I have a new computer that is 3 months old. Everything has been wonderful and tonight when I logged on I cannot get my Internet server to move. It is total slow motion. I did a spyware check, virus scan and nothing surfaced. At one time I could not even change my homepage from Yahoo to MSN. Now it takes forever to flip a page.
View 3 RepliesMy computer has gotten where it quits responding almost everytime it changes to another page. Almost nothing will open for awhile, and I will have to power it off, and re-boot it to get anything, then it may be okay for a little while. I really am new to this, and don't have the first idea what I need to do. It has been running slower and slower for a month or so, and now will almost do nothing sometimes. It is about a year and a half old, my son and I share it, and we both go online regularly, but don't really download much. I have recently installed Norton 2009, and that seems to be when it got the worst.

It was taking 20 to 30 seconds to open a word document. But that was the only trouble for a while.I am running Windows XP.I installed, then un-installed SP2 about a month ago. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been having this problem for past 2-3 days and this is very very random. At times, my laptop would just go on a really slow motion mode where even switching windows or typing a word would take seconds / minutes and it would be fine after a few minutes. This has happened several times and I have tried to keep an eye on which program could be causing it and narrowed it down to Firefox, MSN Messenger or uTorrent because they were running at every time this problem occurred. In fact, once i forcibly closed Firefox and computer was fine. But at different times of when this occurred, either or none of those problems were running so those processes could be ruled out. When i checked Task manager, 'CPU Usage' was shot up to 100% but under 'Processes' none of the programs were hogging down the computer.
I ran Ad-Aware and Spy Sweeper and none came up with any suspicious/malicious threats. Ad-Watch was kinda slowing down my computer so i thought that could have been it but this has occurred several times after Ad-Aware's uninstallation. I have also ran a virus check and nothing came up. :s The weirdest thing is that if i forcefully shut down the computer and restart.. it still starts off in a really really slow motion mode so the slow effect somehow still carries on after computer's shutdown. I ran HijackThis and ran auto-analyzer but that came up with nothing either.
I would appreciate any input or any ideas towards solutions anyone may have.. this is getting really annoying even though i have been very patient. I am running Windows XP on a HP Tablet and all my windows update/security/anti-virus are up-to-date. I haven't installed any program in past 2-3 days except Ad-Aware and Spy Sweeper and i am never prompted for any pop-ups or anything, so being online or offline doesn't make a difference, it seems. Oh and the only processes on top of 'Mem Usage' in Task Manager are usually McAfee Service and Task Manager itself (after firefox's termination).
I've recently reistnalled XP and I'm experiencing weird problems when moving windows on the screen, or scrolling, everything is in slow motion.I can't play movies on full screen, and some games are poor in rendering. I have tried all the possible optimizations, but I believe the problem might be in the video card, when I tried to reinstall the video driver, I was told that the video card is not installed properly, but how could this be? I mean, I haven't touched the hardware, what am I supposed to do?

I went to defrag and the Bar was solid red. Windows defrag won't touch it so I tried installing Diskeeper's new 2007 version only to find out it wasn't compatable with 2000 server. Anyone know of a good program that will work on 2000 server? Thanks
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have enabled ftp server on my windows 2000 server/ISA Server.Our internet connection is ADSL with US robotics router running. I configured the ISA Server to allow the ftp requests. I tested the connection using web browser as well as cute ftp and I have no problem in connecting by entering static IP Address from web browser and cute ftp.
The objective for ftp server is to share files with our clients. Now the problem is i can connect by entering my static ip address but not the internal domain name of my windows 2000 server which is tecnoserve.dxb. I dont want to give my clients our Static ip address to connect our ftp server.
Okay I have a IBM e-server running Server 2003 SP2 and I rebooted the system after an AVG Server edition update required a reboot. The system booted up fine, My remote offices can connect through terminal services just fine, I can ping websites, I can Ping my ip, dns, etc. But I cannot access the internet from the server through internet explorer. I rebooted the server again and the same problem still persist. I even disabled the web filters in my Linksys RV082 Router. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Could and AVG update caused this?

