none of the commands i use in command prompt work and i get this wierd error when i play one of my games (counter strike) saying that there is something wrong with my half life launcher when there isnt. the game works fine but as soon as i close the error the game closes. but more importantly ive been told that i have system files missing? if this is the case how do i get them back?
Is there some place that I can search to see if windows files/commands are legitimate? I have Zone Alarm and it has programs on it trying to access the Internet that I do not recognize. Another one was: Microsoft Out of Bounds. I have Windows XP Home Edition with all updates.I have ZoneAlarm free and McAffee AntiVirus.Nothing has been detected.
I can not launch 90% of my apps, word, excel, adaware, when I click on the program it launches, and I get the .exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Then it shuts down that program. I can not add any new favorites to my internet explorer, does the same thing. I can not download a file and save it, I can download a file and run it though, not always successfully. Pretty much the pc is becoming crippled I have run registryfix7 (had it installed) fixed what was listed, but no helpI have done a full virus scan and spyware scan with Windows LiveOneCare, nothing shows up.
my computer is filled with all sorts of spyware and adware. Ive used all teh chekc programs etc. and deleted whatever i could but yet the pop ups continue to come. In add/remove programs i deleted everything i could but some things couldnt be deleted because the .dll files were missing or something along those lines. please review my hijack this and advise me further. In addition when i go to a website i must enter www or it doesnt connect to the site. on my other computer i can do that. what can i do to fix it??
Installed new cd rom still doesn't work. In device manager its says for both cd rom devices( Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)Tried to uninstall and reinstall no luck. I may have deleted something important in either Nortons Spybot or spyware. I deleted a bunch of problems detected by one of those and then read it might not be a good idea because it could effect other prop in your PC
i am, or was using windows xp. started getting the error message on startup - windows root>system32toskrnl.exe is missing/corrupt etc.so i put in the windows xp cd and went to recovery and i've tried most things people have suggested, copying/expanding the file etc. but i want to try everything one more time just to cross that of the list so if u can give me some suggestions ill try them so i can let u no wot happened.
About ten days ago my Acer Aspire E360 (AMD 64 X2 3800, 2gb - Win Media Center 2005) started giving BSOD errors at startup. It would to into safe mode but no trouble shooting worked. Finally it wouldn't boot at all giving me the: NTLDR missing error. I downloaded the ISO that 'fixes' this error and it didn't work, saying that hal.dll was missing. My recovery disks - 6 in all - are available but when I booted from them they said that it would erase the entire C drive. In the meantime I downloaded ISOs to test the disk and the memory. Disk was fine, but there was one very bad memory stick, which I've replaced.
I don't want to lose the C: data. I did do an Acronis 10 backup just before it went totally down, but I'm not sure that the bad memory stick didn't corrupt data that's now backed up. A friend gave me a copy of a WinXP Pro (without serial number) to see if I could use the repair function. However, he only copied the files and did not clone the disk so it's not bootable. Using another computer I used Nero (Caldera DOS) to make a bootable disk. Unfortunately when I tried to boot up with it I got a warning: "EMM386 - address line A20 already enabled." and then it froze.
Problems occured after last update from Microsoft and consistent blue screens which I was able to correct in Safe Mode. Seems Microsoft dumped part of SP2 in my ad-remove programs but now I'm back to SP1 although there may be a conflict? Now using Microsoft "how to troubleshoot missing network connections icons in....XP" gets me to step 5...registering the dlls. Two I was able to register...netcfgx.dll and netman.dll.
This fault occurs on my brothers Win Xp machine, with the machine going round in the usual startup loop and never getting to windows. When booting from the XP cd, he can't use the recovery utility, because he can't remember the Administrators password. On one occassion in the recovery utility, we somehow managed to start windows (really don't know how, because it hasn't worked since).
I can open up the recovery console with my winxp disc, but not long enough to fix the problem. My computer will shut down.I originally thought that it might have been an overheating issue, but i ran Sandra and all temps came up under 40 cel. I can not seem to keep my computer booted long enough to fix anything. It will stay booted as long as it is on the choice option of the Windows XP cd to install, repair or exit.
I learned here that it might be a keyboard issue, replaced it with one known to be good and it didn't work. After some more fumbling around looking for a solution, I unplugged the HDD and plugged in the other HDD I have on the system with a separate installation of Win XP Pro and got the exact same error, even though I know for a fact it was working the last time I had it plugged in and it has not been plugged in since then.
Well I seem to have encountered a problem numerous other people have encountered and well im rather desperate to fix it though i must list 2 important details
1. I have a HP- Pavilion Windows XP mediacenter edition. 2. My recovery mode does not work and my computer never came with a recovery disc of any sort (grrrr stupid idea to put the recovery on the computer IMO) 3. I have little money to spend as of right now. Buying a new computer not an option and buying a new windows operating system is MAYBE a option but one ide like to avoid. 4. Im more curious as to how i should tackle this. Ive read up on a few sites found a site that gives a bootable disc containing the NTLDR file ( I dont know a whole lot about this stuff)
This is all just very aggrivating for me. My computer works and runs better than most new computers despite bieng 4 years old. This is the first issue ive had with it in awhile other than my recovery not working due to a error about a hive file not working ( i figured ide make a seperate thread if i choose to worry about this issue but if some one finds this to be a important detail please do tell me) Also ive looked into purchasing the spotmau disc for it 'adervtises' it is able to fix this problem. How reliable they are i am not sure of how ever.
