This only happens when my brother plays video games on his computer. Comprehensive virus and spyware scans have found nothing. The following games crash, due to the diversity of the games we think it is something to do with Graphics.Oblivion, Everquest 2, Call of Duty 2, Morrow Wind, Age of Empires 3, Anarchy Online, World of Warcraft, Ultima Online. Vanguard, Battlefield 1942.Whether he is playing hours or seconds he gets this problem. The time it takes to crash is not dependent on the level of graphics the game has
Dell inspiron 1300. The laptop goes fuzzy at the bottom half of the screen when the computer starts. It goes clear again straight when the booting sequence starts. (sometimes it boots fine). I am also getting random BSOD's now. Memory_managemet / fault to non paged area / usb etc. I was thinking mabe someting in the bios/motherboard is corrupt. An update to the bios didnt fix it.
when I try to boot up my computer it just stops at the Windows welcome screen where it says 'Windows is starting up...'. The problem is Windows doesn't start up. I've managed to log on however, by going into safe mode and changing the way I log on by switching to the more classic method, but this is not the real answer I want
I had a similar problem not too long ago where my PC would not load and I had to re-install windows. But now, If I try to press F8 it just ignores it and carrys on into loading windows normally, which causes the PC to freeze. This also happens when I try and boot from my windows setup disk. I have checked all the lights on my keyboard and they are all on and working whenever I press Caps Lock etc.As for Viruses etc. I had not downloaded anything new onto the PC since this last hapened and I have been running regular Anti-Virus scans every 2-3 days.
My computer is running Win XP pro. It freezes when it goes to screen saver mode after few minutes and the cursor does not move. I need to reboot the computer to make work. Any help for this problem
I formatted my hd and reinstalled windows. However, after I finished installing all the drivers the system was running pretty sluggish. Also I have no been able to get an anti-virus program running. Everytime I try to install one, after I reset the comp, it freezes after the welcome screen. Actually I can move the mouse around but it won't finish loading up. I ended up reformating again, I installed all the drivers, it ran fine for a little bit, I created a restore point, I installed a virus scan, and same happened again. Also, the system restore kept turning off after every restart. Now i'm in safe mode and can't even undo the virus scan installation. I don't get any kind of errors, it just won't work. Previously the computer ran in this exact setup for about 6 months w/ no problems.
ive tried installing latests and original drivers for the gfx card, but it hasnt done anything. although i noticed the new 5.6 catalyst drivers freeze my system around only 5 minutes into a game. i also get the same freezing problem when running 3dmark, a gfx benchmark program. the only clu i have is from event viewer, which says the following under systems tab
My computer was working fine this morning, I didn't download anything or do anything different, just normal web searching. As I'm loading a web page, the computer freezes. I Cntrl Alt Dlt and nothing, so I turn off my computer and turn in back on, it reboots to the Win screen where you sign in as an identity, I enter my password and it freezes. Again, I have to reboot the computer manually, and it freezes at the Compaq screen that comes on when you first turn on the computer. I turned off the comp, opened it, removed my fan, blew it out a bit, removed the processor and reseated it (in the process, reseated it incorrectly and bent a far corner prong, attempted to straighten w/tweezers, and ultimately BROKE it off...DOH!). I wasn't sure if the broken prong would have a big effect, so I reseated it correctly, reseated my memory, and tried again, same thing, just hangs at the Compaq screen
I awoke by the sound of my computer posting. I was confused, but concluded it was just a Windows Updated rebooting my computer. It happened again the same night, waking me up. I woke up, started looking around my Event Logs (which show no Warnings or Errors by the way), and it froze. I have tried reformatting, updating video card drivers, updating BIOS, running MEMTEST86, clearing CMOS, and none of these have cured it or helped me diagnose the problem.I was watching a movie the other day on my computer, and it froze. Weird thing was, I continued to hear the video for about 20 seconds, but the screen was frozen, and couldn't move my mouse or use my keyboard (couldn't SEE me using it anyways). My mouse has been acting up, so I thought maybe in some weird way, that's affecting the freezing. I unplugged it, using only my keyboard, but of course, it still froze. I can still hear the HDD activity, and the LEDs flashing, but nothing changes on the monitor. I have also tried different monitors, but that didn't help either.http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/3595/tempsmx4.jpg Temps; accurate.Could it be a video card problem? I do not have any other PCI-E or even PCI video cards to test with, so I'm SOL there.