For example, if I click on an application from the desktop it will sit there for 10-20 seconds before anything happens. Occasionally I'll click multiple times on something and nothing will happen then 30 seconds later it will open multiple instances of things. This delay has been happening with just about anything I click on, acting like the computer's busy doing something else when nothing else should be going on. I dont' know why this so much, nor how to fix the problem. I get the message "can't find server", with Firefox and Internet Explorer. I then have to log off and reboot, which costs me money as I use my computer in my small business. This is very frustrating and I need to know how to fix the problem. I recently moved to an apartment from a house and I'm wondering if that may have something to do with it. maybe all the signals in an apartment setting are crossing or something.

I'm in the middle of a basic networking lab and one of my VM's crashed. As our host, we use Windows XP. For virtualization we use VMware Workstation. I had a problem installing the Internet Printing Client for my lab. I got an error saying that there wasn't enough hard drive space. I then shut down my VM and added another hard drive. Upon startup I was greeted with: STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} i did this:Removing the virtual HDD I added before the problems started. Restarting the VM. Restarting the host machine. Trying the VM on another machine. Booting to .iso and using the repair console with the command chkdsk C: /r.
Having trouble at start up, very slow and opening IE or any other program also slow.

norton internet securities wont work, norton antivirus wont work.
computer (WinXP SP2 - 1GB RAM) just started in the last day or two to load really slow -- it takes a good half hour or more to get to the point where you can click on an icon and it takes a few minutes to open. Don't even ask about the internet. it did not download anything in the last few days and has no idea why this is happening.

View 2 Replies View RelatedNot sure this is the correct place to post, as I don't know what the problem IS but it is brand new tonight. I noticed this after installing two Big FIsh demo games, playing a short time and uninstalling them. I think I have also cleaned out all files related to those two games from the registry. Then I rebooted. Now, everything on my desktop has white motion lines on the right side. It looks similar to dragging a box across the screen that leaves a trail. I have checked my monotor settings, nothing there helps. Not sure what else I should do next, but this DOES seem related to the games. I did get a screen shot if someone needs to see that.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite R10 and when I do certain things, the mouse becomes very jerky and generally not fluid when moving from side to side. It almost stops responding completely. It is a brand new system with nothing new installed on it. Toshiba recommends using the recovery disc but it is still in "recovery disc state". Is there something I can look for that would be the cause of this before I have to send it back to Toshiba and be without for weeks?

A way to fix this, on most options, has a little choice under the mouse speed. Go to Control Panel>Mouse. Click on Pointer Options, and then you will see a bar. The first bar is the motion speed. Under that, "Enhance Pointer Precision," is shown, uncheck that and see how much faster your mouse will go.

I'm getting a wavy motion when moving a window, entire picture, etc. I've replaced the video board, same specs as the one that was in the PC. This did not help. Also, the board/drivers do not show up in device mgr. Seems strange to me. Hope some one can shed some light on this problem.

Under 'select the backup sets to restore' I check the only checkbox there, then in the 'To Database' I select the name of the database in the file (a new DB name appears there as you select the file).
XP Pro SP2, all latest updates. When I reboot, I can correctly sync to a time server, but after an unknown amount of time it goes back to saying "The RPC server is unavailable" instantly after clicking Update Now, regardless of what server I tell it to sync to. I also noticed that if I view my nForce Networking Controller status, then click Properties and go to the Authentication tab, everything is greyed out. If I hit OK without changing anything (I can't change it even if I wanted to), a message pops up saying "An unexpected condition occured. Not all of your requested changes in settings could be made" and just goes back to that window. I have to hit cancel to close it
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a number of XP computers (all SP2) connected to the Net via a wireless modem/router. Everything was fine until a few days ago when my connection speed dramatically slowed after being online for a few hours. This happens to all of the PCs in my home - so it's nothing internal to my PC. I tried to transfer a large file across the wireless network and it transferred fine (5Mb in 10 seconds). I can also connect to the router's web management software without problem. So it's not the wireless connection. Which leaves either my modem/router or my broadband connection. The router's "DSL" light is always on which infers that my broadband connection is OK. So that leaves my modem/router.
I am currently working on a project and I am in need of a way to run applications off of a central server from an XP client. The applications that need to be run are from the Microsoft Office package. This is for a school project, if more information is needed I can try to provide it
