Security update for Microsoft VM installs, complains that update is for an existing version of VM and installs again the next day. I don't have VM on my machine. Seems like the OS does not know what I have on my machine and what has been installed.816093: Security Update Microsoft Virtual Machine (Microsoft VM)This update helps resolve a vulnerability in the Microsoft virtual machine. This setup will only upgrade over an existing version of the Microsoft VM.

Since Windows has been released several time zone changes have occurred, and beginning this coming year the Daylight Saving Time period will change in the US. Specifically, DST will start three weeks earlier (2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in March) and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November). Thus, Microsoft is releasing an update to address changes that have or will take place in several countries. The update will be delivered automatically to Windows XP SP2 users starting December 12th (or can be downloaded now by clicking here) and will be included in Windows Vista.

I'm having this weird problem in my computer's date and time. Its adding 100 years randomly, because of that I have to set it to the right date because other applications won't work with that time and date. And when I say randomly, meaning you don't know when it will change the date and time.

I am setting up my new ZT Reliant desktop. When checking on their website for update of drivers, they have:
Chipset 32bit Driver Download
Chipset 64bit Driver Download
Audio 32bit Driver Download
Audio 64bit Driver Download
AllOS RAID Drivers Download
Since my PC is 64, I plan to install only the 64. But is there also some reason to install the 32? Also what about the RAID drivers? I am totally new to 64/RAID. The extent of my knowledge is the ability to say them!

I have a question for those doing Windows Update manually using Internet Explorer. Does it take a long time for Windows Update to scan your computer and determine which updates are needed?
After clicking "Express" or "Custom" from within the Windows Update home page, it seems to take 10-15 minutes for the site to finally tell me what updates are needed.

My QuickTime player has gone lu-lu....for the second time. This is my situation. I am unable to view videos(from my digital camera) and unable to access some websites.
The problem arises when I try to view a video, downloaded to my computer, from my digital camera. This is the error signature:AppName: realplay.exe AppVer: 11.0.0.431 ModName: quicktime.qts odVer: 7.2.0.240 Offset: 000cd909 I'm also advised that my Quicktime player is out of date and to please update. OK...I try that, then get the message:QuickTime player is not properly installed. Please reinstall. So I go to Add & Remove Programs and first attempt to "Repair QuickTime", which is unsuccessful. Then I try to uninstall but can't because files are missing.I'm running Windows XP SP2, IE6(don't like IE7) on a Dell Dimension 8200, 512MB ram. My technical/computer skills are limited!

I was updating multiple WinXP Pro SP2 computers at the same time, and suddenly one of them failed during the update, and since then i cannot update cause the system always complains about a security certificate is out of sync with your time. And it suggest that I set the clock which is perfectly ok.Now the next thing I did was (the obvious) google 0x80072F8F (this was the error code winxp update gave to me.
and after googling some I did the following1.Deleted the cache of IE 6 2.Made sure computer got no virus 3.Tried from safe mode (virus scan as well) 4. regsvr32 /s Softpub.dll 5. regsvr32 /s Mssip32.dll 6. regsvr32 /s Initpki.dll 7. regsvr32 /s Msxml3.dll 8. rebooted tried again

I lake SP2 since I have worked out the bugs and would like to keep it. Can I Reinstall windows XP on another partition on my hard drive so I can boot to this installation when I work with Adobe premiere(my movie making program) and Pinnacle DV500(my capture card) And if so how big of a partition should I set-up.

Every night my computer links with Microsoft and in the morning it tells me that it has updates to install. I click the yellow shield to install and when it finishes I reboot the computer. Now here comes the problem, then it does the same thing again with exactly the same updates. I have checked by going with the custom rather than the easy install and the updates are the same ones each time

I posted the same question on MS newsgroup but since nobody replies to it and there are about 8 people with the same problem, I thought that I look somewhere else for answer. I'm in the middle of formatting a hard drive, doing the research while waiting. good thing I have another computer to use. I installed the latest MS Windows Update this afternoon (about 10 hours ago) and it renders my computer unusable. the computer won't boot, it just got stuck on the Windows XP screen where the blue bars go from left to right. after about 2-3 runs, it started to get very slow and the little blocks that make up the bars shows up very slowly like in slow motion. I don't (can't) remember the exact KB number, but I remember installing about 7-8 updates. the critical (required) ones are the malicious software removal thing, a patch for IE6, outlook express patch, ms word patch. then I add the root something update and an update for my network card. hen it told me to reboot the computer but the computer will not boot. I tried another hard drive that I haven't used since March, it performs the same "problem", the bars go for about 2-3 runs then it started to get very slow. then it just sits there, stuck, until I press the reset button. I'm currently formatting this hard drive and leaving the updated one untouched because I don't want to have to format that one. too much data and too many programs to reinstall (I want clean install and clean registry).

The complaint is that Windows is very slow, and the problem started after "the yellow item (icon) showed up on the screen (system tray)."When the cursor is placed over the "yellow item," the text says "Automatic Updates."The computer is an HP Laptop, and the operating system is Windows XP. Now I realize that this is a very indefinite description of a problem, but I hope someone can help with the following questions: Has anyone had any problems with either slow boot or slow operation when Windows automatic updates are enabled? Either with Windows 2000 or Windows XP? When you enable automatic updates, does the "Windows Update" option from the START/ALL PROGRAMS menu disappear (it had disappered from the menu on the problem computer)? Can automatic updates be disabled, and, if so, does the option return to the All Programs menu?

A few days ago some security files were downloaded in my sys (WinXP Home with SP2) as part of the MS Auto Updates out of which one security file KB 923980 also downloaded and installed. But in spite of such insrallation, this particular file keeps coming into the Notifn. Area of the Task bar and on placing my cursor over it, I find that it is insisting to be installed again manually.

I have a legal copy of XP which has been registered. There are 92 updates that will not install. I isolated KB892130 as the validation tool that will not validate with Microsoft before the other updates can be installed. I have turned off Avast (antivirus), but did not disable it. I have a laptop with Avast on it which has updated perfectly. I have forced validation from DOS but this still doesn't let the updates go ahead

I'm trying to install Windows XP on a machine that was just put together. I started installing XP 4 or 5 hours ago. It's saying 37 minutes remaining right now. almost three hours ago it was at 39 minutes remaining. This isn't my first attempt installing xp on this machine. I've swapped out the HD, the CD drive, tested the memory and checked the jumpers. Everything appears to be okay in the bios (although i'm not an expert). Nothing seems to work. I'm sure it's not the CD, i used it earlier today on my machine with no problems. Any ideas what the problem could be?

The computer uses XP home and is set for automatic updates.Every time I switch off it says it is installing update 1 of 1 even if I have not been connected to the net. When I tried using manual update I was told that the installation of <Windows Installer 3.1> had failed. Is the computer trying to install this same thing every time?If it is how do I get it to install properly or remove it from the list of programs ready to be installed?I think that when I installed the drivers for the motherboard this installer, or an earlier version, was installed by the Intel download.

After installing and running MSE I have been unable to update definitions either manually or automatically. At the same time I noticed that microsoft automatic updates are getting to around 28 percent and then stopping - not fully downloading or installing. I cannot get through to any microsoft websites now - but all other sites are fine. wuauserv and bits are missing from services also. Have I been sneakily virused by something which MSE hasnt picked up. I tried to run malicious software removal tool - it downloads alright but wont install - says its not a valid win32 application. I correctly downloaded the 32bit app. Can anyone shed some light on any of this. I dont want to rebuild again and again.
