Anybody know how to permanently set the Zoom function for every Explorer page you open to different than the set 100%.The reason is I have just purchased a new 20" widescreen and it seems the only method of obtaining larger screen inages using the recommended resolution.Everything is so small! Each page I open I have to keep manually altering the zoom function and when working on quite a few pages at a time its getting tedious!
View 3 RepliesDell Latitude 810D probably about 4 years old running XP Pro SP3. The following has happened a few times in last 18 months but reboot has always solved problem - today it continues even after reboot. No new software has been added recently; anti-virus program runs in background all the time and full sys scan every night. Dell tech support says it is a software issue. I am not getting any error messages, just screen magnification that has not been asked for by user.
When opening Firefox or MSWord initially the web page (or word document) looks normal at a reasonable text point size, but within a few seconds it progressively zooms larger to over flow the screen. In Firefox it looks like 1,600% in Word it seems to go to 500%. In either application using the menu or keyboard shortcut to restore screen to a more readable text size only retains that for a few seconds before it zooms and over flows the screen. Usually clicking on the scroll bar to move vertically is erratic and even though you click to go down on the page the screen seems to jump downward but then back up on its own.
As I said, rebooting typical would solve things but not today. Using the computer of a friend as my laptop is impossible to work with. Typing text in browser search, or Word, or email program because of the magnification becomes nearly impossible to track. I have not tried other apps, but the magnification is consistent except that with Internet Explorer things automatically zoom out making things at about 12% size.
Not sure this is an operating system issue but was not sure which forum to post this in. I am currently running a full system scan (Kaspersky Internet Security 2010). Desktop looks normal (icons and text labels look the same size that they always do; Windows Explorer also looks normal. Thanks for any assistance.
Change the text size.I already change my text size by using view in tool bar,but it works on some websites and some are very small.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have my text size set at Largest in the view menu on IE6, lately it isn't working and I am really having some serious problems I had a cornea transplant last Jan and I have not gotten new contacts yet, ( my Doc told me I am good to go for using the puter, in case anyone's concern) I HATE HATE ATE the magnifier, its very disorienting, so what could possibly be causing this, my spyware sanners turn up nothing Norton turns up nothing, I went t0o a sight for ASAP or some thing for "professionals" thru a link on the board, and I got an X-Clean thing, I figured it was safe cause another member had it as a link, was I hijacked someplace else. Could this be the problem?

As an exmple, the background for Yahoo is white even though I have tried to change it to a theme that yahoo offers. The text size also is too big and all over the place- looks weird. I have tried everything I can think of but i am a novice and am wondering if there is some simple answer here or something else I can try? Is it XP or a problem with my browser? MSN also has only a white background with big letters that look awkward. If I try to change the background to blue, it won't do it. It's driving me nuts!

View 28 Replies View RelatedI am using an elderly 3M LCD projection panel on an overhead prjector for big screen Tv, driven by XP pro SP3. The panel has no controls for vertical/horizontal size and whatever monitor is used, an OS desktop fills the screen by default. I can resize the window for the TV viewing program in the normal way,just filling my projection screen, but the XP desktop is far too large.Does anyone know of a way to change the physical size of the desktop (including the taskbar) so that it sits in the LCD screen with a blank border all around, or maybe even make it custom resizeable as in a program window ( without changing the resolution)?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just reformatted my computer a Dell, Inspiron 8100, Windows XP home edition. Screen resolution default is 1600X1200 Pixels. I like 1024X768. When I change the resolution to 1024X768 or any other setting available the screen just gets smaller. There is no change in "Screen Resolution.
I have installed all the updates and SP2. Auto-updates seems to be doing fine. I downloaded new NiNida drivers from Dell, etc. I've removed and reinstalled the video drivers several times.
I want to know if there is possible to put a specific text over the desktop and when the user change the wallpaper the text continues appearing at the same position (basically I want to do it on Windows XP).People says that an image worth more than thousands of words... View 10 Replies View Relatedlast night my electric ran out suddenly...this doesnt usually happen 'cause i try to keep it all up to date (key meters for ya) When i turned my comp back on it went to the Black screen with White text, you know the one with Start Windows Normally.Start in Safe Mode etc.Well either way when i choose one of those, i get a blue screen of death appearing, can't quite remember what it said now, 'cause i am at a friend house at the moment, but i rang some tech support guy and he said my ROM had crashed, i've never heard anything like this before, so i am hoping you guys will know whats wrong, when i get back later i will find out what the blue screen has on it and post it here, but i know when the electric ran out it seriously messed something up...
I don't know how to fix it, and well if i have to re-install windows, then i'll just have to, but theres usually some other way.
Not sure if this is really an OS issue or my video card or what. In the middle of playing WOW a few days ago, my husband's monitor went haywire with odd shapes and then displayed a message about nv4_disp caused an error and then it shut down. We then tried rebooting and it only got to the welcome blue screen and froze there with the username and password box distorted. It also displays all of the boot-up screen text in purple which is weird - normally white.

