New Install Of Pro - SP2 - Poor Quality Main Screen And Halts

Dec 28, 2006

Have rebuilt my desktop, new mobo, 160G HD, 1G Ram. Mobo is a fujitsu that is listed on the HCI, but needs external video card - using Geforce. Win XP-SP2 from Tiger/OEM version. Did the install/format Hd, install finishes, restarts and does a particial boot -- Win XP main screen comes on, then screen flashes over to a poor quality XP main screen, and halts. Restart in Safe Mode, boot starts but when main screen should appear, horiz. lines and blue text type symbols, as if Geforce video card not being functional.

How To Turn Parallel Install Into Main Boot Drive?

Sep 24, 2007

WinXP Pro SP2..Multiple drives USB, SATA, EIDE..Had WinXP on C:. Drive started getting a little flaky, created an XP parallel install on newly formatted NTFS drive F: Dual boot works fine, can choose either install to boot, (of course the F: install is newer/cleaner/faster)C: continues to go south, taking the bootloader with it.Is there some way to make the drive F: installation bootable, so that I can jettison the wonky C: drive? It's not a question of BIOS boot order, or whatever, if I disable C: and set the F: disk as the boot device, I get an error message about inserting bootable media.I'm fooling around with Acronis Disk Director and OS selector, but that doesn't seem to get me completely there.

Blinking Cursor On Main Desktop Screen

Jun 6, 2008

I am having a puzzling little problem with my HP desktop computer.I am running windows xp service pack 2.At random times a little cream colored vertical cursor appears at the lower left-hand section of the main desktop screen near to the start tab.It appears every now and then for a few seconds it blinks at a fairly slow rate, then it disappears.Everything else is working fine. The computer boots up fine it doesnt freeze or go to a blue screen. Its just that little annoying cursor that pops up that shouldnt be there. It doesnt belong to any software (like a word processor) that I own.Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it and what I would have to do to make it go away.Has anyone heard of this? I have anti-virus software and its up to date and running. It doesnt detect any viruses. So I am kind of baffled. The cursor doesnt seem to effect anything but its just annoying more so because I dont know whats causing it.At least if I knew what it was maybe I wouldnt feel worried about it.

Color Quality Goes From 32 To 16 Bit

Mar 16, 2008

I have windows XP and there are a few things that are starting to get on my nerves. First, everytime I start the computer the Color Quality goes from 32 bit to 16 bit for no apparent reason. Second, my cat walked on my keyboard and now everytime I start up the computer the Magnifier comes up. Neither of these things get in the way of using anything. They're just annoying and I can't figure out how to fix them.

Color Quality Only Upto 32 Bit In X64 XP?

Aug 23, 2009

I just upgraded to x64 version from 32 bit XP. But to my disappointment, the display properties only show up to 32 bit. Where is the 64 bit option? Here is the hardware I have: I had thought that while playing games, wherever there would be unmixed colors, they would now be mixed properly, like steam coming in dark areas in a game, or too many colors not fading into each other properly. But looks like I would need to do with the 32 bit only I guess.

Poor Multicore Magnament

Aug 22, 2008

i have a Windows XP Pro 32 bit version with SP3 instaled, ive read multiple tweaks to increase the use of all my cores by windows but it doesnt asing threads to cores proportionally i have a Qx9650 at stock speeds for the everyday use.i made a test running Ultimate Zip cracker 4 times its a program made to work on single core procesors and they all run on the 1st core while the other 4 cores stay idle.they only way i can use the other 3 cores its asinging the affinity on the task manager but come on lets be realists i cant set the affinity to every thing i open.the ideal scenario would be if i open a program and the system checks that the 1st core its at 100% or nearly it should asing the task to another core but doesnt seen to work that way.so i mean whats the point getting quadcore if the windows will mostly squezee one core only.does anyone knows how to get windows split the work proportionaly on all cores?.

PC Slow To Start And Poor Performance

Sep 29, 2008

Advise if I'm wrong. A donation will be made for a solution!

