View 2 RepliesOld system had many .dbx files but zero .pst files - no export/backup had ever been done on it. Tried to copy over the .dbx files, and appeared to work, but then somehow outlook clobbered old and copied .dbx files, or rendered them invisible.

The only contacts that were imported on the new computer were those under my 'main contacts', none of the folders within the address book (ie: family, business contacts...etc.) are there.

created an identity on Windows XP for each of my parents. Tried to set it up where Outlook Express could be used identically from both identities, but could not. Used the Import/Export from OE to attempt to send the address book and messages to other identity, and now they aren't found in either identity's OE program. When I tried to import the address book back into main identity's OE, an error message stated that it won't retrieve that folder
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got a message from Outlook asking permission to compress my e-mail file folders. It's done this before and I've always let it with no problem.I fired up my computer yesterday and discovered that all my e-mail folders, all received and sent messages have disappeared.I thought my wife may have accidentally erased the files so I checked the Recycle Bin. There were several .bak files with the same names of the file folders.I figured hit the restore button and the files would be restored.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI lost the Internet Explorer and Outlook express entries from START, ALL PROGRAMS. Don't know why. System Restore from yesterday could not restore anything.
I also lost these 2 entries from the quick launch bar on the left, beside the START button. Obviously IE is still on the system because I'm here.
I just downloaded IE7 to my Dell XPS400. Everything appears to have gone well thus far with one exception. I have either lost or can't identify the Outlook Express Icon on the new toolbar.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a complete computer failure & got a new one. Qwest-MSN helped w/ reloading all my preveous emails. Then I began having error messages that "OE has encountered unknown problems & has to shut down" or it would just freeze up for no reason. Emails were coming in in duplicats. (2 of every email in the inbox) (*This problem is still happening)
They had me delete my account & start over several times. Then they forwarded me all my emails they had on their system. OVER 1,000 BEGAN COMING IN! NONE TO THE INBOX! (hidden file) We put a stop to it and began searching where these were being hidden. Since getting the new computer I have not been able to get Spell Check in my OE 6.0 I am told 6.0 does not have this. I had it before changing computers and I used 6.0 then also.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have decided to go with Windows Live Mail, so do not need Outlook Express any more. Question: Can Outlook Express be uninstalled or do I just leave it where it is in All Programs. I know it is interrogated software with Windows XPSP2, so I guess I just leave it be. I had a glitch in the signature area of Outlook Express and when I installed Windows Live Mail, the glitch came over with the importing of everything from Outlook Express....darn it. To describe the glitch.....when I go to attach a signature saved in Windows Live Mail a message appears on the desktop saying WLM has to close as there is a problem with the software. The main reason I decided to install Windows Live Mail was to rid myself of this particular glitch in Outlook Express, but unfortunately the glitch was imported along with all the messages, folders, signatures and options chosen from Outlook Express.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to take a shortcut in Outlook Express using it's mail modification security feature to filter out spam emails. I would like to be able to copy and paste all of my "spam rules" from my computer onto the system of other family members using a USB storage device. This would end up saving considerable time by avoiding the input of over 150 words (this amount is always growing), one at a time, into each computers OE mail modification security feature. I've look in the WINOWS folder and can't find where the OE files are all kept, and specifically, the spam rules. I've been to the OE folder before but can't remember for the life of me what the address is.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have had a slightly annoying problem with Outlook Express which I use as my default mail client. Everything seems to work fine apart from when I try to open PDF files directly from OE, it tries to open them with notepad, which obviously doesn't work. I can save them anywhere else on my computer, my documents for example, and opening them from there works fine. I have the latest Adobe Reader. I can't find anyway to tell OE to open these attachments using Adobe Reader.

XPpro with two HDs, CDr/w and DVDr/w.(D AND (E are (were?) a 20G drive which I partitioned over a year ago. This morning I came across a 4G drive in an old box. (really). Being a curious type I pulled the power and ribbon leads from the DVD and plugged them into the 4G HD, after setting the jumper to slave. Then switched on. A dos line appeared saying 'automatically configuring an F: drive' After which Windows appeared to boot up normally. Except that 'My Computer' showed no (D The 4G (F drive showed as not formated. So... I removed the 4G and replaced the leads back to the DVD. My Computer' shows 3.5 floppy Local Disk(C FRSTHAFOLD(D 9G abt Notice NO (E
Not only that but my D drive is missing lots of files and folders wont open. It seems that the partitioning has been forgotten! I have checked what bios settings there are (not many on Compaq 5000) And the bios sees my main Crive and only one 20G disk I have a bad feeling about this Is there any way to get things back to normal?
