Recently my computer has started to freeze up or 'hang' (I think that's the right term). I use my computer for internet access almost exclusively, be it browsing, internet telephony, downloading stock data, or cleaning the fish at the poker tables (but more on the poker app in a second). I am using FireFox with tabbed browsing; everything will be normal then suddenly I won't be able to tab back and forth between open windows. Clicking on any icon on my computer brings about no response. The solution is always the same I click control alt delete and bring up the windows security dialog box. I click on Task Manager and nothing happens. THEN - I click on Task Manager a second time and the TM pops up. The weird thing is I don't have to do anything else. Task Manager shows all programs as running and then I simply close Task Manager and all programs are again functioning normally. Somehow the process of opening the TM clears the freeze-up. This is happening with all programs EXCEPT- my poker client, which doesn't freeze up at all - I can play poker or chess through the ICC BlitzIn client and there is no freeze-up. It is only when I am browsing, or using the Skype internet telephony client, that this happens, and I believe it is only when the browser is up. I have run complete Trend Micro Scans which discovered a few problems including asujuja.exe. I fixed all problems found at Trend Micro Housecall. I ran a bunch of other scans and cleaners that I have. I am going to do a defrag of my HD tonight. I downloaded the latest version of FireFox and installed it over top of the older version I had but this didn't work. Does this ring any bells with anyone? Why does the Task Manager clear this blockage and why must I always click on Task Manager TWICE to get it to work (this is the weirdest thing about the problem).
My computer halst whenever i launch photoshop (all versions of Photoshop) when i install the PS software to other OC's, it works out so well be it a pentium II i tried to; Increase Ram to 1gb, HDD to 80GB, Fans, but all didn't workout. i have formated the HDD several times and changed OS, still all in vain Currently, my computer descriptions are as below;
Photoshop CS 2 & 7 Microsoft Windows XP Professional
I'm running Win XP Home - SP1 (all updates). When I shut down or reboot, the system hangs up for a long time. I sometimes have to attempt to shut it down a second time via Start/Turn Off Computer/Restart (or Shut Down). When I do Control/Alt/Delete to try to get the Task Manager it takes a long time to pop up. What do I need to do to find out what's hanging things up?
A couple of weeks ago I was searching the net and everything froze. Trying to shut down properly, NOTHING would work, including the power button. I removed and reconnected the battery to shut down and restart.Well, since then my computer has been unbearably slow. Every task from start-up (20 minutes, if at all) to loading Firefox (10 minutes) in awful. There are times where nothing even loads, all I see is my background and a cursor, nothing more.On the lucky chance that I do get everything up and running, it is slow to the point where even the clock is behind other clocks around me (cable box, other laptop) by 8-20 or so minutes.
Upon startup on XP I get a pop up message (photo below) which halts the system until I press eith YES, NO or close the box. I've done Ad-aware, AVG, Panda, and Ewido scans on the PC but everything appears clean. The box itself contains no dialogue, simply two buttons (Yes, No), so its difficult to ascertain what the program (if any) is
I have receintly purchesed a hybrid-self built computer, rather relyable and fast, but since i brought it home it would periodicly stop in mid function and reboot all while case lighting uninterupted. I tried to replace oem powersupply with a much more capible one of 700w and still system will stop in mid-function and reboot as if reset
A friend of mine is having a really hard time figuring out why her computer keeps freezing so I said I would ask you knowledgable people here. She hardly ever uses it and has almost no programs on it but just surfing the net or even poking around the desktop will freeze the computer. Nothing to do but reboot Ctrl-alt-del won't even work. She's tried spybot, adaware, hijack this, housecall etc and I checked it out myself. I'm sure there is nothing like that on her computer. So we can rule that out. She's installed a couple of RAM and HD testers all came back fine. She does have a firewire card installed and if she attempts to use it (for transferring movies) it will freeze for sure. This could be lack of RAM even though you only need 64MB (she has 256MB) as per the box requirements. Could the firewire be affecting everything else even when not in use? Could a windows file be missing? A setting somewhere perhaps? Hardware or software conflict?
After capturing, the video halts every 2-3 second. The problem occurs both when editing, and in the saved video. I´ve tried saving and capturing in different formats
It gets to "Installing Devices" then goes to BSOD with: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP 0x0000000A (0x00000010, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x8051AA58) I've swapped out the video card and tweaked every setting I can find in BIOS to no avail. There are no BIOS settings for cache or shadowing. Does anyone have any thought as to why XP won't load but 7 will?
Hardware is Dell Latitude D630 currently running XP Pro. There is so much rubbish on the hard disk, I want to perform a clean install of XP and start again. However, when I boot off the XP CD, system halts on blue and white screen with the following messages. "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to protect your computer." Then 3 paragraphs of how to fix it which don't work. Then: Technical information
I was trying to fix problems with my flash player installations and was reading about registry editing that was supposed to be done (hclass_root). I tried to make the changes and got nervous about it. I wanted to back out but instead I clicked OK. Now my machine boots up to Window logo and stays there instead of showing the users list.
I start computer and during windows xp logo booting screens the monitor will go blank (orange light by monitor power button) and keyboards lights will turn off numlock caps and scroll lock will not turn them back on and the little light on my wireless usb mouse reciever goes out. however the pc front lights disc tray and network lights remain on and fan is still going. but sometimes i do manage to get passed the startup (10% of the time) and into windows for about 10-30 minutes before the same blank screen freeze up happens. i know its not totally a videocard monitor issue because not just the monitor goes blank everything stops responding......
