Motherboard Network Card

Mar 17, 2006

I have an ethernet port that is physically connected to my motherboard. For some reason, when I formatted my main drive, and re-installed Windows XP, it will not detect it no matter what I do. I tried searching for new hardware through Windows as well, but nothing seems to be working. Luckily, I have an ethernet card laying around that I wasn't using, so that's how I'm connecting to the internet right now. A little bit about my system: I am connected to a Linksys WRT4G router, which is connected to my cable modem. When I plugged in the ethernet card that I had laying around, it found it right away and is working fine. I'm just that kind of person that feels if it isn't working how it's supposed to work I get all cranky. My type of motherboard is listed in my sig.

NO Network Card Can Start

May 30, 2010

During the day, my internet connection died, actually, my NIC did sort of got error 10.I tried to uninstall and re-install it, and it seems to go back but then I get the error code 10.I installed a new Belkin USB NIC and it installed fine but also returns error code 10. I installed a Hawking USB NIC and it installed Ok, but returns error 10. I installed an old 802.11b SohoWare PCI card, and it installs fine, but returns error 10. I installed a Marvell Yukon 88E8052 PCI-E ASF Gigabit Ethernet Controller and it installed fine, just still get the error 10. I un-installed each NIC that didn't work and re-booted before installing the next. This all sounds like a virus that can attack any network device, as any form of network device fails on error 10.If I didn't have a few computers laying around,I couldn't make this post.I also checked all services between the computers, networking settings, group policies, BIOS settings, etc. to look for something different on the bum machine, but nothing is obvious that caused the one machine to allow a NIC to be installed, but then cannot be used. (I'm running XP-Pro, SP2)

Remove Network Card

Jan 29, 2009

I have an unused Belkin PCI network card installed in my desktop XP pc. I don't want to see it listed at all under the Network Adapter listing in Device Manager. I understand that I can easily disable it, and have done that by right clicking on the drop down list and selecting Disable. I have also selected Uninstall but of course every time the pc is booted up again it finds the device and it reappears listed within the Network Connections again. Is there any way short of actually physically removing the card from the pc to actually uninstall the card "for good" and prevent it from showing up in Device Manager and Network Connections again?

Network Card Driver Not Found

Apr 7, 2008

After reinstalling Windows XP Home edition on my PC I have found that a driver for the Network Card could not be found (see attached file containing pics). In Device Manager the network card does not appear under network adapters but instead under other devices as an Ethernet Controller with a yellow question mark and exclaimation point. Unfortunately, Windows does not appear to have a driver and I can't connect to the internet to search for one.I tried installing DriverGuide which says the device is an "82551 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Controller" made by Intel.

Win 2000 Freezes When Network Card Enabled At Bootup

Dec 21, 2005

A client has a win2k SP4 box that connects wirelessly using a Linksys WMP55AG card to a Linksys WRT54G. I have scanned the box with Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, HijackThis, and AVG. I have emptied all temp directories and caches. I used RegTweak to address registry inconsistencies, and have run LSPFix and FixWinsock. Now, if I boot the machine with the network card enabled, it connects fine to the router, gets internet access and runs fine, for about 2 minutes. Then, the machine freezes and becomes 100% unresponsive. The only way to resolve this is to power down explicitly. Now, if I boot up and disable the network card, even after it has connected, then the machine does not freeze. And, if I wait a few minutes, and then re-enable the network card and allow it to connect, it does and yet it does NOT freeze. At all. It has been useful now for over five hours. If I restart the machine with the card enabled, it will freeze again after two minutes. I do not think that it is an issue with the card as it would freeze regardless of when the connection is made. There are also no entries in the event logs that pertain to this in the least.

Can't Shut Computer Down - Connect To Internet Via Network Card

I tried to install ZoneAlarm last week which crashed during the installation. This has caused multiple issues:1 - Can't shut computer down - I can get to the "log off", "shut down" and "restart" option of which none do anything so I'm forced to unplug as the power on/off doesn't work either. I've checked the power management options and these are normal.2 - Can't connect to the internet via my network card. Replaced the card as the network cable works on laptop and though it was the card but no luck(Modem goes to router which splits to 2 PC's and laptop

Installing Drivers For Graphics And Wireless Network Card Drivers

Jan 1, 2006

Whenever i install drivers on my pc, (i've tried graphics card drivers and wireless network card drivers) my pc stops working. When i installed the graphics card drivers, i tried testing the graphics on a game (counter-strike) but as soon as i got into the game, the pc flashes a blue screen, and reboots. I cant see what the blue screen says because it flashes on and off again to quick for me to read it. I decided to uninstall the graphics card drivers, and the game worked perfectly, but the graphics were REALLY bad. So i thought i might need to update some other drivers, so i tried to install my wireless network card, but when i finished installing the drivers when i had to restart my computer, it flashed the BSOD.... AGAIN! I need help urgently as im going to a LAN gaming comp called "rezidue" and its on in 2 weeks, i need my pc fixed by then! All these problems started when i upgraded my CPU. Everything was running smooth, and i was happily playing along on my computer, when i was asked what my FPS was in counter-strike, and i was all "mine are 65!" and there like "wow that sucks, mines 130" so i set out on my epic quest to get better FPS then everyone else and MAN THAT WAS A MISTAKE. I upgraded from my celeron 2.8ghz cpu to a P4 3.0ghz HT cpu, and thats when things started messing up on me. My entire system is as follows (incase it can help someone help me) P4 3.0ghz HT CPU, Microstar P4 motherboard, 128mb Nvidia Geforce mx4000 AGP x8 graphics card, 256MB ddr ram (recently brought new 1GB ddr ram off ebay just for rezidue! should be here soon!) TP-LINK 54mbps wireless network card) And last but not least

Modem Card Replaced With Ethernet Card - Wont Boot Properly

Nov 9, 2006

Firstly I have a pc which I installed Win XP Prof onto. All worked great. Then took out modem card and replaced with ethernet card. Again no problem. However, when I went to boot the compute up a week or so later it went through the boot process and then just before I would expect to see the Windows logo with blue sky background appear I "sometimes" get a blue screen flash up with a message which you cant read unless you can slow down time and then the PC restarts and goes through the whole procedure again.
I did manage to start in Boot logging mode and watch to see where the problem was. It seemed to be something to do with the Display adaptor. I found the appropriate solution on the web and although I now get further on into the boot, it still restarts. When i try to run the logging thing (!) it does not want to play any more and just boots in the normal fashion. I have tried defaulting the BIOS, checking the file system for damaged sectors etc all to no avail.

Mapped Network Drives Without Connecting The Network Cable?

Oct 13, 2009

I need to have network drive on my Windows XP computer. In order for a software to work, there needs to exist a network drive, named N, existing on my PC. Since there's not a second PC to link to, what I did was to created a directory named est on the same PC , share it out, and then, map a network drive, named N, to it. When my PC has an Ethernet cable connected to a switch, Windows XP will see that N drive (existing on the same PC). The moment I disconnect that Ethernet cable from the switch, the N drive is gone. Is there a way to have a mapped network drive on XP (as mentioned above), without the need to have a network cable connecting that PC to a switch?

I'm only used to nForce drivers (a single download), and this is just painful by comparison!I've already made 2 failed attempts to install the drivers, with no success. Which drivers do I need?
