Keyboard Trouble - 'Fn' Key Replacing Letters?
Aug 27, 2009I am having trouble with my Philips Freevents X55P.I turned it on this morning and found that every key with a button that can be replaced by an 'Fn'shortcut comes up instead of the normal letter.For example:'-' comes up instead of 'p'.'0' comes up instead of 'm'.

Oct 31, 2009My mouse and keyboard has both started to behave strange.
1.The mouse scroll wheel works sometimes when surfing on internet , but most of the time it does not. It works fine when typing in Word.
2.The mouse pointer jumps around randomly.
3.The left mouse button sometimes behaves as if it is the right button.
4.Sometimes the computer seems to freeze and will not respond to mouse commands. This can be “reset” by ctrl+alt+delete, and choosing “switch to” the program I was working in. This can happen even when only one program is running.
5.Sometimes the mouse seems to left-click and drag by itself.
6.The keyboard sometimes misses letters that I press

Jun 14, 2006I was in the middle of typing and suddenly none of the keys work properly. Most of them won't type anything and the rest are jumbled. "c" will print "-", n will be 7, ";" will be the "page up" key etc.I've reinstalled the keyboard drivers but no success. language/region settings are US as always. no idea why it's suddenly scrambled. keyboard is microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard 1.0A. batteries are fine. XP system.Please help. this is really causing a ton of trouble. I'm using software kboard to type this.

abcdefgh51230n6pqrst4vwxyz, i can type the correct letters by holding down the 'fn' key, as i am doing now. and if i hold down the 'fn' and 'shift' i get this
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPRSTUVWXYZ this all aooctter when i was trying to write a letter to someone in germany and wanted to tyoe the char of the 'umlaut'. i thought i could set the language to german, then switch back.

Jul 4, 2005I have a 3-computer home workgroup that connects to the internet via a Netgear router. I have a Lexmark X74-75 printer/scanner/copier that is connect to one of those computers, and that computer is connected directly to the router. The other two computers print to the Lexmark via sharing. This setup has been working without issue for about 2 years, but in the past week, everything seems to have gone to hell, including the ability to print. This description may be a little long,but I have to be everything I am about to relate is somehow connected.I will do my best to also advise what I have installed, removed, etc., during that period.

Starting this week, (maybe-- maybe after I downloaded the new security updates) my printer does not print when I command it to. It just freezes, until I restart the computer. When I get the cntl-alt-delete prompt, then the printer kicks in and prints what I commanded. I don't even need to log on.

Sep 19, 2005The special icon for "My Pictures" is gone and access to these files is compromised (they are there, but don't work like they should). Unable to run iTunes, a problem which started at the same time. The iTunes error originally request chdisk, which I did, problem persisted. Installed new iTunes version and did System Restore to one day prior to problem. Now iTunes simply crashes when I attempt to start it. I tried running the Desktop.ini reset command, no change due to that either. I am running XP Home with multiple users.

May 4, 2005When i boot my windows xp home edition machine, the normal login screen appears, but not all of the users and their icons show up One user and the guest user doesn't display...it is also in a lower resolution, so that may be why the other users don't show up, because there isn't enough room. Even when i click on my user, the first one listed, nothing happens. It doesn't log on, so I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice to get the alternative login screen to appear...and then when i click OK for my user, it logs in. I would like to have it back to the original state of the first login screen...and not have to go through the steps of the other screen. Has anybody ever experienced this before?

Jan 26, 2005I just replaced a power supply on a Windows XP computer and when it boots up, the os loads just fine, the startup programs begin to load and during this the display settings automatically change from 800x600 32-bit color to 640x480 8-bit color. Jun 3, 2008i have a skull trail board, daul Extreme 3.2 Ghz LGA 711 quad core processors, 8 gb of DDR2 ECC ram and Nvidia Quadra 4000 series video card, and 1200 watt tough power power supply, 160 gb Wetern Digital raptor drive and 2 500gb Seagate Barracudas for storage and it runs xp 64 pro. The machine runs fine for 24 hours then i get a hardware malfunction error on the screen, the bios is the latest, the drivers are the latest, the tempratue never gets above 97 F in the case the processors never reach more then 95 F, yet the system still seems to crash there are no dump logs created, I ran every test i can think of on the hardware removed every peice of ram and tried each one by itself for 24 hours, have swapped out the video card, for diffrent brands, disconnected the extra drives, i'm at a lost so lets hear it HIT ME WITH SOME NEW IDEAS please i got just about 6k invested in this beast and it's killing me to find it blue screen once a day

Feb 18, 2006Alrite, my friend re-formatted his computer, and afterwards, he is having problems. It seems to start up fine, and it gets to both screens where it says, "Windows 2000 is starting up," and on the second one, it seems to get done then it goes to a blue screen for a very split second, and restarts automatically, and does this, Over and over. It doesn't make it to the desktop. He hooks up a different hard drive to it and it works fine.. It is also windows 2000. Its windows 2000 Service Pack 3.

May 10, 2008I just finished assembling my new build. It boots and I can get to the BIOS. I even have it booting from the DVD drive so I can load Win XP.However, when I get to the Windows Setup and it asks me if I want to setup windows(press enter), Repair(some other key), quit(F3) my keyboard won't work. I hit "Enter" because I want to install XP and nothing happens. It is not responding to my keyboard strokes.
This is strange because the keyboard works in the BIOS.
Printer - Appears In The Print Queue As "printing" But Never Prints
May 22, 2006I have a dell 2400 series PC running XP home edition. My Dell A920 printer stopped working. When I uninstalled and tried to reinstall it, I couldn't get it to reinstall properly. I used the original CD and I also downloaded a driver from dell.com. Neither worked. I tried to install a new Samsung ML-2010 printer. I used the included CD. It finished the install and when I tried to print the test page, it wouldn't print. It appears in the print queue as "printing" but never prints. When I reboot, I see a message on the system tray saying new hardware detected, there was trouble on the install and new device may not work correctly. I tried to do a repair from the enclosed Samsung CD but it didn't fix the problem. When it tried to print the test page, it said "not responding" in the blue bar across the top of the page

When it locks it also makes whatever sound it had when it locks. Is there a way to see what is causing the lock? I’ve tried the troubleshooting FAQ on the software and got nowhere. When it locks it locks I’ve found no way to continue other then killing the power to the motherboard and restarting. There is no rhyme or reason to the lock no common timing or software or hardware. This is the second tine sending this, It locked last time.

Nov 18, 2007I'm having some real issues with my Dell XPS 400 and I'm desperately seeking help. I'm running WinXP Pro and this pc is only about 16 months old. It has the original factory installed ram (1 gig) a 320 gig hard drive and the processor is an Intel ViiV. I have been getting a blue error screen with Hardware Malfunction Call your Hardware Vendor for Support Parity Check Memory Parity Error System was halted that lasted for a few hours. I had to hold the power button in for several seconds each time to shut it down. I ran both the Microsoft Windows Memory Diagnostic tests, as well as the Memtest 86,each several times. The results were always "no memory errors". I attempted a few times, unsucessfully, using the F11 key to reach the Acronis recovery partition. I booted using my XP disk but was unable to re-install. Windows would begin to load and then the blue screen with the same error message would occur. Finally, I was able to access the Acronis recovery manager and restore my pc but on reboot it began to run ChkDsk. Now it keeps rebooting and running a new disk check over and over and over.I have tried to cancel the ChkDsk using the keyboard but it keeps running. I'm at a loss, as to what else, if anything I can do, (besides ripping my hair out by the roots)
