a very old blac/white and a lesser old color both parallel work well w/IBM notebooks.The new Dell only has USB and the black/white works,the color 820Cse would only print Internet documents but none that I type in Word or Wordperfect. Why print one kind but not what I am typing?
View 8 RepliesI am trying to network two laptops together via Ethernet cable rather than through the wireless router, as I am trying to transfer large files quickly.I am using a Dell Inspirion 8100 and a Sony Vaio PCG-Z1A.I was able to connect the Vaio PCG-Z1A to a MacBook Pro via Ethernet cable just a couple of days ago, so I don't think that the problem is with the Vaio.When I plug the Dell into the router with the Ethernet cable, it automatically detects the connection and DHCP assigns an address. Thus, I can only assume that the Ethernet adapter is working fine. But when I plug the Dell directly into my Vaio with the Ethernet cable, the tray icon on the Dell says "Local Area Connection - A network cable is unplugged."

I asked her if they were all wireless or what and this is what she sent me via email.Both laptops are and I think the pc we just took in the basement is because it was connected to the printer wireless. Why do you ask?The modem and router that were attached to the pc that is in the basement are now under a table in my bedroom and the laptops are connected to them wireless.

I have a desktop which I always have Num Lock on as it has its own dedicated keypad. The problem is when I Remote Desktop into my laptop my laptop does not have the dedicated keypad the numbers on the keypad portion are actually 1/3rd of the letters on the keyboard (I.E I,O,P would be 7,8,9) when numlock is on. It's fine until I disconnect and I go home...
When I get home I start typing as I normally would but half the letters look like numbers because the Num Lock is still on from when I used Remote Desktop to connect in.
I know the obvoius solution is to turn off Numlock on my PC before I disconnect Remote Desktop from the Laptop but I really just want the Laptop to revert back to its original keyboard state once I disconnect...
Anyone know of a solution?
a friend has a Dell Dimension 4550 (P4-2Ghz, 60Gb HDD, 784mb RAM- added 512mb and a NEC DVD+/-R, circa 2002 I think?) and needs to do a clean install. He has the CD that came with it. We looked all over google and the Dell site and can't seem to find out how to do a clean install. We pressed F12 and tried to boot from the CD-ROM and thought it was going to work, but it said that we were trying to install XP on a partition that already had XP on it. I saw no option for full/clean restore.

When I start to use my Picasa program I have a continual pop up that says " The DLL "cpuinf32.dll" can not be loaded. OS reports: The specifdied module could not be fouind. I am currently trying to hook up my dell latitude cpx to my tv to use it as my monitor. It has an S-Video out port, and my tv has RCA ports only, so i purchased a cable which is s-video to an rca connector for my video in. Well when I boot up my laptop, when i get to the welcome screen in xp, it starts to display on my tv, but then about 5 to 10 seconds after that it flickers and the picture goes away.Ive tried everything in the display settings and also enabled everything in my BOIS, with no luck.

You have maybe 10 good minutes before it happens - it doesn't seem to matter what you were doing - we have been using firefox, or IE, or any number of other non-web browser programs when it happens. It will suddenly freeze up and there is nothing you can do but shut it down by pressing the power button.The only thing different that we did recently was download and install the latest Norton 360. After that the freezing up started, but in all honesty, it was seeming a little sluggish before that.
I've been having problems with slow performance. This happens when switching users, working offline and when browsing.
I use Norton Antivirus and Spy Sweeper.
I have recently had to format my Dell Dimension 2400 desktop due to the fact it was full of viruses
I used an XP home sp2 disc to format and reinstall the operating system no probs, but now the screen resolution won't go above 640x480 pixels, and everything is massive, I'm guessing this is a driver issue
i'm haveing tonz of probleums with XP and i'm not really sure what to do, i don't have much space left and i would like to just start over i have formatted it twice before, and fixed all the probleums. now if i do it from that will i still need the windows XP cd and such, i also have my dell recovery cd if this helps? This is exactly what it says in my Dell Handbook:
1. Insert the resource CD.
2. Shut down and restart the computer. When the Dell logo appears, press F12 immediately.
3. When the boot device list appears, highlight IDE CD-ROM Device and press Enter. This is as far as I can get. When I select the CD-ROM to boot from, nothing happens and Windows loads normally.
4. Select the IDE CD-ROM Device option from the CD boot menu...........

However, after putting in the XP disk and starting up the computer I am not getting the hit any key to reboot from cd message I expected. (from what I've been reading maybe this is because XP was preinstalled) in any case I can hit F4 or F12 and am given options, but don't know the right way to reboot from here. The laptop go to win, I am looking at cd rom and the light is blinking. I disable the hard dive and floopy, and the laptop said on boot device or operator system. I am in coms trying to bios, so I could boot from the cd rom. However, nothing is working, is their any way I could wipe this hard drive. I feel that their something that stoping the cd rom from boot the disk. Or someone made to boot from hard drive only.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEver since I reinstalled a few weeks ago, I'm still having problems.No doubt it's because I chose not to install all the Dell disks (since for crying out loud - who wants so much extraneous junque?Some of my problems:(1) Attachments I receive in webmail don't work. for example, someone sent me .doc attachments and when I tried either download or preview or saving to WordPad (as well as text-file) - nothing worked. All it displayed was either one line of gibberish or nothing at all.(2)Whereas prior to reinstall, my Nvidia Color-Correction tab used to display(complete with popout tab) so that I could dim my screen via Contrast/Brightness/etc., now it fails to display.This is affecting my health due to my photosensitivity!It's definitely related to my reinstallation. There's definitely stuff missing.My question is:Since the Dell Darlings failed to be so kind as to thoroughly label each CD, perhaps someone here can enlighten me re: how I should proceed in order to regain the above functions?
