Moving System Partition As Shown On Computer Management Console
Sep 20, 2008
I've had some trouble last week were I got the BSOD, due to some problem with the registry, I couldn't find a solution and so bought a new SATA hard drive and installed XP on it (as i couldn't reinstall it on my old one for fear of losing all my files etc). Now however, after moving all my files into the new harddrive (where XP now seems to be), I want to format the old C: drive but the computer management console isn't allowing me to as the "system" partition is still on the old C: drive. In short, is there anyway to move that partition to the new F: drive where the boot partition is?

Yesterday, I had to perform a new installation of Windows XP because I somehow corrupted some system files beyond repair. Now I have everything up and running anew and have made all the Windows updates and it's all honky dory. However, I just went to the Disk Managent Console with the intention of re-assigning drive letter for my storage partitions (not the one that contains Windows) and ran into a problem.I have a partition set up on my main hard disk to use exclusively for Window's pagefile. I have not yet set up Windows to put the pagefile there. This is the next partition after the primary partition that contains the OS. I wanted to set the drive letter of this partition to Z: to get it out of the way in Windows Explorer.

I am trying to install the Print Management Console for Server 2003 R2 So far I have added the role of Print Server to the server. Discovered that the reason Print Management Console wasn't an option in the Admin Tools because you have to install it from Disk 2. Tried to install it and was told that the version of windows I was running wasnt the correct one for this update. Tried updating to R2 (how do you tell if the version your running is R2 or not?) but was told the version of Windows I was running is newer than the one on the disk. All I want is the PMC installed...
1) How do I tell whether I am already running R2 or not?
2) How do I get the PMC on this damn server?

I am having a driver problem, which i find to be very weird. I cannot install, or uninstall a driver, nor can i disable on from device manager. When i try to do any of these I get either a "run DLL as an App has enountered a problem and needs to close" or if trying to do something from device manager, I get Microsoft Management Console has enountered a problem and needs to close. In the first case I believe the file was sysag.api in the second the file causing an error is mmc.exe.

Problem with getting device manager to display.Right click of my computer properties hardware device manager and I get a window titled "Microsoft Management Console" "Snap-in failed to initalize CLSID:{742468FC-4C96-11D0-ABEF-0020A-F6B0B7A}"I get it that something is missing, but what? I've tried going to the MMC to add a snap-in but the same window pops up again. Everything on this PC is exactly the same as my other one except that one has some DVD editting software. But they were both installed and maintained (updated) equally.

Hi, does anyone know of a method to undo the deletion of a parittion that was deleted using Disk Management in XP? Partition Magic wasn't opening correctly, so I used Disk Management to delete a 1 GB swap (logical partition, about in the middle of the physical disk) I searched around the Disk Management tool bar and didn't see anything about "undo"it deleted instantly. No down time to process...
all located within ONE primary partition at the end of physical drive, there were 3 logical partitions: one swap, two NTFS.The two logical NTFS partitions were physically behind the swap partition on the drive. (One 12 GB NTFS partition immediately behind the swap, and a 30 GB NTFS partition behind that) When the swap was instantly deleted, it also *instantly* deleted the 30 GB partition ( < 1 GB free) It left the 12 GB NTFS partition (also < 1 GB free) alone.

I just partitioned my new hard drive to five separate partitions: 1) OS and Program 2) documents, 3) photos, 4)MP3s and 5)movies. I was going to start moving documents into the second partition but have a question about what would be the best way to do this. Should I move the entire Documents and settings folder to the #2 partition? Or is it better to manually move the my documents files for each user to the #2 partition? I was planning on reassigning the appropriate softwares to store their files in partitions 3,4 and 5.

I recently downloaded and installed Apple QuickTime as a part of I-tunes.I-tunes installed in the directory I selected, but Quick Time installed in the program files directory without asking.I am low on space in this partition and want to move it. Norton used to have a utility to do this, but if it is in Systemworks 2004, I can't find it.I would also like to move some other programs.I can't just cut and paste because there are registry entries. Is there a utility for this?I am reluctant to edit the registry manually. Can I cut and paste and then rely on Norton's Win Doctor to find and fix the registry errors?

I am preparing my computer for doing a full pc recovery process. I have had viruses and spyware in the past and still continuing windows errors. I want to wipe my hard drive and recover my pc back to factory HP state. I do not have any recovery discs for it. The recovery disc creator does not work and my laptop has been discontinued and they don't offer any support for it. So I will be using the recovery console partition HP has put on the computer. All of my important data is backed up to an external hard drive. Is this risky at all? Could the process error at all? I don't know if the partition could have been tampered with from all the malware and cleanups I have done to the computer. I am a little worried if something happens,

Immediately it responds with "no valid system partition" and the only option is to exit from the process. How can I get past this to complete the installation?

System crashed last night with a Kernel Stack Inpage Error, but restarted fine ... while diagnosing, I tried to get in to Disk Management through Admin Tools/Computer Management, and received the error, "Unable to connect to Logical Disk Manager service". I checked, and the service was disabled (why?), so I set it for manual and restarted it, still received the error.Oddly, I was able to start it from a command prompt, which then allowed it to start from Admin Tools. What just happened here? Is that service normally disabled? If not, what would cause it to become disabled? Could a virus, worm, or rootkit have snuck in?

I have installed a new hard drive and installed a new XP Pro on it. I kept the old XP Home for some time untill I'm happy with the new installation. The old XP Home was on drive C and the new XP Pro is on drive E. I am now ready to reclaim drive C disk space and tried formatting it. However, it appers as the "system" drive, while the new HD (E) appears as "boot". I realized I wont be able to format it until I make E drive system and boot together (which usually appears as "system"). Eventually, I would prefer that the new disk will be labeled C

My daughter bought a new computer (DELL with WIN XP) She asked me to take the files from her old (hardly working) computer, which had WIN 98, and get them onto the new computer. This didn't prove as easy as it sounded. The floppy drive didn't work on the old one, and no CD burner.I zipped the folders and mailed them to her Yahoo email (which can be openned on my computer and her new one), then openned and unzipped them on MINE and burned them on a cd.This worked good, but the FAVORITES folder couldn't be burned on a cd, it kept saying the file names (urls) were too long and if burned it wouldn't work after. So, I left that unzipped in her email. Today, she unzipped it, and (as I suggested) copied and pasted the folders/url links from the old favorites folder into the new one. This works, they open in the folder (in MY DOCS) but they don't show on the desktop, like START>FAVORITES I think in XP there is a different way of showing this (I haven't looked at it much and have never used anything over 98SE, myself).Anyway, is there a way of getting the favorites (urls and those in folders) into the favorites on the new (XP) computer so they show up like the new ones she is putting in? I looked in google and one place said to export the old FAVORITES folder to a floppy (I couldn't do, it didn't work) and then IMPORT it in the new one.If it has to be imported (and not dragged, or copy/pasted) can't it be imported from the unzipped folder or somewhere else?
Is it too late to save on a floppy (from the unzipped folder on the new computer) and import it, if it has to be done that way? I have been thinking of it like fonts. you can install fonts, but you can also unzip them and drag them into the fonts folder and they seem to go in and work just as well. Can favorites (links) be dragged or copy/pasted into the FAVORITES folder on the new computer and have them show up in FAVORITES on the desktop? Maybe it has to be shut down and restarted first? Maybe I'm missing something. I've never done this before, but putting the old FAVORITES in the new FAVORITES folder seemed like it would work. The original files/folders have been deleted from the old computer. They are in Yahoo mail as a zip file and can be unzipped and are all there. Can they be exported to a floppy from there? Then imported into the Favorites folder, if it has to be done that way?
