Boot Up - Monitor Loses Signal And Reboot Occurs
Mar 18, 2006
I have been experiencing intermittent bootup problems with Windows XP. When this happens, the XP splash screen appears(blue line scrolling) and then monitor loses signal and reboot occurs. This can cycle several times, even if I choose the option of starting Windows with last known configuration that worked.

I have a dual monitor setup on my PC. Today, when I boot it up, the main monitor displayed all theboot information and startup stuff, however, when the system SHOULD have gotten to the user login screen, the main montor came up with "no signal." The secondary monitor at this time will still show my mouse moving around on it, and I'm able to move the mouse over to the main monitor but I can't see anything.I've gone through a few basic manuevers to see what was wrong. I booted in safe mode and logged in to my mai account and attempted to change the other monitor to the main one; However, Safe Mode does not appear to supoort multi-monitor and I couldn't change this. After that, I attempted to VNC into my computer with the notebook I'm on now. When I came to the login dialogue box, the only account I could log into was the invisible "Administrator" account. My main account, as well as a temporary account I created for testing, both came up with an error "Cannot access due to user restrictions." My theory is that because all of the accounts which are actually visible on the login screen seem to not be working, the login is bugging and not outputting anything to my main monitor (since I have verified both monitors and connections to be working properly).

My computer has been doing this for awhile, it works fine, I can watch videos on it and everything, then I go play a game (Call of Duty 4 on max graphics) then after a minute or two my monitor would go blank (Blue in this case since its HDMI) and lose the signal to the graphics card, The connector isn't loose, nor is power and I must reboot to get the signal back.I have upgraded the computer with this graphics card, I did uninstall old drivers but maybe not fully.Another perhaps unrelated problem is that whenever I restart, it no longer detects my graphics card, resolution: 800x600, 4-bit, I must uninstall all my drivers, then reinstall them and it fixes the problem.

Got a problem, I have Acronis True Image and I have restored the settings stored which is about 2 years old now. I have done this loads of time to clean the pc and start afresh. Problem is i am now unable use computer - "no signal" on pc showing up. Anyhow i have been fishing about and it looks like the graphics card is not working, there is no sign of it in dxdiag/display. I know the graphics card is Radeon 9200 SE AGP and i also have the disc, but i still cannot get it to work, I am safe mode at the moment.

I entered my XP run PC into standby yesterday but as it would not resume later, I turned it off using the power button. Now it won't wake up again. I have been sitting in front of a blank screen for 3 hours. The monitor displays "no video signal", so I exchanged monitors but the other one stays blank too. The pc appears to be running but will not boot. I have entered Windows CD to restore but it won't even boot that.

I'm guessing this should be in the hardware section, but I want to make sure it's not a software related issue. To give you the complete story here, I was playing Madden last night when all of a sudden my computer rebooted by itself. No warnings or anything, just a black screen for a quick moment and then a reboot.
I thought it was a bit strange and waited for it to boot to see what it had to report, but to my surprise it booted up windows, got to my desktop and then did the same thing again, so I just let it sit there till today

A friend of mine needs win 2000 Pro boot discs. I don't think this is illegal as a microsoft site says if you have problems to make from a friends. He is the only person I know who has it. Need the discs to access his system. Probably infected. Cant get it to start, shutdown, nothing. Sometimes monitor says no signal. Sometimes works. Checked wires. Put in an old spare video adapter card, starts to work fine but freezes before I can do anything. I do not have a floppy drive so I need to be able to burn them to a CD.

First time user, and at my whit's end with my computer. Bear with me as my computer knowledge is very limited. I have a Gateway 2.8 GHZ celeron with 1GB of ram. I also have a Radeon Video Card (forgot the exact model). I went to activate my computer from standby mode and it would not come up. I did a hard reboot and when windows came back up it was real slow and the computer monitor did not "turn on" until it entered windows. It seemed to be in safe mode. No icons were available on the desktop and the background I had was reduced in size and surrounded by the basic green background color. The other colors are also screwed up, the seemed very basic. I was able to get McAfees to come up and am currently running a virus scan. The start button with it's options is available but with very limited use. I tried a system restore, but the window would not appear. Whatever I open seems to open the window on the far left side of the screen beyond the reach of the mouse. Bottom line is the computer is, for the most part, inoperable.

I haven't installed anything new on my computer but today after having my computer shipped to me via UPS I cut on my computer and where the XP load bar screen was I got: "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device".Seeing this I knew I went into the BIOS setup and tried to turn the system priority to look at the HDD. Instead I only had the option of the DVD drive and the CD drive.I have no idea how to solve this problem and don't have any of the recovery CD's. I DO NOT WANT TO REFORMAT because like a bad little boy I did not backup my 4 years worth of work.