I have a dell dimension 8250 3 years old I just had a nvidia gforce 128 mb graphics card put in to replace a burned out 64 bit card, now I just noticed the next day that when I right click anywhere on the desktop screen except on a folder or program-the cursor become an hourglass and it freezes pemanantly I cant even turn the comp off to shut it down I have to use the on off button.Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong?
I have an old - 6 yrs old (no-name) PC running Windows Xp (upgraded from 98). Recently I had to erase and reload everything on my computer - including XP - so now I only have some basic programs from established vendors (MSFT office, Norton, Adobe and SBC yahoo DSL). Since I did all of this, now while I am on the internet, my computer will all of a sudden freeze and the screen will become one color (not the typical blue screen but usually the background color of the page I was just viewing) with some vertical lines. At this point nothing works, so I have to reboot the computer.
My dad installed some program on his computer, didn't like it, and uninstalled it. After that, his computer crashed and I haven't been able to get passed the screen with Windows XP Professional and the moving blue bar and then it freezes. Last Good Configuration doesn't work; it ends up at the same place and the blue bar stops also. I System Restored it to the day before he installed the program; once again, the blue bar stops moving.Could this be a hardware issue? Virus (unlikely)?
I have a Seagate Barracuda ATA IV model ST380021A. Don't know if it's SATA or not. I have a SOYO SY-P4VTP M/B. After I do a clean/new install on a formatted drive, (I even installed the SATA drivers that came w/ the mobo just in case) the computer freezes on reboot after the initial installation where it says "Setup will continue after reboot" or something like that. @ the bootscreen with the logo, the bluish bar scrolls a couple of times and freezes. Does anyone know why? I tried installing at a friends house and it worked fine so I know it's not a harddrive error but I place it in mines and it doesn't work so I create a new install and same problem.. I know it's not a temp issue since it's running < 100 F. THis is a genuine copy of XP. Just in case I used my friends.
I push the power button on the modem and it's fine... right after the screen does the Windows XP with the loading bar at the bottom screen it turns black and I even left it on for like 10 minutes and it still wont work. I also tried to start windows in SAFE MODE and LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION plus many others, but it wont work. I still have valuable information in the computer so,
When i was checking the computer out at sellers house, it did not crash and worked fine, I took it home for a good price (i thought) at $300. There was an instance of Windows XP installed, and seller asked me to format it before I started using the computer, I agreed and headed home. To test it out I installed Prince of Persia and ran that, everything went smoothly and I was satisfied. I then went out and bought a nice $200 widescreen monitor (the 15" crt wasnt cutting it) and the wireless card as it only had ethernet. Hooked up the new monitor and wireless connected to the internet and started installing WoW. At disk 5 it frooze up and its all gone downhill from there
When I start the computer, after the windows XP logo I get a blue screen with border top and bottom and a small windows logo and the mouse cursor then I can do nothing but move the mouse cursor around that screen.
I need lots of help, I have a HP system with Windows XP Pro. I tried to connect the system as a 2nd system to a linksys router.. went under network connections and no icon there in order for me to connect it to the router. Don't know how to set this up. That is one problem. The other problem is that when I start the system it will go to the Welcome screen and wont go any further. I tried reinstalling the Windows XP Pro but I think I really screwed things up
I am using a Gateway Tablet PC. XP PRO; 2Gig ram; 80 gig hd; Within the last few days it has fallen apart. I have added nothing new. I boot it on and all seems well. I can run an app, work in it and then close it. Then the mouse freezes or slows to a crawl. I can not open any thing else. I registered several DLL's such as urlmon.dll,etc. because of a Micrsoft fix listed elsewhere but this did not work. All spyware and virus checks have been negative. CTRL-ALT-Del gives me an error that the taskmgr.exe could not be initialized. Now the only way to shut down is to totally power off and if reboot I get the blue screen while the disk is checked and it is always negative
I bought a used computer and monitor for my niece. They work fine, running xp. BUT the icons and fonts on the desktop are incredibly fuzzy. The photo used as the background is clear and crisp. It is only the icons and icon text that are fuzzy. I tried going to properties>appearnce>advanced, but the font is tahoma and 8. Went to properties>appearance>effects and fade effect is checked, also shadows, dragging contect, hide underlined letters. The edge smoothing was unchecked, so I tried standard>no change in fuzziness; tried clear type>no change in fuzziness. What am I missing?
