Uncompressing Email Folders

Sep 29, 2006

The wife was reading her email when a window came up asking if she wanted to Compress the email folders to save space on the drive. She clicked yes, and now I have no past email other than todays. Any way to uncompress the folders and reinstate my email? The storage location is NOT on C drive, but on L drive which is a common drive for multiple O/S booting. The folders still show to be in the 795MB total, but now only contain a few messages. I do not include L drive in system restore for the simple reason W2000 doesn't have system restore, which is one of my operating systems. Dummy here didn't think to run a Acronis True Image backup of "L"!

Unable To Open Your Default Email Folders

Jul 20, 2005

As an fyi ... I'm on Windows XP and email through MS Office Outlook. My computer was working fine until we suffered 2 power surges within minutes of each other today. The tv, stereo, phone & fax are fine. My computer powers on and the first error message appears: winlogon.exe - unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because sfc_os.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Next, I try to go into 1 of 3 email accounts. First error message here:

Norton Runs Clean - Lost Email Folders

Feb 11, 2006

I have a Compaq laptop on XP that is up to date. Norton runs clean. I believe my modem is going bad because whenever Im on the internet and minimize IE the computer locks up. In about five minutes it starts running and all the things I clicked on while it was locked up appear, as if they were all running in the background. The pc works fine if Im not using the modem. Im on vacation and have other modems at home. Several times I held the power button down when it was hung up. One of those times I lost my profile so that when it starts up it cant find local settings and it has to build a temp profile. I built another profile but all of my old Outlook folders are missing. Ive done multiple searches for *.pst but cant find them, even looking in hidden files. Ive found an old pst file that I made as a backup last year but when I try to load it into my new profile/ user it says I dont have permission to access these files. The new user I built is set as administrator. I tried moving a copy from the cd to my user but then it asked for a password which I never set. Here are my questions,

1)Is there any way to find the folders in my old Outlook?
2)Is there a way to change the permission on the old pst file on my backup cd? I tried finding it in the registry after I moved it to my user but was unable to?
3)Scanpst.exe needs a pst file to work on which I cant find.
4)Ive reloaded the driver for the modem but that didnt help. Any thoughts?
5)When you archive the mail where is it kept? I did this last week.

(About 1200 mp3 files all inside these 100 folders...all inside 1 folder if that makes any sense)I'm thinking about moving all those mp3's outside there folders so that i have just one continuous stream of mp3's. Basically i want just my mp3's inside the main folder without their individual artist folder.

I have been getting some very nice emails on Yahoo mail. They are supposed to have sound. I have sound on everything else on my computer. I have Windows XP Pro installed. I also have Stopzilla, Spyware Blaster, and Spybot. Would the problem have something to do with one of the blockers? And if so, how do I fix it? You can tell everyone that uses the computer does not like popupads. And we surely don't want to be infected with viruses and all that other bad stuff.

Check that your internet connection is active and your firewall showings are adjusted to allow Photo Show access to the internet." I have tried everything they have suggested, except the last one...MSCONFIG, then to click on start up and look more closely at the software running on your computer that may affect internet access, but I'm afraid to do that, because it might affect my computer's vulnerability.

Outlook Email Recovery

Sep 1, 2009

Since Outlook is no longer available, I need an alternative email client. I can't install Windows Live since I'm using XP. I do have Microsoft's Office Outlook, but I can't get it to work. I followed the instructions word for word from Microsoft, but it's just a no-go.When I had Outlook, I would move the emails I wanted to keep in folders I created under the Local Folders. I must have 1 000's of emails backed up. I want to go through them and delete what I don't want/need anymore, but can't because

1. I never got the Import Messages working in Outlook [it keeps telling me that the program is in use and therefore can't import

2. Outlook no longer works anyway and

3. although I downloaded Thunderbird, it won't even put in the folders I created while actually logged into Hotmail [not even the Sent or Junk folders that are there by default], let alone the ones I created in the Local Folder in Outlook.

A lot of the emails I've saved I really need. They're ones sent to me after signing up with a forum or site and have my username and password in them. How can I recover these emails so that I can forward them to an email account so that I can not only view them and copy out all the usernames and passwords, but also so I can delete the ones I no longer need?I'm running Windows XP Home Edition and Outlook Express is 6.00.2900.2180.

Email Program Slow

Feb 18, 2006

I posted the following awhile ago, and got some good results for the problem I was having drilling down through directories.I have an Emachine with a 330 Celeron D, 1gb ddr sdram (installed thinking it would help), 80gb hard drive, NAV, Spysweeper, XP Home edition. I am using Outlook 2003.I still have the problem of my email program being really slow. Not server access, but the program, and I think really the computer itself. It seems like it is always thinking, catching up. When in my inbox (or any folder) and I am moving from one email to the next, initially I might be able to move, but then it freezes for about 10 - 25 seconds until I can move again. It might allow me to move for awhile, but it will happen again. I waste so much time in a day waiting while moving through emails.I don't really see this behavior in other areas of the computer. Any ideas?
