I am running Microsoft Works XP and have used the Word Processor to create a resume. I have saved the resume to My Documents. I have sent it out as an attachment to e-mail. Those receiving the e-mail say they get an error message that they can not open the program. The receivers usually ask me to resend as a Word Document. As far as I know it was orginally sent as a word document

Now when I start up the Works word processor and I use the "Open" function, it always opens in "My Documents". When I use "WordPad" it opens in the last folder used. Is there a way to make the Works word processor act like this? If not, is there a way to change the default opening folder? (Also is there a way to change the default location where a file is saved?)
Also, since this is closely related, I'll ask this: When you use the Open function in the Works wp, you get the "Open" dialog box. At the bottom there is a drop down box called, "Files of type". It always opens with "Works Document (*.wps). If you click the drop down box, one of the options is "All Files (*.*). Is there a way to change it to this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedFor years now people have been sending me e-mails with ''wmv attachments and I haven't had any trouble opening them until a few days ago. Now every time I try to open one of these attachments I get the following error message. OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail: *.wmv''where the Asterix is the name of the file. Does anybody have any ideas what my problem is? I know I am getting these files from a trusted friend so I am not worried about getting a virus. Like I said, I have been opening them for years. I have no trouble playing the ''wmv files that I have saved on the computer.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy desktop started acting strangely so I closed down programs and did a reboot which took a lot longer than normal - and later found out that my disk was full. During all of this, Windows somehow forgot where the administrator account was and created a new one that has no access. Can't open any programs, can't open Control Panel or IE. The folders for my old Administrator account are still on a second hard drive where they've always been, but Windows created a newly named Administrator account on my C: drive. I've tried the CTL ALT DEL twice trick to log in as administrator and still have the same situation. No programs work, control panel doesn't work. All give same error message, either it can't find the path or I don't have priv to access. "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."I've fixed the full C: drive issue since I can still access Windows Explorer, but can't seem to get my old Administrator account back. I can't delete the user since I can't get into Control Panel. I've started in safe mode and still have same issue.

Prior to the upgrade I saved all my important docs to an external Buslink hard drive. Now when I try to view my stuff it says I need Word 2000. When I put the disk in it asks for the numbers off the jewel case, I don't have these as it came as bundled software when I originally bought the computer. Compaq is being of no help!! I can open excel itself, but just no files. old or new.When I open Word it says "The file filename is unavailable" Then when I close it, it is telling me that "The file normal already exists. do you want to replace it?" if i click yes it goes away but still wont open my file next time. When I attempt to open a microsoft word doc (or excel) from windows explorer it takes apx. 30 seconds to open ..but if I open the program first , then click on the open icon it comes up instantly.Also movie files from cd take apx 30 seconds to a minute to open even if I have media player already open.This never happened on my old computer ..This new computer is a Gateway purchased in May 2005..I already tried removing unused programs and defragmenting.
