MS 2003 Office Not Opened - Another 2 GB Or Programs
Jun 9, 2007
I have a 40 GB HD on a 2005 Compaq Mobile celeron computer - always had about 20 GB free. Suddenly last month discoverd there was only 5 GB free. I looked on Control Panel Add Remove Pgms list and it shows only the original 4.5 GB trial MS 2003 Office which I have not opened and another 2 GB or so programs. I looked on all Drive C folders and it appease as 2-3 GB total. I looked on My Documents and less than 2 GB. I looked on desktop MS Word files I saved in special folders - onlyabout 3-4 GB Maximum.
All is within 1-2 GB or so that I had before. I did make more DVD copies with Nero Express on my external Sony DVD burner from my own originals of my own Stretching DVD's as i have done with same originals for over a year. Can not find any 2.8 GB or 5 GB files of the Videos anywhere that might have gotten recorded on HD.
I uninstalled Office 2003 because I was having problems with Outlook. When I try to reinstall I get the message "The System Adminsitrator has set polcies to prevent this installation" I am running XP Professional and am the only user on this home computer. It is not on a network. I know this is an old problem, as I looked it up on Google. I did try to fix it by going to the local security policy and changing settings. This did not work. I am not familiar with "registries" and am hesitant to try anything in that area.

There is an untitled entry on my task bar. It appeared after I updated Microsoft Office 2003. It does not open anything. How can I get rid of it. I have restarted my PC.
I have my XP Pro set up to alert me when there's updates so I can pick and choose the ones NOT to install, like IE7 for example! Anyhow, I let it download "junk email filter KB925254' and "update for office 2003, KB919029' both of which fail on the install with no explanation other than "Updates were unable to be successfully installed". I shut down that window and I immediately get the notification updates are ready to be dowloaded, tried shutting down my firewall which made no difference.
I'm trying to setup a batch file that executes the Office 2003 Standard installation when a user logs in for the first time. how I can automate the insertion of the product key without any user interaction?

I have Microsoft Office 2003 on my computer. When I run disk cleanup, under the files to delete it lists Office Setup Files. I never want to delete these files. So my question is, how do I get this option for deleting these files out of disk cleanup so it doesn't check these files every time I open the program.
I had this computer for a year or so and about month ago,the little boxes on the blue taskbar at the bottom of the screen stopped showing up I can still open the windows with the ctrl alt delete command to open the task manager, but theres no way to switch between two open windows without that.
When I try to open Microsoft Office Word 2003 a window pops up that says window installer then it says installing microsoft office word feature. It stops half way and another window pops up that says Installation error file not found. A required installation file SKU112.CAB could not be found. Original installation source required. If you installed Microsoft Office Standard edition 2003 from cd please insert your cd.
If you installed Microsoft office standard edition 2003 over your computer network please browse to the installation source on your computer. Also a window popped up that says Microsoft word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install application. I don't have the cd its lost. This just started doing this about a month ago. I can't open any files through microsoft office word or power point.
I thought that I would try Office XP Professional which I have. I also have Office 2003 Professional with which I have backed up the PST file in Outlook and uninstall the whole thing because I wanted to play with Office XP. So I install the XP version with all the toys, open Outlook and proceed to import the PST file and low and behold the PST file from 2003 is not compatible! Not a big deal, I can go back BUT! I would real like to get this to work. I also Downloaded SP3 for Office XP thinking that it would help but no… I also have Incredimail which has my address book and emails from Outlook 2003 so I created a CSV file and tried to import it but it couldn’t import it saying that it came from an unrecognizable source! I don’t get that… Can I get the PST file from Office 2003 to import?
looking on ebay for a new copy of microsoft office. I have been seeing these offers for these other programs from other countries that are supposed to be very much like microsoft office. They are very inexpensive but claim to do the same things and even import and export the same files as MS office. What I am asking is are these things illegal? Do they really work?

I tried downloading the newest version of the installer, but that didn't do anything.I get a couple errors.Error 1721 and this:This Installation package could not be opened.Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer Package. One of the programs is ITunes, straight from the Apple website.
I have tried to find a way to fix this, but have been unsuccessful. This happens on various programs, so I know it's just a certain thing that I am trying to install. This is the error:This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer Package.
I'm using windows XP and if I'm in an application (ie outlook express checking email, and I click on a URL, Windows thinks the URL is a file and wants me to associate an application with the URL. However, if I check my email using a browser (web based) the URL will open a new tab

Where does Windows store information about where which of my two monitors, where on the screen a program should be opened? I have a program that should remember where I want it to open but doesn't, and I'm trying to figure out how to reset Windows' memory of this so I can retrain it, as it were. I've already tried everything short of reinstalling. I'm assuming that this involves tinkering with the registry, and I'm quite comfortable with that have done it plenty before, just need a road map.
