Mouse Cursor Jump Back Up Automatic
Mar 21, 2006
OK, I don't know *what's* going on, I'm just hoping it isn't a virus. Whenever I'm typing, be it an email, posting on a board like this etc, my cursor will suddenly jump back up a few lines or even way back up into the subject title field. It's very annoying, as I've got to constantly mouse to where I belong to fix typing over previous sentences.

The cursor to suddenly begin to wander around the screen? Do I have an infection of some sort. I have Norton system works protecting my machine supposedly. I also am running road runner which means my machine is on line continuously. This is driving me crazy and is becoming a pain in the bottom in view of the fact that I am an online professor with several courses currently underway.

All of a sudden my mouse and cursor seem to be working against each other. When I use mouse to point cursor at something the cursor remains in place. I have to keep moving mouse up and down and around in circles until cursor finally locks on and I can then point it to where I want to go. Needless to say this is really frustrating.

I have a ibm think pad with windows xp on. It will boot upto the windows xp loading screen with the loading bar and then when it should move onto the log on screen it brings up a blank page with a small mouse cursor. When i boot it up in safe mode it comes up with a bigger mouse cursor. I have tried pressing control alt delete and buttons like space bar to see if they work but still nothing.

I have an old IBM Thinkpad R51 (loaded with Windows XP) which kept going through the boot up sequence without coming up all the way. I had got it back to the factory default setting and now it is booting all the way to the desktop screen. But I have a new problem: the cursor (laptop mouse pad) is frozen. I was able to move it around as it was booting up but once it boots up to the desktop screen the cursor is stuck in the middle of the screen.
I would load the XP service pack but because of the cursor I can't.

I have been using my Wacom tablet mouse for quite sometime & beginning to feel agitated. I can be typing & then suddenly the cursor will move to another are that I've typed. Which breaks up my sentence & I have to always proof read & undo what has been typed. I'd sure appreciate some feedback on this. Could my computer be hacked as I'm also using wifi {not my router like I normally do} & I've noticed that lately I have alot of users connected to my connection? I'm confused?

I finally got my new PC but I have an issue that's bugging me. When I have been copying lots of files to my main drive or any other HD intensive operation like installing software, mp3s I'm listening to judder and the mouse cursor momentarily freezes or if im copying gigs and gigs the system slows down so much that i just cant do anything else. I am running xp pro x64 and have a mirrored raid setup using two 320 gig drives. I have 4 gigs of ram and a core2 6600. I've never had this problem on my 2 year old other pc. I'm sure there is some kind of configuration problem but ill be damned if i know what it is.

So yesterday my computer suddenly started getting slow, so I rebooted. When the machine boots, it's all fine, but just after the Windows loading screen, the screen goes black, and the only thing that's active is the mouse cursos which I can move. But I can't right click or anything etc.I can't bring up the Task Manager. I try loading in safe mode but it's still all black, with the expection that the text "Safe mode" is written around the black screen. So what I did was I got a Ultimate Boot CD and loaded from it. I managed to roll back my windows registry to 2003 (manufactor fresh), and now windows actually loaded and I didn't get the black screen anymore, however obviously it was all a complete mess having a registry from so long ago, so I backup rolled it back to the current again, and the black screen returned.
With that logic, shouldn't it be possible to do some tweaks to the registry to solve this issue? I'm a complete beginner and I barely even know the function of the registry. Everything i've tried so far i've just managed to google and follow step by step instructions, so bare with me. But judging from the tools in the Ultimate Boot CD, I can access the windows registry. So basically, where do I take it from here?

When I use the right mouse button, the menu that should appear doesn't. It
is invisible until I scroll the mouse cursor over where it should be. I
changed the appearance from XP to Classic and back. That changed the drop
down menus back. They were doing the same thing.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000. I find the cursor involuntarily slipping back while typing and also the scroll function of the tough pad not functioning. Dell had got the touchpad replaced. The problem is continuing. The slipping back is now less frequent. I had downloaded the driver for the touch pad. Then the scrolling revived. [On downloading the driver, the Mouse Properties had 10 tabs as against 5 earlier including the tab "scrolling"]. But again I have now only five tabs in the Mouse Properties. Can any of you help me to get over these to problems?

I finally broke down and went from W2K Pro to XP Pro on my new build. Almost all my apps have installed just fine but two that I need will not. They are NetObjects Fusion 7 and Adobe Elements 2.0. Both are fairly new, around 2002 or 3 releases and both are rated for XP but once I launch the setup.exe the hourglass shows for about 5 seconds and then goes back to the standard cursor. I checked the Task Manager and in both cases setup.exe is loaded and running and I have to End Process to try the setup again but the same thing happens each time to both apps. They both installed fine and I've been using them for years on my W2K Pro machine.

