TrueImage Cannot Create Recovery CD
Aug 24, 2005
After installing TrueImage 8.0 I tried to create some recovery floppies and a CD Creating the floppies was no problem. However when I inserted a new ReWritable CD
TrueImage requested me to insert an empty CD into my CD burning drive. But: I already inserted an EMPTY medium. Even when I erase all (not existing) content and tried the operation againTrueImage told me the same. Changing to another empty RW-CD yields no success. It seems to me that TrueImage needs a preparation of the CD before putting the ecovery files on it.

I have just installed Win XP and all the drivers needed for the hardware to work plus a few games etc. Now I wonder if there is a way to make a recovery cd of all this information so I can use that CD/DVD instead of my Win xp CD if I need to reinstall the system again.

Hoping to avoid a full reinstall of Windows XP, I'd like to try some repair procedures. The problem is, when I launch my "Vaio PCV-RS430G" recovery disc it goes straight to Sony's proprietary recovery interface which provides ONLY the preset option to wipe my 'c' drive and reinstall Windows. According to some MS articles I've read, an XP recovery disc should allow me to access the Windows Recovery Console (by typing "R" at the welcome screen). Can anyone suggest how I can bypass the Sony recovery and get to the Windows Recovery Console?

I need to do a System Recovery to restore my system back to its factory settings (I'm using WinXP Home). When I hit F10 upon startup in order to access the system recovery, nothing happens- it boots as it would regularly. I was able to boot up using the CD, and am now in the System Recovery console. Might anyone tell me what I need to do to perform a non-destructive, or even a destrucitve system recovery?

My question is regarding the recovery console available on Compaq machines. Is there a similar program to the Compaq recovery console that allows for the home user to install and back up their systems in a nearly identical manner as to how to Compaq R.C. works?

I'm running Windows XP SP3 with everything up to date as far as I know. I have the complete set of my PC's OEM Disks that I've used once when my OS was completely messed up, had Geeks Rescue out and they couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I know what they are for. What I'm not understanding are the several tools I'm afraid to open listed in my "Start"/"All Programs" I have both "Compaq"/"Compaq Presario PC Tools" with "Compaq Application Recovery"/"Compaq Recovery CD-DVD Creator"/"Compaq Recovery Tools CD"/"Compaq Support Information"/"Compaq System Recovery"/"Remote Assistance"/"Safety and Comfort Guide"

I work at a Job Corps Center where we have three clerical trade shops loaded with Windows XP computers. We need to install a retriction that will create an Administrator Password that can not be deleted by simply logging into safe mode. Also, we need to make it impossible for the students to create their own accounts with their own passwords. Right now the teachers are having a hard time, because several knuckleheads keep making a mess by changing the instructor's passwords and creating their own unique ones. How can we create those restrictions?

I need to do a clean install of Windows XP on a system that previously ran Windows 2000. I deleted the partition via the Windows Install/Setup menu, but when the PC boots, it lists Windows 2K as one of the startup/OS options. I need to be able to do an /fdisk on the whole drive and start from scratch. Unfortunately, I only have a basic Windows XP installation CD - and if there's a way to get to a prompt and do it from there, I can't remember. Could anyone direct me to a bootable CD that will allow me to /fdisk and delete and create partitions? I need something quick and fast. I'm not permitted to download or install anything without permission and my boss is out of town until Thursday. He may call in tomorrow (or he may not). So please, don't point me to Bart's PE or anything that requires installing an .ISO burner. I need to be able to do this with the tools that Windows XP, SP 2 native. These are laptops I'm working with and they do not have floppy drives, so I cannot use floppy disks.

Under Computer Management, all I see is the C drive and the CD-Rom drive. I was trying to follow Microsoft's directions to create another drive (where I want to just store documents, pictures and music). The instructions say I am supposed to right-click on unallocated space on the C drive and then I should get some kind of partition wizard.but I have tried right-clicking everywhere!

I have just done a fresh install of XP Home on one of my computers and had quite a bit of trouble getting some drivers. Prior to doing anything else with that computer I would like to do a backup ( preferably complete ) on to a DVD(s) that will simplify an instillation if I ever end up having to reformat. If something happens down the road I would just like to install XP and then use my backup to restore it to what I have today. Any suggestions on how I should go about it and what software, free would be nice, that will allow me to do this? I hope I made myself clear as to my intentions.

it's not about changing pagefile size or moving it - all of a sudden I can't create it on my machine.
2 HD (plenty of space one each) Win XP SP3, Athlon xp2400 - 2 gig RAM.Did all the appropriate things like defrag and set all the permissions of the admin and users in Safe Mode.Doesn't matter which of the 2 drives I select, doesn't matter what size or even system managed - allocated memory is always 0. Every reboot the error 'you have no pagefile or it's too small' still comes up.I tried to use Recovery Console from my CD - but I get the message your version of Windows (SP3) is newer than the version on the CD - you will overwrite it if you re-install. So I cancel out.

I've been fiddling with my computer lately because it has lots of issues, and I came across yet another one. When I open up a folder and right click > New > Briefcase, I get this:[pop-up #1]Windows cannot ind 'C:WINDOWSsystem32, undll32.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Search button, and then click Search.[pop-up #2, once I click "OK" in pop-up #1]. Unable to create the file 'New Briefcase'File system error (16389). Also when I start up my computer, I get a message identical to pop-up #1, except the file is "1". Just the number 1. It seems to be harmless though. As far as I know, the .com extension is unusual. Could it be malware/spyware?

How does one create one's own, legitimate Windows XP CD from the files on one's computer? For example, if you own a legitimate, Authentic copy of Windows XP, but the disk becomes damaged or lost, what does one do, short of buying a retail replacement disk? The computer has "I386" folders, but none of them, nor any cabs, contain files such as filename.*
