When I have Automatic Updates enabled, svchost uses 100% of the CPU. I disabled svchost and am able to use the computer.
With svchost disabled, I can not use Automatic Update. With it enabled, the computer freezes.
Is there a place to update Microsoft Office without having scvhost enabled?
So earlier I was installing a update for my MS Office and one of them was Office XP Service Pack 3 and during the installation, my computer crashed so I had to reboot and when I logged back into Windows, the updates came up again. I installed them fine and then afterwards when I tried starting up Microsoft Word, it gave me an error and says ''Error 2771. An internal error has occurred. I have my computer set to receive Automatic Microsoft Updates. My computer recently changed when I start up my computer by pushing the start botton it would boot up and show my selected background screen and then I could click on my ISP Icon on my desktop to go online. My problem is when I now push the computer start botton my computer boots up but then shows a blue background screen with My Name and NO password which I never supplied, but I have to click O K and then it brings up my selected background screen to enable to
click on my ISP Icon to go online. I have went into User Accounts and have found NO WAY to remove my Name. I have recently set my computer up to go on my DSL online automatically and it won't until I click O K on the user box.

I tried using third party shut down programs, but that did not help. However if I let the computer go into hibernate, it shuts down and does not restart. I do not have Roxio installed, and in the settings for startup and recovery the automatic restart is disabled.

Well i only have one user, never had another user created until recently (temporary fix) is there anything i can do, the main user is called the owner, it says its the computer admin, but i guess there is still an admin user, i cant get to that. the only way i can get ms office to work was to create a new user, open all the office programs, export the office registry, and import it to my main user, thats the only thing that works, for a little bit.

Does anyone have an opinion on how important it is to get these updates or am I just as well off not receiving them? I currently have Windows XP Professional on a HP Pavillion .542 Right now when i start up it goes past the thing where is shows the microsoft logo and then my screen goes blank. I restarted my computer and came up with a Windows Installer problem that I couldn't clear with Windows Installer cleanup or an upgrade to Windows Installer 4.5 (?). I could access the Internet, but not my email on Outlook 3.I decided to do a full reload of Windows XP Pro on the laptop. That apparently went well, but now I cannnot connect to the Internet (Windows Firewall is disabled).
