Failed Updates - Office 2003 - KB919029
Dec 20, 2006I have my XP Pro set up to alert me when there's updates so I can pick and choose the ones NOT to install, like IE7 for example! Anyhow, I let it download "junk email filter KB925254' and "update for office 2003, KB919029' both of which fail on the install with no explanation other than "Updates were unable to be successfully installed". I shut down that window and I immediately get the notification updates are ready to be dowloaded, tried shutting down my firewall which made no difference.

1)Security update for Excel Viewer 2003 (KB918425)
2)Security update for Office 2003 (KB917151)
I have checked 'Add and Remove' and they are not there. I am advised they are unable to be updated by the automatic update facility. I downloaded them manually, but that also failed to instal. Could someone help please as this has never happened before to me. The update is 2.3MB. I have 33GB free on C:/drive.
Trying To Reinstall Office 2003 On XP
Jun 18, 2010I uninstalled Office 2003 because I was having problems with Outlook. When I try to reinstall I get the message "The System Adminsitrator has set polcies to prevent this installation" I am running XP Professional and am the only user on this home computer. It is not on a network. I know this is an old problem, as I looked it up on Google. I did try to fix it by going to the local security policy and changing settings. This did not work. I am not familiar with "registries" and am hesitant to try anything in that area.

Jun 9, 2007I have a 40 GB HD on a 2005 Compaq Mobile celeron computer - always had about 20 GB free. Suddenly last month discoverd there was only 5 GB free. I looked on Control Panel Add Remove Pgms list and it shows only the original 4.5 GB trial MS 2003 Office which I have not opened and another 2 GB or so programs. I looked on all Drive C folders and it appease as 2-3 GB total. I looked on My Documents and less than 2 GB. I looked on desktop MS Word files I saved in special folders - onlyabout 3-4 GB Maximum.
All is within 1-2 GB or so that I had before. I did make more DVD copies with Nero Express on my external Sony DVD burner from my own originals of my own Stretching DVD's as i have done with same originals for over a year. Can not find any 2.8 GB or 5 GB files of the Videos anywhere that might have gotten recorded on HD.

Also a window popped up that says Microsoft word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install application. I don't have the cd its lost. May 9, 2007When I have Automatic Updates enabled, svchost uses 100% of the CPU. I disabled svchost and am able to use the computer.
With svchost disabled, I can not use Automatic Update. With it enabled, the computer freezes.
Is there a place to update Microsoft Office without having scvhost enabled?
PST Import / Get The PST File From Office 2003 To Import
Feb 24, 2007I thought that I would try Office XP Professional which I have. I also have Office 2003 Professional with which I have backed up the PST file in Outlook and uninstall the whole thing because I wanted to play with Office XP. So I install the XP version with all the toys, open Outlook and proceed to import the PST file and low and behold the PST file from 2003 is not compatible! Not a big deal, I can go back BUT! I would real like to get this to work. I also Downloaded SP3 for Office XP thinking that it would help but no… I also have Incredimail which has my address book and emails from Outlook 2003 so I created a CSV file and tried to import it but it couldn’t import it saying that it came from an unrecognizable source! I don’t get that… Can I get the PST file from Office 2003 to import?

I clicked on 'Find Solutions' and followed the instructions, which were, click 'Start', click 'Run', type 'services.msc.' then make sure Background Intelligent Transfer Service is on Automatic (not manual) and is 'started'. I did this and tried to re-install the failed updates. This worked, but only for the 5 most recent updates (otherwise there would have been 399 failed updates). Oct 26, 2009I just installed Windows XP Pro onto a band new drive. Installed the drivers and the antivirus. Next I went to get widows updates. I went to express because I was in a hurry. It installed service pack 2. Now it will not go into windows in any form. I have tried safe mode and regular mode. It gets to the XP loading screen in normal mode then reboots. In safe mode it runs through the list of files that it loads then reboots. Is my only way to reinstall windows?? Ihave had a fit to try to get into this machine. I hate to start from scratch again.

Dec 31, 2006I went through Microsoft Update to get the latest updates for a PC that only has SP1 installed (and was missing 50 Critical Updates to boot). After I installed the 50 CUs the next time I logged into Microsoft Update I was prompted to download SP2. Everything went well until the Registry backup portion of the SP2 installation routine.
About 6 registry entries couldn't be backed up. I ignored them and tried to proceed but SP2 eventually came to a stop where my only option was to choose 'OK' and it began to undo whatever changes it had done.
I shut down every startup item using CodeStuff's Starter prior to this update. There is no AV running or anything else. Microsoft Update didn't work originally so I reregistered a couple of .dlls

Apr 9, 2008I have Windows trying repeatedly to install 3 updates, KB948590, KB945553 & KB941693 and failing. It first tried through automatic updates and after a re-start I saw it again trying to download more updates. Thinking that this was strange I went into the Windows Update site, and after checking for critical updates it said I needed the above 3. I then had a look at the update history and it said it had just tried to install these 3 through automatic updates and failed. When I click on the "failed" icon as directed to find out what went wrong nothing happens.
Between the automatic update attempt and my manual windows update attempt I was prompted to download KB892130, the Windows Genuine Advantage Tool. This was successful. The sequence of this is below;

I'm running XP Home SP2 and IE7. I'm concerned that Windows on auto updates is going to waste some of my download quota by repeatedly attempting to download these updates without success. Jul 7, 2005After checking for win updates, I thought I would check the history of other updates. Much to my surprise, there were 6 updates, ALL from June 14, that had "FAILED". Some gave a page to go to for description, some did not. I have tried and tried to get these updates installed, but no success. These were the "critical updates" categories. Is there ANY way I can get the Microsoft to either send me to another address that would install them?

It seems they download just fine, but during 'initializing installation', the screen abruptly changes to a list of files that failed to install, which is all 77. I then attempted to shut down the computer and reboot. No change. I tried installing one at a time. No difference. I tried installing in numerical order. No change. There is no error message other than 'Some files failed to install'.
