Lost .dbx Files Outlook Express - No Folders?
Feb 14, 2009Old system had many .dbx files but zero .pst files - no export/backup had ever been done on it. Tried to copy over the .dbx files, and appeared to work, but then somehow outlook clobbered old and copied .dbx files, or rendered them invisible.

Feb 12, 2008From my old computer I exported my address book, however when I imported it into my new computer none of the folders within my address book files where there Did I do something wrong, or do these folders not export/import with the address book? The only contacts that were imported on the new computer were those under my 'main contacts', none of the folders within the address book (ie: family, business contacts...etc.) are there.

It's done this before and I've always let it with no problem.I fired up my computer yesterday and discovered that all my e-mail folders, all received and sent messages have disappeared.I thought my wife may have accidentally erased the files so I checked the Recycle Bin. There were several .bak files with the same names of the file folders.I figured hit the restore button and the files would be restored.

With mine, I get this message: "Error Deleting File or Folder-Cannot delete ntuser.dat: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." The here is linked to this address: "athcmd:download" I clicked it, nothing.I press space, nothing.We cannot read the email, we cannot read the attachment. Also some do not even carry attachments, most are text.I go a little further and open the email, an error message is still there but now says to free some memory. So I do a disk clean-up, and check the hard drive and notice that I have more than enough memory. Tried to forward these to another machine but the forward and even reply buttons are blocked.Also i just noticed that from 3rd party it might be something such as spam mail/phishers but I'd like to assume that it is not. The addresses are from clients/friends and the subject of the emails are relative.And the weird thing is is that it started doing this from 9/17 all the way to 10/5 but everything before and after that time works fine.

Aug 7, 2005Is there a way to filter out all incoming mail with the exception of names in my address book?I would like any other mail to be deleted immediately or not downloaded at all. If there is a Message Rule to use could you please tell me exactly how to word it?

Jan 2, 2006I have posted before about this but under the heading Virus/spyware. My Outlook Express keeps opening a new message window all by itself. I can't figure out what is causing it to open. I'm not busy with anything when it does, it just opens by itself. I have done spyware scans and anti-virus scans till it came out my ears. One of the moderators here have helped me with an HiJack This log and cleaned all the baddies out.

May 5, 2008I have decided to go with Windows Live Mail, so do not need Outlook Express any more. Question: Can Outlook Express be uninstalled or do I just leave it where it is in All Programs. I know it is interrogated software with Windows XPSP2, so I guess I just leave it be. I had a glitch in the signature area of Outlook Express and when I installed Windows Live Mail, the glitch came over with the importing of everything from Outlook Express....darn it. To describe the glitch.....when I go to attach a signature saved in Windows Live Mail a message appears on the desktop saying WLM has to close as there is a problem with the software. The main reason I decided to install Windows Live Mail was to rid myself of this particular glitch in Outlook Express, but unfortunately the glitch was imported along with all the messages, folders, signatures and options chosen from Outlook Express.

Oct 28, 2007I am having problems when I try to forward emails from Outlook Express.I can do three or four and then I get an error message saying "low memory".I have a fairly new computer running windows xp home and have hardly any programs on it. Nothing that is eating up all this memory. I have increased the virtural memory and that didn't help.When I get the error message I have to get out of Outlook and start it up again to even read the rest of my messages.I have deleted all the cookies and history. When I open e-mail (sent) attempting to move e-mails to( Delete) so I can delete them, I receive an Internet Explorer Script Error.There seems to be a seperate script error for each Sent e-mail with different info in the Line-through-url designations. Hitting yes/no eventually removes all the errors notifications but obviously something is wrong. The "installed" 80GB HD has had it's boot sector scrambled and will no longer boot up. I installed a second 20GB HD from a previous HP computer that I now have up and running with Win XP Home. I want to reformat the 80GB HD and would like to temporarily store data from this drive onto the 20GB HD. The main concern I have is that the larger drive is formated in NTSF and the smaller in FAT32.
Questions:
#1 Can I store the NTSF data on the FAT32 drive just to keep it protected with only the intent to transfer it back to the 80GB HD after reformating?