My volume icon is missing from the tool bar. It has happened before, but a few reboots would always bring it back. Now it is gone. I have gone to control panel>sound and audio properties and found the place volume icon in task bar box checked. What can I do next?
i cant seem to get runas to work in a batch file runas /env /user:domainadminuser cmd exit it works when manually entered into a command window, just not in a batch script. all that happpens is the command is echoed in a continuous loop.
i installed spy bot search and destroy and on reboot it seems that the program has decided not to let me run any exe files/applications! im running xp and i cant find how to make the exe files work again. the error message i get when clicking anything is "this file does not have a program assosiated with it for performing this action.Create an association in the folder option control panel"
I am having 2 problems. My boyfriend changed a few file types and named a program to open them. (One was Sims2 Pack files) now the files don't work. How does one change them back, when one doesn't know what opened them in the first place? Also I have some DOOZIES of virus/and or/spystuff. (One of the things is a red ball with an x in it, that sits in my systray. I found out that it is impossible to clean (ie format) my C: partition.
I upgrade to WMP 10 and all my existing mpeg files don't work. I just get sound and a black screen. I see quite a few others posting similar problems. It now appears that my DVD Encoders are no longer compatible with WMP 10. Hmmm they were fine with WMP9...what gives? now it appears I must PURCHASE a new set of encoders, conveniently located through the WMP10 "Plug-Ins" drop down menu. And don't think you can go back to WMP9, it also seems that my system restore point created before the upgrade mysteriously fails to work.
I have had a slightly annoying problem with Outlook Express which I use as my default mail client. Everything seems to work fine apart from when I try to open PDF files directly from OE, it tries to open them with notepad, which obviously doesn't work. I can save them anywhere else on my computer, my documents for example, and opening them from there works fine. I have the latest Adobe Reader. I can't find anyway to tell OE to open these attachments using Adobe Reader.
I am running a Windows XP SP2 with 768 Ram and a 2.66 GHz Pentium 4 CPU. I recently purchased a 20GB Maxtor OneTouch II USB hard drive and it came with Retrospect HD to back up my comptuer. The program will not do anyhting if i click setup so I can set it up to back up my computer. It also says ''updating status'' the whole time. Ihave left it at this screen for a long time and still nothing happened. I downloaded and installed the updrade for this from Maxtor's website, and it is still doign the same thing. Any suggestions on how to get this prgram working so I can back-up my computer?
If I use this to back-up my computer, and I use its restore feature, will I get problems on my computer that I currently have? (the main problem is with Windows Firewall, becuase i cannot enable it. My ocmptuer got infected a couple months ago and ever since is says it is controlled by Group Policy. For more detals on my problem click here I am using ZoneAlarm, but it will not work with my home network for sharing files and printers even though I have the IP address unblocked).
Going crazy trying to back up my Quicken 2004 files to CD-RW. The instructions for doing this from Intuit do not work. I have the latest patch which is release3. It claims that the built in CD burner program in XP will open if I click on file then backup. Nothing happens. Where is the built in Cd burner program? Dell was no help as was Quicken.
i have window xp working fine but i have problem that i cant see the hiddien files that i have made that no one can have acess to them but now when i check the option that show hidden file but when i exit the folder option it remain same file remain hidden. if some one know is it virus or some other problem.
Last night XP was just fine, and this morning at first boot up, the typical files appeared when there is a problem...win.com, DBluff,Himem and etc were either missing or corrupted....So no way to restore it, the recovery disk couldn't,so I had to reinstall it on another partition.I wanted to copy my AOL program over to the new partition from the C drive and its just not there...gone. How is this possible?
I can't open some .exe files. I'm trying to install some drivers on a pc with xp, but for some reason when I click on the setup.exe file, nothing happens, it doesn't open or run. I thought that the driver was corrupted, so I tried to install that same driver on another pc with xp and it worked. I tried to install something else to see if I would get the same problem, at first the little window showing all the files that are being stalled shows for a second or two, then it disapears, it doesn't complete the installation. I should get a message saying that the installation is complete, but I do not get the message and I don't get any error messages, it just does nothing, I've installed this same program succesfully in another pc with xp too, but on this one it won't install. Someone suggested me to update the ms installer and to update net frameworks to the latest version, I did what was suggested, but I still get the same problem. I'm sure i'ts not a virus or spyware because I just made a fresh install of xp and I haven't gone online with that pc and I haven't downloaded anything from the net, even before making the fresh install, I didn't have any viruses or spyware. It seems that for some reason I'm not able to install just certain programs, because I can open and run other .exe files with no problem.
I had a differ video card installed which helped my pc. But some idiots decided to reload another version of xp pro. They did not use any back up program to save my files and everything they did save (which was about 60%) they loaded on to drive c: then drive d. I used to have one hard drive partioned into two. They made one big drive c:. So now to see my files - I have to go to my computer, then c: then d:. Files are in no order- program files, etc.. all mixed up in one big list.Ok smy next problem...I thought I could fix this by using my back up disks before the above people got a hold of it, well the pc took all the back up disk great, but I forgot about the d: drive no longer being there - so the disks tell me half way thru that they cannot get rights or something to d - but they do give an option to skip - which I did.. it installed the other few disks and when it said it was done, i had to reboot and i did.So.. at the end.. It boots up - but when Windows comes up - it tells me <windowsroot>system32hal.dll. is missing and to reinstall it.How do I do this? My computer is old, but it is all I got right now and I can not afford to buy anything..I will write a second post here - with my system info
I woke up one day (hadn't installed anything in the meantime) and was unable to drag any icons or folders. My mouse won't "pick up" any of them, on my desktop or within a folder. I can drag program windows around, so I don't think it's an issue with my mouse. I thought maybe a recent Windows Update had messed it up, so I uninstalled the most recent one, but it didn't do anything.
Upon turning on the computer, we have been getting two different messages, not both at the same time. The first one was "can not find file ///cWINDOWS/System32/1KJddh8s.htm/" and the most recent "can not find file ///cWINDOWS/System32/4csuhtu0.html" What do these files do? How do we fix this?
