Replacing A Corrupt Driver From CD
Nov 11, 2006
Minutes ago I attempted to copy my HDD to another HDD. And I got this message: "Could not copy the file NxFsMon." It IS an XP system driver. Now, I don't know for a fact that this file is corrupt. But let's assume that it is. In which case deleting it and replacing it would, one would think, be a logical approach to the problem. (I fear such an assumption does not always apply in dealing with computers.). Assuming, of course, the file is on the CD. But it's in System32, so would that not be a fair assumption? If the file is corrupt, then there's an XP Repair install or a clean install option. But tell me, could not a copy of the file be taken from the XP CD and used to replace the same file on the HDD. It would seem a quick and much easier solutionthan a repair or clean install.

A firend of mine (yes really) tried to fit some extra memory to an old computer. It seems it was incompatible 'cos it didn't boot.Apparently it hasn't booted since either - despite replacing with original memory! The computer always says ' windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : system 32driverspcisys'. ( or to that effect - it's what he wrote down). He has the winxp installation disc. Can someone advise in reasonable detail how to remedy the problem without a reinstall

I'm running XP Pro SP3 and have recently encountered a problem whereby both the mouse and the keyboard freeze the first time that the keyboard is used. (The system still seems to be running because it performs a normal shutdown when I hit the power button.) Googling suggested uninstalling the keyboard from device manager and then letting it reinstall; however, the add new hardware wizard fails saying that the device driver is corrupt or missing. How do I reinstall the keyboard drivers from the XP Pro CD? I've tried letting the hardware wizard search the cd drive, but it doesn't find anything.I think I had the same problem on my notebook, but I only solved it by reverting to an old Ghost image, because having to press Ctrl-Alt-Del to log on meant I couldn't even access the system with the mouse.

I just boot up my computer and a black screen (which i've seen before and has only led to re-install XP) came up saying the following file is missing or corrupt: /system/ntfs32(I don't recall the exact file name - next time I will write it down). But i'm sure many have experience with this. Now somehow I was still able to enter Windows after reboot and F8 (never happened before - i've always had to re-install). What can I do NOW to prevent this next time from happening and perhaps (almost certain actually) having to re-install Windows XP? Can I get that file from somwhere? Am I missing a service Pack? I have SP2 for Windows XP Professional version 2002. (I double checked My Computer>Properties).

I have a usb external enclosure which holds a 120 gig hard drive that I use for storage. I shut it off when I am done to save power, and just the other day I notice a file on it that is quite large isn't allowing me to open it any longer. It keeps saying that the 'file or folder is corrupt and unreadable'...Weird. I was just looking at the folder yesterday. Is there absolutely anything I can do to get that data back?? All the other files on that hard drive are fine. Why did it target out that file?

i have a computer running a polish version of windows when i boot in normal and safe mode the error comes up about a corrupt shell32.dll and that reinstalling the app may help the problem.i tried to boot up with winternals erd commander to fix file systems but an error occurred with a blue screen complaining about the same shell32.dll.i booted off a windows 98 cd to dos.but it cant see the ntfs partition and on top of it i read that xp has an encryption key for files in the windows directory and it gave a fix...but in order for the fix to work you had to be able to get into windows.so obviously this doesnt help me.what are my options.what would you do.

I have a Dell and my keyboard is in pretty bad shape. Some keys are sticky and the key covers (not sure what they are called) are missing making it difficult to type. Are there refurbished ones that would work? Is changing out a keyboard a hard thing to do? Will a generic keyboard work or would it have to be a Dell?

I have a desktop PC with Windows XP.Have had problems with Blue Screen of Death and have run a diagnostics test on the hard drive (as suggested in a forum) which shows the hard drive is on its way out.I have a replacement hard drive, but before I start doing anything (I am pretty much a complete beginner compared to everyone else out there) - could anyone recommend any guides/tutorials on the internet which explains in simple and comprehensive terms, the best way to replace a hard drive and reinstall windows. I have spent some time googling, but not found anything yet.

Sometimes it will say an ACPI.sys error, or a Bad Pool Caller, etc.I've done some looking and it seems it's a bad driver (well, other posts say that). How do you go about finding which driver it is? There's gotta be 100s of them.....

Since removing the shipped HP HDD from my PC and replacing it with a 3rd party fresh one, I am concerned about how I will now go about recovering my PC. When Windows had problems in the past, I could simply press F10 on startup and there was a diagnostic section which allowed me to reformat in an either destructive or non-destructive way. What happens if my computer doesn't start up nowadays? As in, the Windows Loading logo screen appears and then the monitor goes black and stays black.. Is there any software or method to allow me to have some sort of management over this? Sorry if I have not been able to correctly ask my question.. Kinda hard.

I have a problem with an application starting to load and then a message coming up stating that there was a problem with the "ntdll.dll" file.
I even located a copy to download, placed that in the WindowsSystem32 folder and each time I continue to attempt to launch this application, it partially starts up, then hangs and then gives me the error message.
Is there something I am not doing correctly? Any suggestions? It had been working just fine for the past year or so and about a month ago, BOOM, this error message came up.

it all started when i went on my second partition which had windows vista beta 2 installed on it, well, i started fooling around and i messed something up, so, i went back into my partition 1 which had windows xp pro on it, so i went into a program on my computer called partition manager, and i deleted partition number 2, or i think i just formatted it again, not really sure, but, then i started downloading the vista beta again cuz i needed to reinstall, so then after the download finished, i restarted the computer and came across an error, windows boot manager wasnt allowing me to go into my first or 2nd partition, when i tried to go on my first partition with winxp pro, it said that ntldr.exe was corrupt, and when i tried on my 2nd, the one i supposedly formatted or deleted, it said boomgr.exe is corrupt, so what i did was installed windows xp 64 bit edition, but i am having problems booting into that as well because my monitor is blank and all it says is output signal out of range change to 1280 x 1024, so im running 64 bit edition in safe mode right now, but what i need help is booting into my winxp pro partition
