Feb 2, 2005
i installed spy bot search and destroy and on reboot it seems that the program has decided not to let me run any exe files/applications! im running xp and i cant find how to make the exe files work again. the error message i get when clicking anything is "this file does not have a program assosiated with it for performing this action.Create an association in the folder option control panel"
If you use ICQ and windows xp firewall, you have noticed that file send won't work. Here is how to get it working without disabling the entire firewall :1. First you must limit the range of port that ICQ use for send. In icq, click on Main, Preferences, User tab, click on 'Not using proxy' and choose 'Use the following TCP listen port for incoming event from 1030 to 1030'. (use port number of your choice, 1030 is only for exemple)2. After, go into control panel & network connections2. Right click on your connection and select 'properties'3. Left click the advanced tab4. Left click the settings button5. Under services, left click the add button6. For description type "ICQ", for Name of IP put the name that identifies your system with your ISP OR your IP if it is static.7. Both external and internal ports are 1030 by default and TCP. (depend of wich port you set at beginning)8. Click OK and restart
how i can make this software work with service pack 2? or how can i downgrade to service pack 1 then install my software then upgrade to service pack 2 again?
How to make disk cleanup work properly? It used to work. Now afte you selected/checked what you want to clean up, such as recycle bin and temporary internet files, then it only goes to four or five bars and never completes. Does anyone out there have an answer to this problem without causing a virus from downloading something to fix the problem?
I have an old Kenwood shortwave radio that provides computer connectivity via RS232. However, my computer only has USB. Try as I might, I cannot get the USB-Serial adapter cable drivers to install correctly in XP. I have even tried additional drivers for other makes of adapter cable with the same result. There is always an exclamation point next to the USB-to-Serial Bridge and Human Interface Device entries in Device Manager and no new COM port is apparently created/opened. Trying to update or reinstall the drivers from there only gives some useless message akin to "can't find information on hardware" or "can't find software." Until this link is functional.
I cannot install new applications on my WinXP HE. I've tried 10 or more and all give me a similar problem: error during install. some say, that they do not have write access to "program files" dir, but that's nonsense, since the installer installs the directory and some files already.
I keep having applications hang when I try to search for image files. Apps that are hanging include Windows Explorer, Outlook Express, Adobe Photoshop, and Quark XPress. I've gotten the Dr. Watson debugger message whenever Explorer hangs. The applications hang as soon as I select the folder where my images are stored. It's not all folders, only some, and it seems to randomly pick when it will or will not work. I have tried rebooting and it seems to work sometimes, but then other times I reboot and have display issues, such as fonts not being recognized and email messages shown all in italics. As a workaround, I have rebooted and been able to go to Explorer, and drag a file to the desktop. Then it seems to be fine when I access from the desktop.
I would just like to know if there is any software that can make an .iso file from files on a hdd. I guess like compiling an iso image is what I want without burning anything to disk. I have alcohol 120 and what I want to try out is to put all my music and other files into nice 4.7gb iso or any other image format like mdf so that I can mount the image on a drive and if I need to back stuff up its only a double click away. I think this might end up being as much of a hassle to look through drives, but I don’t like the normal way of looking through folders and folders and sub folders to have my stuff nice and neatly organized on my pc.
I have some ISO Files and would like to make a cd with each file. I also want then to be bootable. Do I just copy the ISO to the disk, or do I copy the contents of the ISO to a disk. How do I do that?
when I try and open up certain folders that have pictures and video from my digital camera I have uploaded whenever I try and open the video files or hover over them I get an error message reading:
Application Error
The ordinal 6880 could not be located in the DLL MFC42.DLL.
After I click OK it closes any & every explorer window I have on the screen. Including the one with the video files in it.
Content of directory "Downloaded Program files" is invisible. How can I do it visible? I checked that in Folder options "Show hidden files..." is selected and " Display the content of system folders" also is checked.
I have a windows 2000 professional operating system and I need to boot from a floppy. I'm missing ntdetect.com and my original windows 2000 cd does not work. What files do I need to make my floppy disk?
I have just installed Windows XP SP3 in my computer. Everything is normal except when i browse a folder that has image files (at least .jpg). It makes thw windows explorer hangs (stop responding) and i have to end it then restart it with task manager.
Okay, attached find two pics, explorer1 and explorer2. The first is taken from the 'save as' menu from an open word document, and clearly shows the file 'OLKBB' under the temp internet files, as well as the tree structure above it. Explorer2 shows the view, only as seen from Windows Explorer, and obviously that folder (and God Alone knows what else) isn't there. I've got 'show hidden files' unticked, plus 'hide protected os system files' unticked. Still can't figure out why this is.