My computer screen freezes up after a while, then turns into a blank light blue screen and then into a black screen. I have used regcure, PCMedkit, and PC Doc Pro I have also tried some of the online help for a fee but nothing seem to work. Lately when trying to reboot I got a blank red screen. I'm using xp pro and a Nvida GeForce 9400GT GRAPHICS CARD.
I went out of town for 2 weeks, came home and my pc is acting really strange. I've been getting tons of pop-ups, to the point my computer freezes and i must restart. Not only that but it randomly reboots itself even when not being used. Also, when i go to delete files now, the file does NOT go into the recycle bin. I looked at the settings and there is no check mark next to the "do not move files into recycle bin". My BF said he had been downloading things so I figured maybe its a virus or something. I ran Nortons... nothing. Ran AVG... nothing. A friend told me it sounded like spyware so he told me to run Adaware & Spybot. Did that, found a ton of stuff. But when i retarted the pc, it wanted to start in "safe mode". I noticed that most of these pop ups are (search miracle ??) Found info that its a trojan, but i dont know. . I dont know what to do, totally computer illiterate.
I need help with Xp freezing in normal mode.Problems I'm having Computer freezes at the welcome(choose profile) screen after 30-60 seconds. If I Immediatly login to my profile, the desktop boots up, but once again freezes.I think it runs for about a minute total before freezing either way. When it freezes the HDD light stops blinking and the scratchy HDD 'reading' sound ceases, but I can still hear it spinning this is constant, not hit and miss(since this began(last evening) I cant get xp to run in normal mode for more than a mintute before freezing)
I won't get past the Welcome Screen. I click on my Id and just says loading personal preferences. Right before that happened, I working on my comp. and just froze, so I turned it off and then when rebooting that happened. I have windows XP and haven't messed with the configuration settings, the only thing that I did notice was when I was changing my background picture, I guess that's when it froze. I have also tried starting it in safe mode, but the same thing, just freezes when in the welcome screen.
Sometimes when I do alt-tab, the entire screen freezes. The weird thing is though, is that I can unfreeze it by pressing windows key. This is driving me crazy.
I got an AMD Sempron 2600 and a k7Triton Motherboard for Christmas and put them in my computer. After that my computer barely ever would boot up. If it didnt boot up my loading bar on the windows XP screen would freeze (the blue one) although it didnt freeze it actually would move very very slowly but windows would never load. If windows did boot from me choosing last knwn config(only one I tried) then it would boot flawlessly. But know the real problem.... I came home from school and had not turned my comp off in 2 days (hibernating) and my computer seemed to be slow i pressed ctrl+alt+del and my CPU Usage said 100%! even tho I was barely runing anything so i turned off my computer(not hibernate)
All of a sudden the other day my OS (Win XP Pro, SP II) froze shortly after bootup. I was able get on Firefox but the mouse froze on the XP screen when running any HD application. Ctrl-Alt-Delete didn't free up the mouse, and doing it twice got no response.Earlier, I couldn't find any conflicts on the Device Manager.I changed my mouse connection from USB to Serial, but that made no difference...This AM, Windows booted up OK, but the screen froze right after a few tray & desktop icons had loaded. Ctrl-Alt-Delete still didn't function for a shutdown...Strangely, the Num-Lock light and the mouse underside red beam stayed on after shutdown.
The past three days I have been seeing a blue box saying, Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Yesterday I came home and checked my e-mail which worked fine. After that I tried to log on to Google and the box came up again. The next thing I know the screen turns a bright blue and freezes up. I call Dell and the tech asks me a few questions and takes me to the boot up screen, and then the self diagnostic screen. When the test was over it said Maxtor (product number) failure.
I have been searching for cure for my sister's laptop. It is a Presario 2500, with 512 mb of ram. I recently restored the operating system (3-4 weeks ago) because of a virus she got. She said she shut down her computer yesterday using start>turn off computer>restart. When the computer went to restart, it freezes completely on the blue "windows is starting" screen immediately before the login screen. The computer was restarted again and froze at the same screen. I tried to have her start in safe-mode and last-known configuration to no avail.
I started getting BSOD when powering on. So I put in my XP disk and used Startup / Repair. It completed more or less successfully. However, when I boot up I get the Windows XP Home loading screen, the 3 green dots pass by 3-5 times, then freeze. I can get in via Safe Mode, and my apps seem to run OK.
