deleted the folder and then did a search in my registry for anything with refernce to the programs name "Ebay's Blackthorne" and deleted all entries with that name.Every time I reboot windows tries to install something for Blackthorne and I have to keep cancelling it out.

Then I tried right clicking on a folder/file, selecting "Properties", pushing the "Advanced" button,I then checked "Compress contents to save disk space",and the folder and its contents turned blue but the size of the files,seeming, hadn't changed. Have the files actually been compressed? Should I get an external ZIP program? If so can you recommend a program?

This was fine except the username he has at work and the email address he has is pjsmith.now he would like to have his laptop signon as pjsmith rather than jsmith.I would like to simply create the user new (pjsmith), copy the old (jsmith) profile to the new (pjsmith) profile and then delete the old (jsmith). I have tested this on another machine and it doesn't work so well.

I know I'll end up with tons and tons of folders in program files. Beyond that, I can't access program files from the other computers on the network. Is there a good way to reorganize/move files to my C drive in a way that would be efficient and wouldn't require reinstalling every single program in a different place?

I have looked at process manager and I see the one processor is running flat out and the task manager graph says my system is running at approx 50%. Then when i look at the Process list it appears that System Idle Process is using around 99 to 95% of CPU time. There are no other processes listed using significant processing resources. So what is causing my one processor to run at full speed without being visible in Task manager?

View 7 Replies View Relatedi have a compaq presario sr1620nx with windows xp. one day the computer worked fine and the next it does not. the problem: on start up the computer does not progress past the "Compaq" screen. there are no lights on the keyboard so pressing F8 or F10 or ESC does not do anything. Everything is hooked up properly so it is not a power problem.

View 2 Replies View Relatediv'e been searching around for 30 minutes of what the problem could be but i have not found anything. iv'e been looking through msconfig startups and there is nothing wierd there, iv'e also been looking up my programs through ad or remove program if there is some random programs that is installed on my computer and i didn't find anything. When i open my task manager it is System Idle Process that is jumping around between 48-61 cpu usage, i don't know what SIP is for or what it do, so it would be nice if someone could tell me little about SIP and give me some tips over how to solve this problem with the cpu usage. I also found out that rundll32.exe is using about the same cpu usage as SIP 50-55 what is rundll32.exe?

"Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)"
I wanted to install xp over my 2000, and so i loaded everything up installed everything and then got to the partition selection. It would not let me delete C: because it said there were files that were needed for the setup, arent they supposed to be on the disk? So it couldnt delete, but i continued and installed it on that partition (C: ) thinking that after words it will ask me to format. IT didnt.. and i now have 2000 and XP installed and i dont wanna multiboot. I tried going run the format c:, but it wouldnt let me heres wat it said: Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first.
