View 3 Replies View RelatedMinutes ago I attempted to copy my HDD to another HDD. And I got this message: "Could not copy the file NxFsMon." It IS an XP system driver. Now, I don't know for a fact that this file is corrupt. But let's assume that it is. In which case deleting it and replacing it would, one would think, be a logical approach to the problem. (I fear such an assumption does not always apply in dealing with computers.). Assuming, of course, the file is on the CD. But it's in System32, so would that not be a fair assumption? If the file is corrupt, then there's an XP Repair install or a clean install option. But tell me, could not a copy of the file be taken from the XP CD and used to replace the same file on the HDD. It would seem a quick and much easier solutionthan a repair or clean install.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm running XP Pro SP3 and have recently encountered a problem whereby both the mouse and the keyboard freeze the first time that the keyboard is used. (The system still seems to be running because it performs a normal shutdown when I hit the power button.) Googling suggested uninstalling the keyboard from device manager and then letting it reinstall; however, the add new hardware wizard fails saying that the device driver is corrupt or missing. How do I reinstall the keyboard drivers from the XP Pro CD? I've tried letting the hardware wizard search the cd drive, but it doesn't find anything.I think I had the same problem on my notebook, but I only solved it by reverting to an old Ghost image, because having to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to log on meant I couldn't even access the system with the mouse.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just boot up my computer and a black screen (which i've seen before and has only led to re-install XP) came up saying the following file is missing or corrupt: /system/ntfs32(I don't recall the exact file name - next time I will write it down). But i'm sure many have experience with this. Now somehow I was still able to enter Windows after reboot and F8 (never happened before - i've always had to re-install). What can I do NOW to prevent this next time from happening and perhaps (almost certain actually) having to re-install Windows XP? Can I get that file from somwhere? Am I missing a service Pack? I have SP2 for Windows XP Professional version 2002. (I double checked My Computer>Properties).

I shut it off when I am done to save power, and just the other day I notice a file on it that is quite large isn't allowing me to open it any longer. It keeps saying that the 'file or folder is corrupt and unreadable'...Weird. I was just looking at the folder yesterday. Is there absolutely anything I can do to get that data back?? All the other files on that hard drive are fine. Why did it target out that file?

I need to do a clean install of Windows XP on a system that previously ran Windows 2000. I deleted the partition via the Windows Install/Setup menu, but when the PC boots, it lists Windows 2K as one of the startup/OS options. I need to be able to do an /fdisk on the whole drive and start from scratch. Unfortunately, I only have a basic Windows XP installation CD - and if there's a way to get to a prompt and do it from there, I can't remember. Could anyone direct me to a bootable CD that will allow me to /fdisk and delete and create partitions? I need something quick and fast. I'm not permitted to download or install anything without permission and my boss is out of town until Thursday. He may call in tomorrow (or he may not). So please, don't point me to Bart's PE or anything that requires installing an .ISO burner. I need to be able to do this with the tools that Windows XP, SP 2 native. These are laptops I'm working with and they do not have floppy drives, so I cannot use floppy disks.

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anybody know if its possible to slipstream IE7 into and SP2 into an XP bootable CD. I suspect the genuine advantage download will make it not possible but I know its possible to install IE7 without Genuine Advantage installed. Its a lengthy workaround so figure slipstreaming impossible. I have a slipstream SP2 XP cd but it would be really useful if I could get IE7 on there as well. Don't even know if IE7 can be slipstreamed.
View 6 Replies View Relatedhave a problem with trying to format my HD and start over. Problem is I don't have an actual boot disc, as my original PC started as an OEM, but have since replaced everything, even the Mother Board. I have the key still, but need an OEM windows xp home bootable disc so I can properly format my drive. I've searched and can't find anything online. I'm also restricted to making a cd only, as I'm using my laptop so Microsoft's suggestion of using floppies is not possible for me. Can anyone link me somewhere that I can download an ISO file, or anything I need to use so that I can get my computer back up and running? I appreciate anyone's help in this matter.
