I had to do a repair on my Windows XP Pro system. When finished I went to Microsoft to check for updates and had them download. When the system tried to install the updates it fails at the Windows Update Installer V3.1. All other updates will now not install. What is my course of action to remedy this problem?

I loaded the disc to install drivers and the window is in Portuguese!I checked my regional language settings and it is in English. I even tried other discs to see whether that was the problem, it wasn't. This is the second disc I have received from HP and am unable to use the equipment due to this. I am running XP.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Dimension E510 running Windows XP Professional. It came with a trial version of Microsoft Office 2003. I don't want this program so I uninstalled it using the Add/Remove Programs. Once I did that, Microsoft Money wouldn't work and I was getting an error message everytime I started the computer - an error about missing a DLL. To correct this, I ran System Restore, which put back MS Office 2003, but the MS Money was now working and the DLL error message went away. The problem now....every time I open a new window, open a program or click on a new email message the Windows Installer window pops up with the message "preparing to install". If I click cancel, it takes a few seconds to cancel and everything is ok, or if I leave it alone, it hovers for about 20 or 30 seconds and goes away. It's extremely annoying.

Eventually I get a "server not responding" I have done it many times. I am fixing to try to build a website for our horses, and didn't know if java would have any effect doing that or not. so i went to msn and did the verify ( windows genuine advantage ) verification just to see if she has done it so we passed the test ,Its valid so no problem there .this is a dell machine >Dimension 5000< only a few months old, 3 at tops . she doesnt even use the net much . its a machine for picture editing .

When I try to open Microsoft Office Word 2003 a window pops up that says window installer then it says installing microsoft office word feature. It stops half way and another window pops up that says Installation error file not found. A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found. Original installation source required. If you installed Microsoft Office Standard edition 2003 from cd please insert your cd.

Also a window popped up that says Microsoft word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install application. I don't have the cd its lost. When i open any link with "open in new window" the new window is not full size screen window.Of course i dragged it by mouse many times and that should fix it later.It means it should be opened as it had been dragged,but that's never happened though i dragged it about a hundred time as a full screen size.What is the wrong here?

At the same time I noticed that microsoft automatic updates are getting to around 28 percent and then stopping - not fully downloading or installing. I cannot get through to any microsoft websites now - but all other sites are fine. wuauserv and bits are missing from services also. Have I been sneakily virused by something which MSE hasnt picked up. I tried to run malicious software removal tool - it downloads alright but wont install - says its not a valid win32 application. It has never been "installed."Windows update fails every time, of course, because it isn't now nor has it ever been installed.The biggest problem is that it keeps trying to apply the same updates over and over and over. It has a non- wireless connection to the internet via my LAN.Last week, the yellow update "shield" icon appeared in my systray and I updated Windows - the update was completed. Since then, the update shield icon has appeared in my systray four times. I installed the update each time, but it seems to have been the same update each time ("KB 967715").