Have rebuilt my desktop, new mobo, 160G HD, 1G Ram. Mobo is a fujitsu that is listed on the HCI, but needs external video card - using Geforce. Win XP-SP2 from Tiger/OEM version. Did the install/format Hd, install finishes, restarts and does a particial boot -- Win XP main screen comes on, then screen flashes over to a poor quality XP main screen, and halts. Restart in Safe Mode, boot starts but when main screen should appear, horiz. lines and blue text type symbols, as if Geforce video card not being functional.
I came in the other morning to a computer warning: UNABLE TO WRITE TO VOLUME G and I knew it was going to be a bad day! In a nut shell:My XPSP1 machine makes it to my desktop wallpaper and then hangs. No icons or task bar or start button. Though the HD lght stays solid, it is active and may be accessed via a networked computer but XP doesn't finish loading. Safe mode is no different except I see a blank screen instead of wallpaper Though I can browse the XP CD through Task manager, nothing will run and attempts to run any file will return a NO PROGRAM ASSOCIATED error The PC will not boot from or even try to start up the XP CD. (just spins up) The six XP startup diskettes downloaded from MS hangs up here or there every time and fails to boot.
I am having some problems with web browsing in Windows XP. I use Mozilla Firefox and whenever I try to browse for certain websites in google and any search engine, I get a list of a whole bunch of sites. When I click on them, however, I goto some weird links like monster ware or some other sites instead of what I intended and when I try to type in specific URLs, sometimes, it takes three reloads to load an entire page. I have a crappy wireless DSL that connects with 11.0 mbps and everything was fine with web browsing until a few days ago. Any ideas?
My was browsing around and got hijacked. AGHHHH. I seem to have IST.IST Toolbar amoung other things. I ran adaware, spybot and MS antispyware but it keeps coming back
I have a Dell computer running Windows XP. I've noticed that certain websites are not displaying properly; graphics are missing from some pages (not all graphics, just one or two). For example, the banner at the top of nytimes.com will not show. There doesn't seem to be an order to the missing graphics; it seems to be randomly blocking certain graphics, both jpg and gif. If I visit a new site, I do not know if I'm seeing all there is to see
I made a mistake of installing RC1 for IE7 because of tabbed browsing. now since that very day the browsing seems to have gone literally dead on my machine. I haven't done anything else apart from installing this RC1 for IE 7. I can hardly browse pages and all the time major errors are that it TIMED OUT.
Updated to Firefox v3.0.3 but I had problems with BSOD, randomly, when I click on some links, I would just get a blue screen of death with a stop message and saying DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ADDRESS BD2ABD7E base at BD29E00 (or OO I don't know now) Modname: afd.sys and a dumping phisycal memory to disk message,so today I downgraded back to firefox v2.0.0.17 I will write if the BSOD shows again, Oh and I found out that afd.sys is an service pack file located in C:/WINNT/ServicePack Files/i386 so it's a service pack file, but I have the newest service pack.
I was downloading a online game (MapleStory) and browsing the internet while it was downloading. But then everything started lagging and stuff and then froze and I had to restart my computer. When I restarted it, all the icons on the desktop wouldnt work and had no picture. Also when I clicked start and looked under all programs nothings there. All the folders still there too but either its empty or same thing with the desktop. I was lucky enough to be able to get a browser up though and came on to this site through google. im using XP.
browsing the web. It happens in all browsers, Firefox, Internet explorer & netscape. It got me stumpped. I can sign on the net and after I browse a while the internet just times out. And I get domain could not be found, site could not be found, conection was refused or everything locks up. The only way I can go anywhere is sign off, back on and then I can go awhile. This keep happening again & again. Every once in a while everything jut stops
I have a problem that I just can't figure out. I 'll be on the internet, and when I click on a link(not every time), the page that I'm on just freezes. My mouse will indicate that it's busy, but it just stays like that. I first thought it was Spyware Terminator, so I uninstalled it. But to no avail. It did it again. Now remember, it's not every time. I keep a copy of my important files on an external drive, so reinstalling windows is nothing more that a pain in the behind. Which is what I did. I have an oem vesion of Windows MCE, which I've never had any problems with before. So here I am, thinking that I've taking care of the problem, when you guessed it, it did it again. And this is with barely anything installed, because I uninstall almost everything that MCE comes with. And this is where I'm at. I just can't figure out what's causing this to happen. I 've been coming to TSG almost every day for a very long time, because I really learn a lot and enjoy reading the many posts, and the members who respond to them. I didn't include a copy of Hijack this because it did it on a fresh install.
i got amd 5200+x2 brisbane 1x 2gig mem chip win xp spk3 all drivers updated machine full ok but as soon as my wifi 802.11b/g key on net at 54mbps everything slows and web browsing near impossible on IE8 and google cpu runs at 0% most of time ? and temp of cpu 34 and 35 average.
Basically i can play games, watch movies, listen to music, burn DVD's, but the problem seems to start when i simply just browse the internet. after 10-15 minutes i get a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).
I had a problem blue screen had to do a clean install of xp pro. I managed a successful clean install, however, I am now unable to connect to the internet, my wired pc doesnt seem able to automatically obtain the ip address from the netgear router. I am able to connect my vista notebook wirelessly using the router.
While we're waiting for IE7 I thought I try a few of the other browsers. I especially wanted one with tabbed browsing. Does anyone here use and have a view on the Avant?
