Two Icons On Quicklaunch
Jun 19, 2005I have two IE icons on my Quick LaunchThey have different property pages.I don't mean different values - the pages are different format.

Quicklaunch Icons Stop Showing Labels
Sep 27, 2010I noticed this morning that all my Quicklaunch icons had stopped showing labels.. restart fixed the prob, but only temporarily. Is there a fix that will save me the bother of frequent restarts?
Using GPO And / Or Unattend.txt To Activate Quicklaunch?
Sep 14, 2005Is it possible to activate quicklaunch on Windows XP through GPO or unattend.txt? If not, is there any other way to do this without editing the registry as explained in previous posts here?

Mar 15, 2005I installed America OnLine's new V9 "Security Edition", which has its own toolbar (called a deskbar). It comes with a warning that sometimes it makes the Windows XP Toolbars disappear.It also has a procedure for how to fix that by uninstalling the AOL Deskbar (which didn't work for me).Overall this AOL version was problematic so I uninstalled it and went back to regular AOL V9 which works fine (but I haven't been able to get the XP toobars thing fixed).I can enable the QuickLaunch Toolbar the normal way (right click on the taskbar, then Toolbars, Quicklaunch) and I also did it by right clicking Start then Taskbar then Properties and clicking the checkbox telling it to show the quicklaunch, but it never stays enabled when I reboot.

Nov 27, 2006I'm running it on a wireless D-Link home network. I've tried to set it up running the desktop toolbar and the quicklaunch toolbar but everytime I reboot or just start up the computer those toolbars are missing. I've locked the quicklaunch toolbar and that doesn't help.

Mar 30, 2005I started my computer today and all of the icons pointing to Microsoft Office files, Adobe Acrobat files, and similar files have been replaced by generic windows icons (white icon with little window in the middle) they are no longer program specific icons.Yes, I have tried TweakUI to rebuild the icons and it did nothing, I have tried increasing then decreasing the size of the icons to attempt to force windows to replace them with the correct icons and that has not worked either. I have also tried to use system restore and that did not help either.This is really making me angry and I don't understand why it happened I have searched everywhere for a solution and found nothing.

Dec 18, 2005After a malware infection (Inet2 and SpySherriff - which took over my desktop) I cleaned up some files, directories and registry-entries. Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. The right-mouse click on the desktop also doesn't work (although the desktopsettings are accessible through the control panel). I use WinXP pro. what is wrong and how do I get the icons back on the screen?

Furthermore, when I do click on the C or D drive, it directs me to file search. Jan 8, 2006I wated to modify my permissions on multiple drives at once. i selected them all in my computer, and right clicked and went to properties. I then went to the security tab and windows came up with box saying "Do yu want to reset the permissions on all you're drives" and i clicked yes (big mistake) after a few minsit finished so i came out and my background has disaperred and all the icons. So basicly windows is denied access to all my drives.

Sep 28, 2008I came home last night and got back on my laptop. When I turned it on some message came on after I put in my password, something about programs, then my screen came up with all my icons. My background pic that I had was gone, it was now Gateway, (like it reset itself), so I went into my pictures to reset it and all my Pictures, documents, etc are gone. I have no idea how to retrieve them. I did a full virus scan, and there is no viruses, etc on it, so can anyone please tell me whats going on? Another thing that I noticed is everytime I turn my laptop off, and turn it back on, everything I did as far as changing my homepage is gone as well, even all the sites I just visited,like it keeps resetting. Someone replied with a link that gave me some things to do, but none of it worked. I did system restore and it said nothing has been changed, I tried doing new user account but nothing is transferring to it.I have no idea how to retrieve these files. All the icons are there, but everything is gone from them.

May 9, 2008I'm sorry for posting so many questions here. But my Windows XP operating sytem isn't displaying icons when I download new items. Instead I have to right click > properties > change icon > OK. Instead of automatically installing the icon, it shows this:on the desktop. It displayed a similar image for virtually everything in the start menu too. This meant I had to install every single icon in the start bar menu manually! What is causing this? How can I fix it so it automatically displays icons for newly installed items?