I am trying to go from a single monitor to a dual monitor. My present graphic card is integrated on to my motherboard. I have another old graphic card a PCI S3 Virge. The problem with this graphic card is that its driver is not supported by Windows XP.If I disable my graphic card on my motherboard.I can manage to get
this PCI graphic card to work.If I hook up both the graphic cards i.e. both of them are enabled, the computer does not manage to boot (except in safe mode.) It should also be mentioned that when my PCI card is plugged in the computer at time of booting uses it and not the monitor plugged into the graphic card attached to the motherboard. Is there a way to change this.I tried messing with i.e. all possible combinations of values in the BIOS, but nothing seems to work. I would be grateful if someone had some idea on what to try.

I currently look after a network of 20 computers, some running windows 7 and most running XP sp3 (32+64bit) Mine is 32bit.
I joined my computer to the domain after a fresh install of XP. Here are where the problems started. After about 15 minutes I lost internet connection. About 20 minutes later the computer could not open or close any programs without killing the process. Then I lost network connection and was left with only the task manager running and no explorer open. I managed to install SP3 after downloading it on a seperate computer and running it on a disk.

My main computer's (XP, SP3) Internet connection is shared among 3 other machines via ICS. However, one machine (XP, SP3) - which runs a couple of P2P programs - usually loses its connectivity (even file sharing) after a few days. I'm running Kaspersky Internet Security on the main computer. I've tried disabling it (for testing purposes) to no avail. I've also disabled Windows Firewall on both machines with no improvement. Using a router is pointless because it freezes after a few days (due to the P2P programs). I've tried 4 or 5 different routers (even the "good" brands).
Is it simply an overload in terms of the number of connections possible? Does ICS, in principle, face the same problems as a typical router? Because I've even tried reducing the number of P2P programs to just one and also limiting the number of connections it makes. (Not to mention "fixing" the 'tcpip.sys' limit on both machines.) Any ideas what the problem could be and how to fix it?

My mouse keeps hanging up and clock loses time when not running in safe mode. Not just the mouse really, but nothing at all works. When I boot normally (not into safe mode), windows can take forever to load due to this. On last boot my clock lost 10 out of 15 minutes uptime and I had to manually power off even then. I am running Windows XP Service pack 2 on a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ system with 1214 mb mem 150 gig hdd.

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you have seen this error screen restart your computer. If the screen appears again follow these steps. Run a system diagnostic utility supplied by your hardware manufacturer. In particular run a memory check, and check for faulty or mismatched memory. Try changing video adapters. Disable or remove any newly installed hardware. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable componenents restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, then select safe mode. Technical information: 0x0000007" The blue screen almost always occurs when I am in Quickbooks.
anybody have any idea what this message is all about?

After I enter a series of keystrokes and stop, I get the chimes sound. This
is quite annoying but I can't find a setting to turn it off. The only way to
make it stop is to select "No Sounds" in the Sounds and Audio Devices section
of Control Panel

Does anyone know what this sound artifact is and where it is coming from? It has been in windows for as long as I can remember in XP on 3+ computers and may also have occurred in previous versions. It occurs at random times and it is not very loud (though the first one is louder than the second, each lasting for maybe a 1/4 of a second with maybe a 1.5 sec silent interval in between) but it is somewhat annoying and makes me wonder what the h3ll it is.If anyone knows anything about it please post here. Also if anyone else has heard it, please post to this thread too. I would like to know how many other users out there are aware of this problem.

This is not a desktop recovery error. While using the computer, for example using IE on the internet: all of my desktop icons and access to anything ie. start menu and right click on desktop no longer works. I can continue using the IE open window, but to get my other programs back I have to shut down. The desktop wallpaper still remains.

I recently decided to try out running OSX on my PC. This post isn't about that, so don't worry about any legal issues. Anyway, I was planning on just using Windows' disk manager to create a new partition, but the guide gave the following instructions using the command line-based 'diskpart'. I figured maybe it would work slightly different than the usual method, so I followed the instructions listed

These symptons and problem have started within the past week, without warning: My laptop is now particularly slow, the mouse lags, as does the internet - especially videos and music starts. Also, there is a "service.exe" application error that occurs a split second before the computer turns off, so on the "windows is shutting down" screen. Consequently I'm an unable to read the error code. I presume the services.exe error and the slowing down are related.

Screen goes blank, "NO VGA signal" displays, then everything shuts down. This happened every once in a while for a month or so, but now almost every time I'm on the computer. SOmetimes after I've been on a long time, sometimes after only a few minutes. I usually lose everything, although sometimes some of the programs I'm operating are still up when I turn it back on.
