i have a computer running a polish version of windows when i boot in normal and safe mode the error comes up about a corrupt shell32.dll and that reinstalling the app may help the problem.i tried to boot up with winternals erd commander to fix file systems but an error occurred with a blue screen complaining about the same shell32.dll.i booted off a windows 98 cd to dos.but it cant see the ntfs partition and on top of it i read that xp has an encryption key for files in the windows directory and it gave a fix...but in order for the fix to work you had to be able to get into windows.so obviously this doesnt help me.what are my options.what would you do.
My AVG scanner detected a change to file ''shell32.dll''. The rest just had the file name and then under 'result/infection' it had ok. When I have changed the filter to display viruses only this has stayed. I am using WinXP home.

I have been trying to fix an issue with a friends computer. Problem is I'm not very computer savvy :S So that's where you all come in :P I do have some knowledge of computer's and usually catch on pretty quickly. Basically I have been noticing my friends comp has become increasingly slow over the last week I have scanned with AVG and found a change in the following:
I have tried searching for the shell32.dll and found it only to be in the C:/windows/system32 folder as someone recommended in another post I had read on here..Those are the only items showing in a complete scan of the system so I have no idea what is causing this..Also she has been noticing an increased amount of pop ups even when explorer is not running? I believe they are CID or CDI pop ups.
I am getting this error more and more frequently with setup programs, as well as a handful of other programs that I used to be able to run with no problem. The problem is preventing the programs from running. Here is the error dialog I receive every time;
Quote: setup.exe - Illegal System DLL Relocation
The system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run properly. the relocation occured because the DLL C:WINDOWSsystem32SHELL32.dll occupied an address range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL
The Windows tool tip isn't the problem. When I connect to the internet the tool tip says 'Connected at 2.2mbps. However when you close the tool tip it's hidden, not actually terminated. Are tool tips part of shell32.dll or explorer.exe?Is it possible to terminate it? I don't mind RCE either of the files.
I built a system, installed an OEM copy of Win XP Home.The MB is defective no audio production, cheapy MB, anyway.Will I be able to replace the MB with a different - and better - brand and reinstall the OS?
Minutes ago I attempted to copy my HDD to another HDD. And I got this message: "Could not copy the file NxFsMon." It IS an XP system driver.Now, I don't know for a fact that this file is corrupt. But let's assume that it is. In which case deleting it and replacing it would, one would think, be a logical approach to the problem. (I fear such an assumption does not always apply in dealing with computers.). Assuming, of course, the file is on the CD. But it's in System32, so would that not be a fair assumption?If the file is corrupt, then there's an XP Repair install or a clean install option. But tell me, could not a copy of the file be taken from the XP CD and used to replace the same file on the HDD. It would seem a quick and much easier solutionthan a repair or clean install.
My recovery bin is missing and (on my desktop) it's been mysteriously replaced by a freeware program--Recovery Bin! Also, just as mysterious is My Videos are also missing from my computer. A search replies no such folder at all.
I have a Dell and my keyboard is in pretty bad shape. Some keys are sticky and the key covers (not sure what they are called) are missing making it difficult to type. Are there refurbished ones that would work? Is changing out a keyboard a hard thing to do? Will a generic keyboard work or would it have to be a Dell?

I am having trouble with my Philips Freevents X55P.I turned it on this morning and found that every key with a button that can be replaced by an 'Fn'shortcut comes up instead of the normal letter.For example:'-' comes up instead of 'p'.'0' comes up instead of 'm'.

It seems it was incompatible 'cos it didn't boot.Apparently it hasn't booted since either - despite replacing with original memory!The computer always says ' windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : system 32driverspcisys'. ( or to that effect - it's what he wrote down).He has the winxp installation disc. Can someone advise in reasonable detail how to remedy the problem without a reinstall
I have a desktop PC with Windows XP.Have had problems with Blue Screen of Death and have run a diagnostics test on the hard drive (as suggested in a forum) which shows the hard drive is on its way out.I have a replacement hard drive, but before I start doing anything (I am pretty much a complete beginner compared to everyone else out there) - could anyone recommend any guides/tutorials on the internet which explains in simple and comprehensive terms, the best way to replace a hard drive and reinstall windows. I have spent some time googling, but not found anything yet.

I've been getting a lot of BSOD on my XP notebook (P4 3ghz, 784 ram). Sometimes it will say an ACPI.sys error, or a Bad Pool Caller, etc.I've done some looking and it seems it's a bad driver (well, other posts say that). How do you go about finding which driver it is? There's gotta be 100s of them.....
Since removing the shipped HP HDD from my PC and replacing it with a 3rd party fresh one, I am concerned about how I will now go about recovering my PC. When Windows had problems in the past, I could simply press F10 on startup and there was a diagnostic section which allowed me to reformat in an either destructive or non-destructive way. What happens if my computer doesn't start up nowadays? As in, the Windows Loading logo screen appears and then the monitor goes black and stays black.. Is there any software or method to allow me to have some sort of management over this? Sorry if I have not been able to correctly ask my question.. Kinda hard.
Some time ago I got problems with my CD rom not reading anymore. I have now replaced it with a new one and still get the same error message.DCV reader/writer still works
