Jan 12, 2006I have a problem upgrading 2000 to xp, after all i've done.after the installation and when he is booting there is blue screen. he says Check if there is a viruses or runscandisk on it.
Virus Caused Bluescreen Desktop
Jul 18, 2005A virus I had caused a bluescreen desktop and Norton found the virus but couldn't do anything about it, so I deleted it myself. After that the screen was gray. I went to properties and all it showed was the path to where the image the virus displayed was. How do I get my old properties back?

Mar 17, 2008Found this forum on trying to decipher a blue screen, but I'm pretty bad at diagnosing them.I read a thread about a minidump, and located that last dump from my blue screen and attached it to this post.My blue screen occurs when:1) I'm watching a video on Media Player Classic and all of a suddent the video goes black. The player then freezes if I attempt to move it/do anything with it. 2) After the MPC freeze, I can't select anything. I have to alt tab to be able to click/move anything after that.3) I then kill MPC via [X] and End Process or Ctrl+Alt+Delete and Kill Process.4) Any attempt at then watching another video after that with Media Player Classic blue screens my computer (and it doesn't stay up for me long enough to read it, I forgot where to make it not instantly reboot on blue screen).

Aug 30, 2007I am having a problem on my dell laptop insprion 8100, its running windows xp.The last few days it keeps resetting itself, I then get an option to upload a report which I do, I then get an error message I have tried loads of things now, virus checks, dell system check disks, and reformatted & then replaced windows still no luck, I thought it must ne a virus.
I have searched and read a few people thought it was firefox but I have not even placed that back onto the computer but it still resets. I do see a blue screen b4 hand but can't read what's on it before the laptop resets. I hope someone can help as everything pointed to hardware but the dell disks pointing to software
F1 Key Malfunction
Mar 5, 2007I have a laptop with a F1 key Malfunction, when Windows XP loads and my desktop appears it then loads help and support continuously, finally locking up the system. My question is how can i stop F1 from running help, is there some windows service that i can turn off permanently? So that the F1 key means nothing? Replacing the keyboard is not an option for me at this time!

Sep 19, 2005The special icon for "My Pictures" is gone and access to these files is compromised (they are there, but don't work like they should). Unable to run iTunes, a problem which started at the same time. The iTunes error originally request chdisk, which I did, problem persisted. Installed new iTunes version and did System Restore to one day prior to problem. Now iTunes simply crashes when I attempt to start it. I tried running the Desktop.ini reset command, no change due to that either. I am running XP Home with multiple users.

May 4, 2005When i boot my windows xp home edition machine, the normal login screen appears, but not all of the users and their icons show up One user and the guest user doesn't display...it is also in a lower resolution, so that may be why the other users don't show up, because there isn't enough room. Even when i click on my user, the first one listed, nothing happens. It doesn't log on, so I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice to get the alternative login screen to appear...and then when i click OK for my user, it logs in. I would like to have it back to the original state of the first login screen...and not have to go through the steps of the other screen. Has anybody ever experienced this before?

Jan 26, 2005I just replaced a power supply on a Windows XP computer and when it boots up, the os loads just fine, the startup programs begin to load and during this the display settings automatically change from 800x600 32-bit color to 640x480 8-bit color. It has a GeForce 440 MX card and all the drivers and such are working fine. I've tried everything fix it, but am having a less than fun time. Any suggestions would be great.

Jun 3, 2008i have a skull trail board, daul Extreme 3.2 Ghz LGA 711 quad core processors, 8 gb of DDR2 ECC ram and Nvidia Quadra 4000 series video card, and 1200 watt tough power power supply, 160 gb Wetern Digital raptor drive and 2 500gb Seagate Barracudas for storage and it runs xp 64 pro. The machine runs fine for 24 hours then i get a hardware malfunction error on the screen, the bios is the latest, the drivers are the latest, the tempratue never gets above 97 F in the case the processors never reach more then 95 F, yet the system still seems to crash there are no dump logs created, I ran every test i can think of on the hardware removed every peice of ram and tried each one by itself for 24 hours, have swapped out the video card, for diffrent brands, disconnected the extra drives, i'm at a lost so lets hear it HIT ME WITH SOME NEW IDEAS please i got just about 6k invested in this beast and it's killing me to find it blue screen once a day

Feb 18, 2006Alrite, my friend re-formatted his computer, and afterwards, he is having problems. It seems to start up fine, and it gets to both screens where it says, "Windows 2000 is starting up," and on the second one, it seems to get done then it goes to a blue screen for a very split second, and restarts automatically, and does this, Over and over. It doesn't make it to the desktop. He hooks up a different hard drive to it and it works fine.. It is also windows 2000. Its windows 2000 Service Pack 3.

Dec 21, 2006my computer was infected. I used to able to do a search from the address bar, but now I'm hyjacked to some sort of porno search engine.I use spybot,zone alarm,AVG, webroot. I've tryied using Hyjack this program in atempt to find problem.Still suffering!!! Any suggestions ?

I had a nasty virus attack and had to repair XP Pro. All else is repaired as far as I can tell, but this version of Search is not nearly as handy.

Mar 28, 2006is there a way in Windows XP to turned off searching in *.zip during the Search command? I search multiple network drives serveral times a day for files and do not need to search in the *.zip files. By searching the *.zip files the time is greatly increased. When I had Windows 2000 the search would take about 1 minute (did not search *.zip files) and now in Windows XP the search takes over 12 and half minutes (1079 *.zip files)
I did a test by making all the *.zip hidden and did the search again - averaged about 59 seconds. Unforunately, I have to leave the *.zip files as not hidden.
Any ideas?

May 5, 2005I'm battling spyware removal at the moment (aurora) and somehow my win xp sp2 search function no longer works. i get an error "A File That Is Required to Run Search Companion Cannot Be Found" you may need to run setup I went to the microsoft website and downloaded the hotfix, however it doesn't work with sp2! anybody know how to fix this? I checked and i do have the srchasst folder in windows.