I had the box checked on the computers on my network to automatically go to daylight savings time. Because of a particular application, I decided that I didn't want to automatically switch back to standard time at 2:00 AM. I would do it manually later. So I unchecked the box on the server and all of my PCs on the 28th. When I got ready to make the manual change around 5:00 AM on the 29th, they were all already on standard time. Does this mean that the box only affects going to daylight savings time and that it will always revert to standard time?

I have a laptop here with an apparently dead CD drive, that needs a fresh OS load. Has anyone ever successfully loaded XP from a USB jump drive. I don't want to boot XP from the jump drive, but rather want to install it to the systems hard drive, using the usb jump drive.
all advice appreciated. If there is no method to do this, how hard is it to set it up to run over the network. I have imaged my XP cd to a .iso file. Can probably convert it if need be...

I recently had some nasty spy/malware on my computer and it took me some time to get rid of it and I noticed today that I have Broadjump Client Foundation among my Programs list under Add/Remove Programs. I also am getting what I think is a bogus spyware popup alert every now and then that reads something like: Critical System Warning. Your system is probably infected with latest version of Spyware.CyberLog-X more spelling/ grammar errors and then an option to "donwload antispyware software". I'm wondering if it's that Broadjump Client Foundation because I don't recognize that at all.

xp pro sp2 automatic updates enabled. My computer restarts automatically after shut down. This happens sometimes immediately, sometimes after a delay of up to 10 minutes. I tried using third party shut down programs, but that did not help. However if I let the computer go into hibernate, it shuts down and does not restart. I do not have Roxio installed, and in the settings for startup and recovery the automatic restart is disabled.

I got a new computer and I have been having problems with my mouse. I have a simple optical wired mouse. During random times, my mouse click freezes, although my mouse can move and I can use the key board at this time, I cannot click or focus anything. To fix the problem I can control alt delete and exit the Task Manager, this fixes the problem.

I have searched around a bit to see if others have ran into this problem, but I have had no luck so far. When I start my computer, it pops up with the standard menu it uses when an OS error has caused a restart. I can't get it too load windows using safe mode, last known good configuration, or normal mode. I never even see the windows loading screen, it restarts immediately.

I did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again. How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.

I bought my Dell 4700 about 6 months ago and was just going through the discs that came with it. I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?

Are you guys having the same problem? Using IE7, when viewing a thread, if I hit the back arrow to go back to the page I was previously viewing, it doesn't move at all. It started acting weird a couple of days ago when it took sometimes two hits on the back arrow to go back. Now it doesn't go back to the previous page at all.

Is it possible I have some type of virus that is causing this multi-clicking of the mouse when I only click once. I did a full system scan with Norton and nothing is found.

I'm responsible for several Windows XP Pro computers running SP3. For some strange reason the cursor on the Welcome Screen disappears intermittently. This happened well before the installation of SP3. I've Googled my heart out looking for a solution but couldn't find anything substantial. Some blame a rogue windows update which I've uninstalled. Some have also said the fault lies with Fast User Switching which I've now disabled. The problem is still present, though. I know I can do CTL+ALT+DEL twice but this is a hindrance to the less tech savvy folks on my staff.

I'm running Windows XP Home SP2 on a Dell Dimension 4600 w/ 2.4 ghz processor and 1.5 GB of RAM. I also have dual monitors with my desktop expanded across both screens. Usually when I am loading huge programs the mouse cursor will freeze in place. The mouse still works, but the cursor doesn't move (so i can still click on things by guessing where the cursor would be). However, the cursor will only freeze on one of the two screens. When I drag the "ghost cursor" over to the other screen, it shows up again and works fine on the opposite screen (but still doesnt work on the original screen). Also, if I'm really unlucky the cursor will disappear on one screen and then eventually on the other screen as well. I ran spyware and anti-virus scans, and spyware was clean but AVG anti-virus "identified virus Java/OpenStream". I don't know if that has anything to do with the cursor problem. Also, sometimes when loading programs I get an "EAccessViolation" and I have no idea if that has anything to do with this problem. If I did a bad job explaining the problem, I have the exact same problem as this guy:

I am having this new cursor and I don't know where and what program initiated it and how to remove it. I am including a picture that outlines the cursor. What is it and where did it come from? I must disable it. It is SERIOUSLY hindering my performance with quick copy paste as the cursor is now offset from my old one so I always grab too far to the left.
