Dec 28, 2005Unable to access the import and export options in the file menu of the address book and not sure if this makes any difference.

New Install: Import Identity, Settings, Address Book
May 6, 2010I keep my OS and data on separate drives, so all of my emails are still there, my account settings and address book should be as well. Importing everything into the new install of Firefox was a piece of cake. Everything, even the last sites I had open, imported without any issues. Outlook Express is proving more ... annoying. Microsoft's support site explains how to create new profiles, switch between those new profiles... none of which I need to do. I need to import my old Identity, from my data drive, into Outlook Express 6. I don't mean import the messages (there's not even room for them on the new partition), I just need to link the existing identity on the data drive to the new XP / Outlook Express installation.

Apr 18, 2006Recently, my windows address book (Documents & Settings/User/Apps/Microsoft/Address Book) has stopped working on my Windows XP SP2 desktop. The *.wab file is in the proper place and is of the right size but when I open it using Outlook Express or simply by clicking on the file itself, it opens empty and, at the same time, creates a new file name in the Address Book folder which uses the first 6 letters of the actual file name. On this same computer, with another address book, this shortened file name does not appear and the address file opens properly. It only occurs with one particular address book file.
Assuming the *.wab file was corrupted, I copied in a backup file to replace the corrupted address book file. The backup was made at a time when the address book was working properly. Unfortunately, the backup file demonstrated the same behavior, opening empty and showing the shortened file name.I then copied the original address book and the backup copy to another computer and found they both opened empty and both created the 2nd file name. On that same computer, other address book files open properly.At this point, an address book file, from my backup, which was working fine at the time the backup was made now fails and does so on two different computers.Other address book files open normally on both computers.I am at a loss and do not know how to recover the contents of the original address file.
Outlook Address Book - Re-install Everything
Apr 7, 2008Recently my computer crashed and I had to re-install everything. I imported my contacts back into outlook but now when I click on the To: or the address book I get a message. However when I click on the contacts on the left side they are all showing.

Feb 24, 2007I thought that I would try Office XP Professional which I have. I also have Office 2003 Professional with which I have backed up the PST file in Outlook and uninstall the whole thing because I wanted to play with Office XP. So I install the XP version with all the toys, open Outlook and proceed to import the PST file and low and behold the PST file from 2003 is not compatible! Not a big deal, I can go back BUT! I would real like to get this to work. I also Downloaded SP3 for Office XP thinking that it would help but no… I also have Incredimail which has my address book and emails from Outlook 2003 so I created a CSV file and tried to import it but it couldn’t import it saying that it came from an unrecognizable source! Apr 2, 2007Windows 2000 (SP4) O/S.The machine will temporarily get an IP addres and then it will drop off.I have run ipconfig and been shown all 0's and then unplug then teplug the cable and get an IP address, but when I go to get on line or open a network drive it fails. I then go back and ipconfig again and it is back to 0's.
I have swapped out the network cables and the user is on a new machine than previously used and is stil experiencing the same problem.When I do an ipconfig /renew it faisl with a DHCP Serer Unreachable error.

Jan 22, 2008I am using toad for oracle development. Whenever i perform any operation in toad, it goes to an ip address to resolve the database server name. That IP address was previously used as our dns server but no more exists in our network. I flushed by dns using ipconfig /flushdns commad but unable to get ride of this IP address. Also I have reinstalled my oracle client and toad but that IP address is alwayes there.
Can any body suggest me some way to find out where this entry exist in windows DNS setting.
Unable To Open Web Address Or Hyperlink In Microsoft Outlook
Oct 8, 2008I am unable to open any hyperlink or any website that is contained in my microsoft outlook email.I get the following error messages.
"Windows cannot open this file. Windows needs to know what program created it"
It gives me two choices: 1. use the web to find the program that created it or 2. select from a list. None of these options work. I hope that someone can help solve this problem as I am now unable to open any link or web contained in the email.

Aug 27, 2005I have been using Outlook for quite a while now and have always exported to a CVS or Excel file when backing up. It's not bad, but viewing e-mail on a spreadsheet and losing all the attached files is not the best solution.Are there any good solutions out there? I have a "Save Mail" folder I'd like to back up every so often and be able to search and read through it. Even if it exports all the e-mails into one long document, or PDF, that would be great. Ideally I would like to save the attachments too but that is less critical.I believe Outlook stores in mbox format? So maybe a tool that works with that. Or with Outlook's archive format. Anyway...just looking for a good way to export all my emails to a normal readable file.

When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange.

Export File List In Same Order As Thumbnails?
May 26, 2008When viewing files as thumbnails in Explorer I can manually rearrange them by simply dragging and dropping. Now they are not in any particular logical order (that is, not by Name or Date Created, etc.), *but* they are in the order I want them. And even when I close and reopen Explorer, as long as I stay in Thumbnails "mode" the files remain in the order I manually placed them.
Now here's the challenge: I have been unable to find a way to export a list of these files *in the order I put them*. There are lots of utilities (even the good old DOS DIR command) that make it possible to list files in various sort orders, but none that I have found that will list the files in the order I put their thumbnails.

But after that the address bar disappeared. I closed the window and restart the machine and opened the internet explorer, but still address bar is missing. Oct 12, 2006We have run across a problem here with APIPA addressing. After we install Windows updates, Windows assigns an APIPA address in the 169.254.x.x range, instead of getting an address from the DHCP server. The effect is that the computer loses connectivity with the network and the Internet. You can confirm this problem by running an IPCONFIG and checking for an address in the 169.254 range.
Releasing and renewing the address does not correct the problem. Assigning a static IP address resolved the issue. Searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, we found a registry hack that will disable APIPA addressing on the computer, and this does correct the problem so the computer can connect to the network again. We assume that the problem is a result of an update from last Tuesday, but we have not determined which update is the problem. We are still looking. Our concern is that as DHCP leases expire with computers in the field, that this effect may appear. If you get calls for loss of network or Internet connectivity, have the user run IPCONFIG, and if they have an APIPA address, the registry hack is outlined in KB article

Sep 19, 2005I intalled Stripe RAID array with (2) WD 74GB Raptors which show up as C. I have a 200GB SATA HDD that was used as backup HDD in same system with previous PATA RAID array. With first XP PRO install I was able to import foreign disk with no problems and data on 200Gb was intact when I connected 200GB drive after updating XP. Because of driver problems on installation, I had to reinstall XP PRO and this time had all drives connected throughout installation. XP saw RAID and 200Gb and i installed XP on RAID array. When I try to import foreign dynamic disk this time it gives me an error," The operation did not complete. Check system log." Log : Error source is LDM. I checked and all sevices are running. 200Gb HDD is in BIOS and in device manager.
