Recovering From A HD Partition / And Getting Error Message?
Jun 1, 2010
This follows on from my previous thread "Error messages when trying to log in to internet"I dug out the instructions for my 6 year old PC and discovered for the first time that there was a recovery option by pressing F10 during boot up. I really need to repair or reinstall windows as the PC is so messed up but there are two options.Default option: Recovers factory- shipped applications, drivers, and the operating system without affecting any data files that you may have created since purchasing this PC.

I've searched the internet for a simple way to do this, but it seems it all revolves around paying for the privilege, hence I hope you can help. I introduced a new hard drive into my machine which was going to be the primary drive, along with a secondary hard drive which contained all my MP3, MPEGs, JPEGs, etc. And before I go further, the second HDD hadn't been backed up for new a year. As I type this, I now understand the importance and value behind ackup!! Anyway, I inserted my Windows XP operating disk, and started the
machine. It went through the usual start up procedure, asked me to format and partition the new hard drive BUT, for some unknown reason, when I was prompted to choose which HDD

The way my recovery partition works on my netbook is when it was first used (I didnt not use it first) is it creates an image of the system when all the system has been setup then when ever I have to use the recovery it used that image to just overwirte and replace everything.I have access to the partition where the Recovery is stored and I have my Recovery Disk but as its a netbook I have no Drive, I can copy the disk files onto my Pen drive (if my pen drive is big enough)
I want to know if there is anyway I can change it so I can use the recovery and do it from scratch like when it was first turned on (first use) because there are setting there and other items that I want to change. If I could do it by editing the files in the partition that would be easier but I can try and use the disk if needs be?

I am preparing my computer for doing a full pc recovery process. I have had viruses and spyware in the past and still continuing windows errors. I want to wipe my hard drive and recover my pc back to factory HP state. I do not have any recovery discs for it. The recovery disc creator does not work and my laptop has been discontinued and they don't offer any support for it. So I will be using the recovery console partition HP has put on the computer. All of my important data is backed up to an external hard drive. Is this risky at all? Could the process error at all? I don't know if the partition could have been tampered with from all the malware and cleanups I have done to the computer. I am a little worried if something happens,

Did something really stupid the other day. Was doing a Windows install and I mistook a drive for a different drive. In short, I deleted the partition, recreated the partition, but I haven't reformatted yet. The partition was the same size before and after so that shouldn't be a problem. the files should still be there but I don't know how to get at them. I've already tried Recuva, UndeletePlus, Restoration, and a Knoppix boot disk but none of these were able to do anything because of the lack of a file system/boot sector.

Now I am having multiple new problems. I want to completely erase the hard drive and install a new version of XP Home, not Pro. At the beginning of the installation process, it gathers system info. Immediately it responds with "no valid system partition" and the only option is to exit from the process. How can I get past this to complete the installation?

Man, my computer for the last two weeks have been crashing like an emo. I mean, when I play GTA: San Adreas, in 20 minutes, I get a BSOD with a stop error. When I put hardware acceleration to full, in a half an hour, I get a BSOD with a similar error. Believe me, I got three kinds of errors, and some were from different time. I believe the problem either came from the either the PSU, new 512 mb of ram, old 512, CPU, system board, or the graphic card. I'll try to post the error as best as I can. So, is there a solution to this?
Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078) This is one of them, but there another one with KMODE that I can't seem to remember. Also, sometimes, after it tries to recover from a serious error, the computer shuts down during the bootup before I can choose which XP version I can choose.
Also, I hate to say this, but I'm not using a legit windows copy sp1, but I have updated to sp2.

i had XP 2008 virus/spyware, which I think I managed to get rid of with Malwarebytes' Anti Malware and System Mechanic 7. Now I have a new problem. After receiving a recent download from microsoft, upon restarting, I get the blue screen of death with this message; STOP: C000021a (Fatal System Error) The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000)
I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one.

When I close the box, i lose my desktop, and can't run a bunch of programs, including the "run" option. I am able to run my browsers and get on the web. I did do a system restore, and it worked at first, but then on the next reboot, i got the error message again. Did another system restore, same thing.

I have a 40GB HDD. It was originally partitioned as C: (Windows - NTFS) 15GB and D: (Data - NTFS) 27GB. I decided to have one of my sporadic forays with Linux, and using a combination of Acronis partition manager and the Windows Computer Management snap-in, did the following: C: (Windows NTFS) 10GB,D: (Data - NTFS) 5GB, E: (Transfer - FAT) 2GB, the remaining free space (20GB) formatted for Linux.I then decided to bin Linux for a while and revert to my previous partition layout. Using Windows Disk management, I removed the Linux partition and created a new partition. Then using Acronis Partition Manager I resized the C: drive to 15GB. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten to repair the MBR from having GRUB on it before I did this, so when it rebooted, I had to then boot up with a W98 floppy and repair the MBR. After having done that, and all the rest of the partition management, I have a size reporting problem! Right-clicking on the C: drive in My Computer shows the previous size as 10GB, as does Acronis. However, if I use Acronis to resize a partition, when I get to allocate the additional space, it shows the correct size! Also in Disk Management, the graphical representation of the partitions shows correctly, but the statistical info in the box above shows the previous configuration.

I seem to have bad luck with multiple partitions on one drive. I have a 160 gb hdd that was partitoned with one approx 137gb partition with windows xp. It was working fine. I decided to partition the remaining space which was something like 25gb. I did it from windows xp in the disk managment snap-in. It worked fine until I formatted the new 25gb partition and assigned the page file to this drive. I had not rebooted before formatting the new drive and I believe the format is what screwed up the drive. I have tried to chkdsk /r but it took forever and then crashed. I believe windows improperly sized the partition over part of the original C partition. I really hate logical drives. I always seem to have some sort of data loss with them..

When I turn my pc and windows loads up an error message appears saying that windows service pack 2 setup has encountered an error and has to close. However when I close the error message it keeps popping up every 20 seconds or so. When I went to microsofts website that told me that service pack 2 was installed on my pc. I have ran a full viral scan using the latest version of Panda and have also ran Reg-cure to see if the problem was in the registry but the error message still keeps popping up.
