I posted the following awhile ago, and got some good results for the problem I was having drilling down through directories.I have an Emachine with a 330 Celeron D, 1gb ddr sdram (installed thinking it would help), 80gb hard drive, NAV, Spysweeper, XP Home edition. I am using Outlook 2003.I still have the problem of my email program being really slow. Not server access, but the program, and I think really the computer itself. It seems like it is always thinking, catching up. When in my inbox (or any folder) and I am moving from one email to the next, initially I might be able to move, but then it freezes for about 10 - 25 seconds until I can move again. It might allow me to move for awhile, but it will happen again. I waste so much time in a day waiting while moving through emails.I don't really see this behavior in other areas of the computer. Any ideas?
I have a problem with setting OE6 as my default email program in IE after I installed Office 97. Since I really wanted to use OE6, I uninstalled Outlook. Now my OE6 works okay with my dial-up internet access. No problems with sending and receiving emails, but I cannot set it to be the default email handler using the Tool->Options popup window. And I also found that in IE, Tools-> Internet Options popup -> Programs tab, there is no choices for the Email field. This problem has caused me to be unable to click on email addresses of people on the webpages and other problems with 3rd party softwares.
A few days ago, someone apparently hacked into my wife's Yahoo email account and sent out a bunch of bogus emails to people in her address book, including myself. The email contained a link. Since she sometimes sends me stuff to check out, I made the supreme mistake of clicking on it. It took me to some pharmaceutical site and I knew it was bogus and clicked out immediately. But the damage seems to have been done.
We have a Dell Dimension 2400 with Windows XP installed. We also have Norton Internet Security 2007, Windows Defender, and do not seem to have any viruses or spyware. Out hard drive is just under half full (17.5 GB of 37.2 GB).takes 5 or 6 minutes from the time we turn on the computer until we can actually do something with it (connect to the internet with IE or check email with Outlook 2003). I uninstalled Google Desktop and turned off Windows Messenger (from the start menu), both of which helped some (used to be even slower). I have tried to uninstall Dell Alert (which starts every time) but am unable to with Uninstall Programs and cannot find DAMon.exe to just delete that. Once it is up and running, the PC is reasonably fast (the problem is just at the startup and first 5 to 10 minutes). I have a newer laptop I use on our wireless network and it connects very quickly to the internet so that is not the problem (as far as I can tell). We did recently switch from a cable modem to slightly slower DSL.
I just got a new computer with WinXPHome. All works OK except I can not receive my email into OE 6, all email stays with AT&T's Webmail, which I do not want to use. My old Win98 computer has no problems with getting my email. The settings on both computers are the same. I have disabled NAV email scanning. I have no idea what to do. I like OE, and want to continue using it.
It's running like molasses in January. I've run Spybot, Advanced Care, AVG and defragged. It was better for about 10 minutes and that was it. Slow to load any program, internet is slow, a girl could get old here trying to get work done.
How can I improve the startup speed pf Windows as it takes forever and a day to start and to access any programmes. I have run defragmenter but report tells me defragmenting not required.
my work colleagues is having trouble with a slow-running computer i thought I'd look at her startup options and make sure there isn't something running that doesn't need to be. I ran msconfig and looked at what she had going at startup, but only the necessary items were checked there. So I took a look at the services panel, using a list from blackviper.com to make sure her computer's settings matched up with those recommendation. However, one of the services listed isn't on the blackviper.com list: Winkcpw. Nor did I get any hits for the name of the service on either Google or using Yahoo search. I'm wondering if anyone here knows what the program is and whether it should be running at all.
My computer seems to be really slow when i open and close boxes - they overlap or i get the message 'This programme is not responding' what does this mean and what can i do?
My emachine is running so slow that you have to wait for the START key to respond! I ran adaware and spybot, they found data miners, ad programs etc. I also renewed the mcaffe program lately which has caused additional slowdown
Lately my computer has been extremely slow, not just internet slow but onboard slow. For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I've looked in the task manager and the applications column will be blank
I was just at a site where i wanted to enter a competition, and therefore had to send an email.I clicked on the 'send email' link, i received this message: you need to create an account before proceeding, would you like to create one now?'I clicked on 'yes' and was asked, 'what type of account would you like to create?' the choices being: regular email[pop]IMAP,news, import email opera web email[ i use the opera browser. The only one of those that i understand is the opera choice, so i clicked on that. That took me to my opera email account, i thought, fine.however, there was no sign of the email address that i need to be able to send them a message.now i'm sure you've come across this yourselves, it crops up for me every so often, when it does, it puts me off whatever i was trying to do, and i give up.what should i do? what does regular email[pop] mean?should i click on these other choices?why, when i click opera, am i not given the email address?
I don't have a clue to where to respond to a email i got from a asmin cookiegal? I got a email saying i better watch out or i'll be banned from the forum.I didn't mean to insult anyone but a post i recieved was not very kind either so maybe i over reacted. As for me asking about why i would be banned from ANOTHER forum not this one cookiegal said forums don't ban people for no reason well, they did for me and the one that got be banned was a friend of one of the mods! on drphil.com
I have been getting some very nice emails on Yahoo mail. They are supposed to have sound. I have sound on everything else on my computer. I have Windows XP Pro installed. I also have Stopzilla, Spyware Blaster, and Spybot. Would the problem have something to do with one of the blockers? And if so, how do I fix it? You can tell everyone that uses the computer does not like popupads. And we surely don't want to be infected with viruses and all that other bad stuff.
I want to set up another email account for my mother in law on my wife's computer. I have 8 addresses so that is not an issue. I am just wondering if I should set up an additional profile on her Windows XP Home computer or if there is someway to use the same outlook express? I want it to be a clean and easy as possible.
I have a laptop and a PC that share one email address through Outlook. Is there a way to answer or file, or delete received emails on one computer and have that action done on the other computer? I end up having to repeat the deletions, especially, twice --- once on each computer.
I'm useing windows XP professional. I mistakenly downloaded a virus through my email. i found the virus and deleted it. i'm not sure if the virus is the cause of my problem but i can no longer print from my email or off the internet. The printer is a HP officejet 6110 all-in-one.
I use Windows XP, and using the Photo Show 5, whenever I want to email or make a DVD out of one of the shows, I get the following message:"We are unable to communicate with Photo Show online at this time. Check that your internet connection is active and your firewall showings are adjusted to allow Photo Show access to the internet." I have tried everything they have suggested, except the last one...MSCONFIG, then to click on start up and look more closely at the software running on your computer that may affect internet access, but I'm afraid to do that, because it might affect my computer's vulnerability.
