Can I actually get the start up files from the windwos xp cd that I want to use for isntallation? I know where to get it from the microsoft website but I want to actually get the files fromt he cd. Anyone know the location on the cd?

I have no trouble downloading the pictures to the floppies. The XP system does have a floppy drive. Step by step how do I load the pictures into the XP system? As a new member this is my first time to contact you. Sure hope I have followed all the rules.

around 6 months ago..my friend told me a way to extract the boot file from the disc n copy it using nero to make a bootable sp3 cd. i had one but i lost it.and now i dont remember how to do it again.
I have a 3 year old Compaq Evo n1015v which has recently stopped booting up. I was installing a mouse driver and it simply rebooted whilst it was doing it, now it gets to the Windows loading screen and cuts out with a blue screen of death, then reattempts booting up. If I try loading it up in safe mode it lists the .dlls it's loading then cuts out and reboots after vax347b.sys (for Alcohol 120% I believe). Nothing such as selecting the 'last known good configuration' option works, this includes safe mode and all of that. In addition my cd drive will only read dvds and not cds for some reason, so using my XP cd is out of the question. Basically the last resort seems to be the XP boot floppies, but that gets to disk 3 and cuts out when loading up the 'kernel debugger'. So I'm out of ideas! Wiping the HD is also not an option as there is really important stuff on there including uni work that I can't afford to lose.
Has anyone had similar problems with the boot disks, or does anyone else have any ideas? It has been suggested on other forums to burn a copy of XP to dvd, but I don't think I know anyone with a dvd burner (not to mention the fact that I have no idea how to get a burnable copy of XP). The recovery console would help to get rid of the driver I think is causing the problem, and to run chkdsk, but I'm struggling to work out how I'm going to get to it. Basically if anyone has any tips at all I'd be delighted!
I need to do a clean install of Windows XP on a system that previously ran Windows 2000. I deleted the partition via the Windows Install/Setup menu, but when the PC boots, it lists Windows 2K as one of the startup/OS options. I need to be able to do an /fdisk on the whole drive and start from scratch. Unfortunately, I only have a basic Windows XP installation CD - and if there's a way to get to a prompt and do it from there, I can't remember. Could anyone direct me to a bootable CD that will allow me to /fdisk and delete and create partitions? I need something quick and fast. I'm not permitted to download or install anything without permission and my boss is out of town until Thursday. He may call in tomorrow (or he may not). So please, don't point me to Bart's PE or anything that requires installing an .ISO burner. I need to be able to do this with the tools that Windows XP, SP 2 native.These are laptops I'm working with and they do not have floppy drives, so I cannot use floppy disks.

I suspect the genuine advantage download will make it not possible but I know its possible to install IE7 without Genuine Advantage installed. Its a lengthy workaround so figure slipstreaming impossible. I have a slipstream SP2 XP cd but it would be really useful if I could get IE7 on there as well. Don't even know if IE7 can be slipstreamed.

Problem is I don't have an actual boot disc, as my original PC started as an OEM, but have since replaced everything, even the Mother Board. I have the key still, but need an OEM windows xp home bootable disc so I can properly format my drive. I've searched and can't find anything online. I'm also restricted to making a cd only, as I'm using my laptop so Microsoft's suggestion of using floppies is not possible for me. View 14 Replies View RelatedIm trying to run windows xp on the sata drive,I have installed xp via bootable disk, but when attempting to load xp a blue screen pops up and says "windows was stopped from loading to prevent damage to your system" and then following an error number with lots of zeroes and threes. I have plugged the SATA drive into another computer and was able to format, partition and add and use files from it. So theres a 70% chance its not the hardrive itself.

The problem is in burning the CD.I'm using Nero 7 Ultra. Also, I wished to create a ERD but I have no floppy drive. Info I have found tells me to use regedt.32 (or regedit) but info on how to create, store, restore this is confusing (involves either a long bat file or refers to how to restore from within? a domain). All I wish to do is to have the cd equivilent of the ERD floppy that I can insert when asked to do so from the W2K cd. If this is not possible, I would like to know how to accomplish this using another method.

Isn't a XP CD needed to load uninstalled XP features plus to insert at various times when prompted? Also, can a bootable CD be purchased? If both are purchased at retail, would they be compatible with the installed version of XP Home and with the keycode differences? To be prepared for maintenance, what is needed to support XP Home?