I downloaded photoshop, and when I tried to install it, it says I have to be an admin. So, I logged off this account and signed in as Administrator, so when I tried to click Mozilla Firefox, it doesn't work. All it did was it came out with this : " Windows cannot find C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox exe.' Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, then click search"
i cant seem to get runas to work in a batch file runas /env /user:domainadminuser cmd exit it works when manually entered into a command window, just not in a batch script. all that happpens is the command is echoed in a continuous loop.
none of the commands i use in command prompt work and i get this wierd error when i play one of my games (counter strike) saying that there is something wrong with my half life launcher when there isnt. the game works fine but as soon as i close the error the game closes. but more importantly ive been told that i have system files missing? if this is the case how do i get them back?
I am having 2 problems. My boyfriend changed a few file types and named a program to open them. (One was Sims2 Pack files) now the files don't work. How does one change them back, when one doesn't know what opened them in the first place? Also I have some DOOZIES of virus/and or/spystuff. (One of the things is a red ball with an x in it, that sits in my systray. I found out that it is impossible to clean (ie format) my C: partition.
I upgrade to WMP 10 and all my existing mpeg files don't work. I just get sound and a black screen. I see quite a few others posting similar problems. It now appears that my DVD Encoders are no longer compatible with WMP 10. Hmmm they were fine with WMP9...what gives? now it appears I must PURCHASE a new set of encoders, conveniently located through the WMP10 "Plug-Ins" drop down menu. And don't think you can go back to WMP9, it also seems that my system restore point created before the upgrade mysteriously fails to work.
I have had a slightly annoying problem with Outlook Express which I use as my default mail client. Everything seems to work fine apart from when I try to open PDF files directly from OE, it tries to open them with notepad, which obviously doesn't work. I can save them anywhere else on my computer, my documents for example, and opening them from there works fine. I have the latest Adobe Reader. I can't find anyway to tell OE to open these attachments using Adobe Reader.
I am running a Windows XP SP2 with 768 Ram and a 2.66 GHz Pentium 4 CPU. I recently purchased a 20GB Maxtor OneTouch II USB hard drive and it came with Retrospect HD to back up my comptuer. The program will not do anyhting if i click setup so I can set it up to back up my computer. It also says ''updating status'' the whole time. Ihave left it at this screen for a long time and still nothing happened. I downloaded and installed the updrade for this from Maxtor's website, and it is still doign the same thing. Any suggestions on how to get this prgram working so I can back-up my computer?
If I use this to back-up my computer, and I use its restore feature, will I get problems on my computer that I currently have? (the main problem is with Windows Firewall, becuase i cannot enable it. My ocmptuer got infected a couple months ago and ever since is says it is controlled by Group Policy. For more detals on my problem click here I am using ZoneAlarm, but it will not work with my home network for sharing files and printers even though I have the IP address unblocked).
Going crazy trying to back up my Quicken 2004 files to CD-RW. The instructions for doing this from Intuit do not work. I have the latest patch which is release3. It claims that the built in CD burner program in XP will open if I click on file then backup. Nothing happens. Where is the built in Cd burner program? Dell was no help as was Quicken.
i have window xp working fine but i have problem that i cant see the hiddien files that i have made that no one can have acess to them but now when i check the option that show hidden file but when i exit the folder option it remain same file remain hidden. if some one know is it virus or some other problem.
Last night XP was just fine, and this morning at first boot up, the typical files appeared when there is a problem...win.com, DBluff,Himem and etc were either missing or corrupted....So no way to restore it, the recovery disk couldn't,so I had to reinstall it on another partition.I wanted to copy my AOL program over to the new partition from the C drive and its just not there...gone. How is this possible?
I woke up one day (hadn't installed anything in the meantime) and was unable to drag any icons or folders. My mouse won't "pick up" any of them, on my desktop or within a folder. I can drag program windows around, so I don't think it's an issue with my mouse. I thought maybe a recent Windows Update had messed it up, so I uninstalled the most recent one, but it didn't do anything.
I need some help. I'm running windows xp pro w/SP2. Everytime I select search to look for files/folders it hangs. It doesn't work. Is there a fix for this?
I cannot move any of the desktop icons.I cannot drag and drop any files, but copy and paste works.I cannot mouse click in between different programs many times and often have to use Alt-Tab to get around windows.Since this has shown up, I reformatted and installed Windows at least 10 times. I've run numerous virus and spyware programs and found the system to be clean.
