I am having trouble with my Philips Freevents X55P.I turned it on this morning and found that every key with a button that can be replaced by an 'Fn'shortcut comes up instead of the normal letter.For example:'-' comes up instead of 'p'.'0' comes up instead of 'm'.
View 1 RepliesI have a Dell and my keyboard is in pretty bad shape. Some keys are sticky and the key covers (not sure what they are called) are missing making it difficult to type. Are there refurbished ones that would work? Is changing out a keyboard a hard thing to do? Will a generic keyboard work or would it have to be a Dell?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install Windows XP as a second OS as I already have Windows 7 Ultimate installed. Unfortunately, after I select a partition, format it, and reboot the system stalls on the screen after the BIOS that has something to do with a list of devices and such. After 10 or so seconds a few characters and letters go blank randomly on the page. I rebooted and selected my cd drive as the boot device and accidentally didn't press a button in time to boot and a bunch of highlighted numbers were thrown all over the screen and a random smiley face on one of the lines.

1.The mouse scroll wheel works sometimes when surfing on internet , but most of the time it does not. It works fine when typing in Word.
2.The mouse pointer jumps around randomly.
3.The left mouse button sometimes behaves as if it is the right button.
4.Sometimes the computer seems to freeze and will not respond to mouse commands. This can be “reset” by ctrl+alt+delete, and choosing “switch to” the program I was working in. This can happen even when only one program is running.
5.Sometimes the mouse seems to left-click and drag by itself.
6.The keyboard sometimes misses letters that I press
I was in the middle of typing and suddenly none of the keys work properly. Most of them won't type anything and the rest are jumbled. "c" will print "-", n will be 7, ";" will be the "page up" key etc.I've reinstalled the keyboard drivers but no success. language/region settings are US as always. no idea why it's suddenly scrambled. keyboard is microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard 1.0A. batteries are fine. XP system.Please help. this is really causing a ton of trouble. I'm using software kboard to type this.

View 23 Replies View Relatedi have a computer running a polish version of windows when i boot in normal and safe mode the error comes up about a corrupt shell32.dll and that reinstalling the app may help the problem.i tried to boot up with winternals erd commander to fix file systems but an error occurred with a blue screen complaining about the same shell32.dll.i booted off a windows 98 cd to dos.but it cant see the ntfs partition and on top of it i read that xp has an encryption key for files in the windows directory and it gave a fix...but in order for the fix to work you had to be able to get into windows.so obviously this doesnt help me.what are my options.what would you do.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMinutes ago I attempted to copy my HDD to another HDD. And I got this message: "Could not copy the file NxFsMon." It IS an XP system driver.Now, I don't know for a fact that this file is corrupt. But let's assume that it is. In which case deleting it and replacing it would, one would think, be a logical approach to the problem. (I fear such an assumption does not always apply in dealing with computers.). Assuming, of course, the file is on the CD. But it's in System32, so would that not be a fair assumption?If the file is corrupt, then there's an XP Repair install or a clean install option. But tell me, could not a copy of the file be taken from the XP CD and used to replace the same file on the HDD. It would seem a quick and much easier solutionthan a repair or clean install.

I have tried usb, ps2 everything. The keyboard works on bootup, so I can get into bios etc... but when it gets to the windows screen, nothing. No mouse or keyboard. Safe mode is the same thing. Dont want to format and reinstall windows. On that note, I did try a repair, when it asks for admin password it wont accept it. Says invalid admin password.. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.

When Windows had problems in the past, I could simply press F10 on startup and there was a diagnostic section which allowed me to reformat in an either destructive or non-destructive way. What happens if my computer doesn't start up nowadays? As in, the Windows Loading logo screen appears and then the monitor goes black and stays black.. Is there any software or method to allow me to have some sort of management over this? Sorry if I have not been able to correctly ask my question.. Kinda hard.

I don't exactly know where to put this thread, so if a mod feels the need to move this, go ahead. I am using Windows XP, though.Anyway, my friend let me have his old headset a few months ago, and it, basically, isn't working very well. For some reason, some days it works decently, and others not at all. I've found out that for the times it does work, I need to have the mic right up to my lips, and even then my friends have a hard time hearing me. My headset is always turned on, and I have the sensitivity all the way up. It's one of those headsets where two jacks come out the end, one a headphone and another a microphone jack. They are both firmly stuck into my motherboard.

I downloaded setup onto six floppies and they all install fine but when it is time to put in DVD it says something along the lines "you have a faulty cd".I checked it out on another computer and the XP Pro seems to be on it alright but how do I get it to boot.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had windows 2000 pro. I wanted to do a full format and completely wipe my hard disk, and install windows xp pro. I did it wrong though, and when my comp was on and i was on windows 2000 desktop, I inserted the windows xp cd and chose a new installation. Windows XP installed, however since I did it wrong and did not format, I now have both XP and 2000 on my hard drive. I tried to fix this problem by going into my BIOS and changing the boot order. Currently it is set to boot 1st from my cd rom. However, when I turn it on, it begins to start up, and says hit any key to boot from cd, but when I hit a key it just continues to load windows. the next screen asks me to chose an OS or press F8 to go into advanced setup. However, again it does not let me give it a command to change the highlighted OS, or go into F8. I can still go into my BIOS, and once windows loads up, my key board works fine, but for whatever reason when windows is starting it seems like it's not communicating with my keyboard. I do not have an A drive so I can not boot from there. I tried to reformat within windows, but since I'm asking it to reformat the drive I am already using, it will not do that. All I want to do is format my harddrive and wipe all OS's off and all info, then install XP. Can I do this without A drive, or without it recongizing when I hit a key to boot from cdrom.
