running Windows XP with SP2. When she turned on her PC this morning it came up with the error that the 2 files shell32 and msgina.dll were unable to be found or corrupted, how is it that she was able to use the PC last night but today it will not bootup

Does any body know how to replace the original dll? I tried to run a system recovery on my laptop but I dont know the keys to use.
He is running xp pro and when we start the computer up this is the message we recieve - User interface failure. The logon user interface dll msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator to replace the DLL, or restore the original DLL. I found this at Microsoft.com http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836683/ and followed the instructions, but when we go to last known good configuration, we recieve the original message again. I've tried to boot in safe mode, and recieve the same message. I searched the forum and found similar cases, except that he does not have a recovery disc. He doesn't know whether the system restore was enabled.

View 23 Replies View Relatedi have a computer running a polish version of windows when i boot in normal and safe mode the error comes up about a corrupt shell32.dll and that reinstalling the app may help the problem.i tried to boot up with winternals erd commander to fix file systems but an error occurred with a blue screen complaining about the same shell32.dll.i booted off a windows 98 cd to dos.but it cant see the ntfs partition and on top of it i read that xp has an encryption key for files in the windows directory and it gave a fix...but in order for the fix to work you had to be able to get into windows.so obviously this doesnt help me.what are my options.what would you do.

And , all applications are empty in start menu > Programs. And , all icons are changed. All my data lost in drive D: and E: There was name.exe file ( eg. photo1 is my file name, it changed photo1.exe, photo1.exe.exe, photo1.exe.exe.exe, photo1.exe.exe.exe.exe, photo1.exe.exe.exe.exe.exe, photo1.exe.exe.exe.exe.exe.exe ) with 15.6 MB size of each files. how can i do this problems and can i get my data file.

Problem is I'm not very computer savvy :S So that's where you all come in :P I do have some knowledge of computer's and usually catch on pretty quickly. Basically I have been noticing my friends comp has become increasingly slow over the last week I have scanned with AVG and found a change in the following:
Shell32.dll, kernel32.dll, hosts, user32.dll, ntoskrnl.dll
I have tried searching for the shell32.dll and found it only to be in the C:/windows/system32 folder as someone recommended in another post I had read on here..Those are the only items showing in a complete scan of the system so I have no idea what is causing this..Also she has been noticing an increased amount of pop ups even when explorer is not running? I believe they are CID or CDI pop ups.
I am getting this error more and more frequently with setup programs, as well as a handful of other programs that I used to be able to run with no problem. The problem is preventing the programs from running. Here is the error dialog I receive every time;

The Windows tool tip isn't the problem. When I connect to the internet the tool tip says 'Connected at 2.2mbps. However when you close the tool tip it's hidden, not actually terminated. Are tool tips part of shell32.dll or explorer.exe?Is it possible to terminate it? I don't mind RCE either of the files.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery time I reboot the computer, skype (since it launches at start up) tells me that there are no sound devices. I go to the device manager, but the sound device is listed. It doesn't work though. I try winamp/wmp etc, no sound. So I do a uninstall, and redetect and its all good. Now if I reboot the computer, I have to repeat this whole process. Now, I thought this had something to do with the onboard audio, so I diabled that in the Bios, and added a pci sound card, but the same thing happened.This computer also has issues with WinXP sp2s firewall. I can't turn it on, but thats an issue for some other thread.

The required data was not placed into memory because of an I/O error status of "0xc000009c".The laptop is slower than normal. Everything else seems to work apart from the internet and msn messenger, which will load up to begin with, but is slow, but then when something is typed into google or i put my information into msn messenger to log on it freezes and says they are not responding to send error report.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn my computer on it shows me the normal Windows XP loading icon and then that goes away and I can watch the CPU light go haywire right as the blue screen (of death) says that there has been a fatal error (0x0000135) and the system has shut down. I have no clue what to do... the only way to bypass this (if you want to call it that) is to hit F2 and go to setup mode. I don't know what to do there. I've had problems before where the computer will only go to one or another BSOD and I've had to completely clear the hard drive and reload everything on it aka start from scratch. Usually my dad does this but first I would like to see if there is any other way to fix it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedCurrent situation: When Windows XP boots it displays Windows logo, black screen and then a small error window with title "User Interface Failure" and text "The logon user interface dll msgina.dll failed to load. Contact your system administrator ..." There is a button to restart the system. Booting causes a loop back to the same state; I cannot get the system to boot to safe mode. Other than the lack of a logon and desktop the rest of the boot process seems to continue OK; I can access network shared drives from another system. Using BartPE I can see that msgina.dll is in C:windowssystem32 as it should be. Unfortunately much of the data I need to access for my work is not on shared drives and cannot be accessed by BartPE so I am in big trouble.
Background: The express version of SpyCatcher was installed a few daus ago. All was OK until I restarted the system and arrived at the current situation. I also have BartPE which I have used to look at the SpyCatcher logs and found entries that msgina.dll was quarantined (along with many other safe items). I believe this is the cause of the problem and not anything else.

View 2 Replies View Relateda friend has a Dell Dimension 4550 (P4-2Ghz, 60Gb HDD, 784mb RAM- added 512mb and a NEC DVD+/-R, circa 2002 I think?) and needs to do a clean install. He has the CD that came with it. We looked all over google and the Dell site and can't seem to find out how to do a clean install. We pressed F12 and tried to boot from the CD-ROM and thought it was going to work, but it said that we were trying to install XP on a partition that already had XP on it. I saw no option for full/clean restore.

I reinstalled XP-SP2, Office, Norton, the printer and scanner and my digital camera software package. All were updated and working perfectly until Sunday. I booted up the machine only to get a warning that says One of your disks may have errors let the computer reboot itself (which it will do repeatedly, stuck in a reboot loop) or you can hit any key to ignore this warning. You have only ten seconds to read all this and make a decision.
Once the computer boots up, everything seems to work as normal except for system restore. I tried to restore to the day after I reformatted and installed everything and all I get is an error saying Cannot restore to that point, please choose another point to restore tooor something to that effect.

I am currently trying to hook up my dell latitude cpx to my tv to use it as my monitor. It has an S-Video out port, and my tv has RCA ports only, so i purchased a cable which is s-video to an rca connector for my video in. Well when I boot up my laptop, when i get to the welcome screen in xp, it starts to display on my tv, but then about 5 to 10 seconds after that it flickers and the picture goes away.Ive tried everything in the display settings and also enabled everything in my BOIS, with no luck.

You have maybe 10 good minutes before it happens - it doesn't seem to matter what you were doing - we have been using firefox, or IE, or any number of other non-web browser programs when it happens. It will suddenly freeze up and there is nothing you can do but shut it down by pressing the power button.The only thing different that we did recently was download and install the latest Norton 360. After that the freezing up started, but in all honesty, it was seeming a little sluggish before that.
I've been having problems with slow performance. This happens when switching users, working offline and when browsing.
I use Norton Antivirus and Spy Sweeper.
I have recently had to format my Dell Dimension 2400 desktop due to the fact it was full of viruses
I used an XP home sp2 disc to format and reinstall the operating system no probs, but now the screen resolution won't go above 640x480 pixels, and everything is massive, I'm guessing this is a driver issue
i'm haveing tonz of probleums with XP and i'm not really sure what to do, i don't have much space left and i would like to just start over i have formatted it twice before, and fixed all the probleums. now if i do it from that will i still need the windows XP cd and such, i also have my dell recovery cd if this helps?