It has Bullguard Anti Virus and it updates on startup, basically it is so slow that until bullguard has updated you can't do anything at all and this takes as long as ten minutes at times. by comparison, my own PC also has bullguard and although its a little slow until it has updated, it only takes a couple of minutes.
This is a P4 2660 Mhz Dell with 1gig ram and using AOL Broadband. I ran a HJT log as soon as the PC would let me, whilst the bullguard update was still sunning and it is as follows:

Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2
Scan saved at 08:35:21, on 28/09/2008
Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16705)
Boot mode: Normal

I can also take a log once the PC is fully up and running ,My only ideas regarding the slowness is that there is AOL spyware and computer check-up software running at times along with the bullguard so perhaps its just too much. Also, is the couponreport.net item in the log safe?

Apple Programming Purposely Poor For PC`s

Apr 4, 2007

I hate Apple for many reasons I can get into the rest of them later, but what I have noticed is Itunes runs just awfully on my computer when I have a dual core processor, 2gigs of ram, an nice video card, well you can see that below on my signature and there are times on mine and other decent machines when it runs slow. This didn't make me happy in the first place until I saw Itunes 7 something running on a four or five year old IMac while doing two or three other applications and it running fine. So my hypothesis is either one of two things, both being unfavorable. 1. That Apple purposely programs Itunes to run awful and hog system resources on PC's so that it will look like Mac's run better than their faster PC couterparts. 2. That they hire people who know little to nothing about programming to develop Itunes for the PC, which is basically the same thing just a deifferent method.

SvcHost Is Eating All CPU Time - Poor Ststem Performance

I've glanced thru previous threads and am unable to find much luck with this We have a Sony Viao laptop running Windows XP Professional, service pack 2. The system appears to boot normally; until Windows is finished loading. That's when we notice the CPU fan begin to rev and very poor system performance.Opening the Task Manager, we quickly see that the CPU is running at 100%, and the processes tab is showing "svchost" to be the culprit.Knowing this, we've run the standard adware/anti-viral scans that only found tracking cookies and SpamBuster, which have been nuked from the system; yet the situation continues.

System Halts - Need To Reboot

Jan 10, 2005

A friend of mine is having a really hard time figuring out why her computer keeps freezing so I said I would ask you knowledgable people here. She hardly ever uses it and has almost no programs on it but just surfing the net or even poking around the desktop will freeze the computer. Nothing to do but reboot Ctrl-alt-del won't even work. She's tried spybot, adaware, hijack this, housecall etc and I checked it out myself. I'm sure there is nothing like that on her computer. So we can rule that out. She's installed a couple of RAM and HD testers all came back fine. She does have a firewire card installed and if she attempts to use it (for transferring movies) it will freeze for sure. This could be lack of RAM even though you only need 64MB (she has 256MB) as per the box requirements. Could the firewire be affecting everything else even when not in use? Could a windows file be missing? A setting somewhere perhaps? Hardware or software conflict?

Computer Halts When Browsing

Aug 20, 2005

Recently my computer has started to freeze up or 'hang' (I think that's the right term). I use my computer for internet access almost exclusively, be it browsing, internet telephony, downloading stock data, or cleaning the fish at the poker tables (but more on the poker app in a second). I am using FireFox with tabbed browsing; everything will be normal then suddenly I won't be able to tab back and forth between open windows. Clicking on any icon on my computer brings about no response. The solution is always the same I click control alt delete and bring up the windows security dialog box. I click on Task Manager and nothing happens. THEN - I click on Task Manager a second time and the TM pops up. The weird thing is I don't have to do anything else. Task Manager shows all programs as running and then I simply close Task Manager and all programs are again functioning normally. Somehow the process of opening the TM clears the freeze-up. This is happening with all programs EXCEPT- my poker client, which doesn't freeze up at all - I can play poker or chess through the ICC BlitzIn client and there is no freeze-up. It is only when I am browsing, or using the Skype internet telephony client, that this happens, and I believe it is only when the browser is up. I have run complete Trend Micro Scans which discovered a few problems including asujuja.exe. I fixed all problems found at Trend Micro Housecall. I ran a bunch of other scans and cleaners that I have. I am going to do a defrag of my HD tonight. I downloaded the latest version of FireFox and installed it over top of the older version I had but this didn't work. Does this ring any bells with anyone? Why does the Task Manager clear this blockage and why must I always click on Task Manager TWICE to get it to work (this is the weirdest thing about the problem).