I pretty much get an error every five minutes, then when ever I am doing like messenger and browsing at the same time. It gives me the usual blue screen with white text, saying an error, I have found mostly that it is one of three errors that usually happen. View 5 Replies View RelatedI returned to my computer earlier today and noticed it was a bit sluggish and out of the ordinary. I restart it thinking this will fix the problems, only to find out that its having problems booting up Windows XP. It gets to the window boot up screen and would get a quick flash of a Windows error message(blue screen with yellow text) and would restart and continue this process with no end. I attempted to boot-up from Safe-mode and last windows configuration, yet the problem continued. I decided to bite the bullet and reformat. Here entails my actual problem, I delete the partition and attempted to reformat. Well it begins as it normally would, however it freezes everytime at 1%. I have tried another HDD sadly, I don't think that one has ever worked. It gets power fine, mobo is working correctly. Yet, it could be several things I could've fried my HDD, CPU, RAM any number of things. Yet it dosent seem very possible as I have heat sinks on the RAM and decent cooling in my computer.

When I go to reboot it, an "End Program - Zoom In" window pops up and I have to click on OK to end the program for the computer to shut down. It seems obvious to me that this "Zoom In" program is using all my resources but I don't know how to keep it from starting - and it doesn't always start.My computer is an Acer TravelMate 2300 with an Intel Celeron 1500 Mhz processor and 1.23 Ghz of RAM, Windows XP Home Edition SP2. View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post on this site, I know that there have been posts on this topic becfore, however mine is different than the rest of the posts. In the other posts,this has occured on a modified computer, but when it happened to me, it was my unmodded computer. So heres what happened. I boot up, and after the HP screen, instead of going to the windows loading screen, I get a message with alot of text, but the main point was that "a failure was imenent", F1 to continue, F2 to enter setup. So i hit F1 to continue, and after a minute of a blank screen and the blinking text dash, the DISK BOOT FAIlURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK message. But I have never modified my coputer, and never used a setup disk before on this machine. BTW:I tried resetting BIOS, but to no avail.

It's not that the windows or font have been changed in the display properties. Even when I look at my photos they are all stretched out of wack too!Please help! Because this has happened on my hubbies work computer.

I tried the trick used in WIN me of stretching the corners of the screen to make it full size, but the next time it does not come up full size. I don't believe it did this when I first started using WIN XP, but with many program additions, it just started to happen. My PC is a COMPAQ with 2.5 Celeron. PC is only 4 months old.

I'm now using SP2.I was certain that in the 'filmstrip' setting for photos there was a 'Zoom IN/OUT' option - am I wrong? I'm using TweakUI + TweakXP Pro 4, I've checked everywhere but I can't find anywhere that the zoom option has been unchecked? Is it there or can I enable it somehow?

1. When I'm opening any doc file (Word 2007) or PPT file, the file appears with the maximum zoom (400%), without the ability to change back the zoom to 100%.Also, I can't scroll the file up or down !
2. The resolution of the projector's screen and the laptop's screen is changing (Once I'm click on "Fun F8"), so I can see it all as a 200% Zoom.Refer to the expert's diagnostic:
Once I'm replacing my HardDisk by another one, the phenomenon is disappear, which mean, we have to format the HD & re-install the XP.
I had to reformat my pc and after doing so all the icons/font etc is the size for my original screen. I went under device manager to update the monitor and it's still the same size.
View 4 Replies View RelatedLast night I reformatted my laptop with my XP disk. it was just that time to clean out the hard drive something that I've done many times. But some weird things happened.1- It never asked me to type in my XP Key 2- when it finally installed some things seemed to be overlooked. Like the drivers. When windows restarted and came up normally the screen was set to 640x480 at 16 bit and wont let me make it larger. I went into the adv tab to see if i could update the driver but the properties button under the monitor type was grayed out. This along with other hardwares on my computer never installed. I tried the recovery cd after that to install the drivers but nothing helped. It seems like the plug-play never was activated.
