View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a built in wireless card in my Dell D610 laptop. Every time my computer wakes up it gives me a notice that it has detected a wireless network somewhere (even if it is secured or is very weak. This is annoying.
Can someone tell me how to stop this, or at least cause the notice to disappear after 1 second, rather than after about 20 seconds?
I am trying to fix my mother in laws computer for her. She had lost her Task Manager, which I have restored, and she has the Spyware Black notice on her desktop that I just can't get rid of. I tried a variety of fixes I have found. But so far, none have worked.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter running a defragmentation, I received a message that 6 mb of system 32 did not defrag. the system ran, closed, then when booted up the next day I received the windows 32 error. I have an OEM windows xp installed in the computer, a pentium III gateway, and i understand that common recovery proceedures cannot be used with success, because the OEM versions have embedded passwords and such. I have not heard strange sounds from my hard drive, previous to , and subsiquent to the problem. I wish to run chkdsk,to see if this can resolve the problem, if the OEM version will allow it. Is this possible, and the fact that I have a D drive slaved to the c drive matter?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was replying to an e-mail when a message something like 'Virtual memory exceeded,microsoft can fix this' came up. I believe I selected a 'go ahead' button and left it to fix the problem. When I came back sometime later the computer was not reacting to anything so I reset. The screen that shows my hardware etc came up and windows then started, however, when the start up appeared to have progressed to the stage where the screen goes blank and an arrow eventually appears it didn't! It went back to the screen that shows the hardware build and kept cycling in that mode.

I click on it to have in installed and after a while the installation freezes. I tried to restart the PC... but could not do it. I had to cut off the power to shut it down. When I rebooted, I received a notice saying that my operating system was not genuine and that I would no longer be able to receive updates. I am one hundred percent certain that my operating system is genuine... but, what should I do now?

My question is how can i stop F1 from running help, is there some windows service that i can turn off permanently? So that the F1 key means nothing? Unable to run iTunes, a problem which started at the same time. The iTunes error originally request chdisk, which I did, problem persisted. Installed new iTunes version and did System Restore to one day prior to problem. Now iTunes simply crashes when I attempt to start it. I tried running the Desktop.ini reset command, no change due to that either. I am running XP Home with multiple users.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen i boot my windows xp home edition machine, the normal login screen appears, but not all of the users and their icons show up One user and the guest user doesn't display...it is also in a lower resolution, so that may be why the other users don't show up, because there isn't enough room. Even when i click on my user, the first one listed, nothing happens. It doesn't log on, so I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del twice to get the alternative login screen to appear...and then when i click OK for my user, it logs in. I would like to have it back to the original state of the first login screen...and not have to go through the steps of the other screen. Has anybody ever experienced this before?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just replaced a power supply on a Windows XP computer and when it boots up, the os loads just fine, the startup programs begin to load and during this the display settings automatically change from 800x600 32-bit color to 640x480 8-bit color. It has a GeForce 440 MX card and all the drivers and such are working fine. I've tried everything fix it, but am having a less than fun time. Any suggestions would be great.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have a skull trail board, daul Extreme 3.2 Ghz LGA 711 quad core processors, 8 gb of DDR2 ECC ram and Nvidia Quadra 4000 series video card, and 1200 watt tough power power supply, 160 gb Wetern Digital raptor drive and 2 500gb Seagate Barracudas for storage and it runs xp 64 pro. The machine runs fine for 24 hours then i get a hardware malfunction error on the screen, the bios is the latest, the drivers are the latest, the tempratue never gets above 97 F in the case the processors never reach more then 95 F, yet the system still seems to crash there are no dump logs created, I ran every test i can think of on the hardware removed every peice of ram and tried each one by itself for 24 hours, have swapped out the video card, for diffrent brands, disconnected the extra drives, i'm at a lost so lets hear it HIT ME WITH SOME NEW IDEAS please i got just about 6k invested in this beast and it's killing me to find it blue screen once a day

It seems to start up fine, and it gets to both screens where it says, "Windows 2000 is starting up," and on the second one, it seems to get done then it goes to a blue screen for a very split second, and restarts automatically, and does this, Over and over. It doesn't make it to the desktop. He hooks up a different hard drive to it and it works fine.. It is also windows 2000. Its windows 2000 Service Pack 3.

When it locks it also makes whatever sound it had when it locks. Is there a way to see what is causing the lock? I’ve tried the troubleshooting FAQ on the software and got nowhere. When it locks it locks I’ve found no way to continue other then killing the power to the motherboard and restarting. There is no rhyme or reason to the lock no common timing or software or hardware. View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having some real issues with my Dell XPS 400 and I'm desperately seeking help. I'm running WinXP Pro and this pc is only about 16 months old. It has the original factory installed ram (1 gig) a 320 gig hard drive and the processor is an Intel ViiV. I have been getting a blue error screen with Hardware Malfunction Call your Hardware Vendor for Support Parity Check Memory Parity Error System was halted that lasted for a few hours. I had to hold the power button in for several seconds each time to shut it down. I ran both the Microsoft Windows Memory Diagnostic tests, as well as the Memtest 86,each several times. The results were always "no memory errors". I attempted a few times, unsucessfully, using the F11 key to reach the Acronis recovery partition. I booted using my XP disk but was unable to re-install. Windows would begin to load and then the blue screen with the same error message would occur. Finally, I was able to access the Acronis recovery manager and restore my pc but on reboot it began to run ChkDsk. Now it keeps rebooting and running a new disk check over and over and over.I have tried to cancel the ChkDsk using the keyboard but it keeps running. I'm at a loss, as to what else, if anything I can do, (besides ripping my hair out by the roots)
