I have some I need to post to find some help on how to get rid the Messenger
Service messages that keep popping up, they have just ablocked me out on line.
The first thing is I keep getting a 'Windows Installer' box popping up which says 'preparing to install' when I check my Hotmail emails. This problem began after I had a windows update which turned out to be an upgrade to Service Pack 3, last week. As soon as I've clicked cancel on the Windows Installer box, I get an alert from ZoneAlarm saying Windows Messenger is requesting to access the internet.
The first time it happened I just let the installer do what it was trying to as I thought the service pack upgrade had made changes to some settings. But then it happened again as soon as I opened the next email (I only open emails from people who I know like my close friends or family by the way). So I'm presuming there's a problem somewhere?
I did! they are annoying and pop up all the time! The title bar calls them "Messenger Service" and their ads, usually for getting pop up stopper softwares's, and some other crap. FirstlyStart > Run> Type: services.mscwhen the Services window pops up scroll down to "Messenger" the description is "Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This service is not related to Windows Messenger. If this service is stopped, Alerter messages will not be transmitted."Righ click go to Properties and in startup type select "DISABLE"DON'T worry this has nothing to do with Windows/MSN Messenger instant messenging programs

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the default installation of XP, the Messenger service runs by default. Messenger in Windows 2000/XP is similiar to the functionality of what "WinPopup" was to Win3.x/9X. However, having this service running will cause problems in the very near future, as ANYONE can send popup messages to your computer when you have this service running. (The service doesn't check where the message comes from). Don't believe it? At the command prompt, type "net send IPADDRESS_OF_CLIENT_TO_SEND_TO Your Message" and that person will get a popup window immediately with "Your Message" .. the popup window will says "Messenger Service" in the titlebar and will contain your workstation's name and the time. You can send a message to yourself by typing "LOCALHOST" to test this.Another thing worth noting, if you are using a Microsoft firewall, these messages will still be sent through the firewall. To make it so others cannot send these messages to you, disable the Messenger service from Services. (Go to Control Panel > Perf. & Maint. > Administrative Tools > Services. Double click the Messenger Service, change 'Automatic' to 'Disabled' and click the Stop button.) Once you've done this, people trying to send messages via the net message service will get errors. While you're at it, it might be wise to disable the 'Administrative Alerts' service as well. The description Microsoft gives for this service is as follows: "Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and servers. This service is not related to Windows Messenger. If this service is stopped, Alerter messages will not be transmitted. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start."

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP on a HP Pavilion ze2000.I think I have a problem with Windows Live Messenger. Actually, I think I have several problems:
1. Messenger tries to load in my tray when I start the computer. It never did this before. It also does the same when I connect to my broadband via dialler. At the moment I am denying access through Zone Alarm. Is this normal?
2. In All Programmes I have a Windows Messenger Icon and a Windows Live Messenger Icon. Again, is this normal? There is only an option to remove Live Messenger in Add or Remove Programmes.
3. There is a "1 contact pending" message above the contact list in my Live Messenger, which leads to a "page not available" message when I click on it.
3. When I close Live Messenger, I get multiple "RPC Server Not Available" warnings which I keep closing but keep reappearing. They appear too fast for me to close them, so I have to restart my machine.
I have WinXP Media Center, am using yahoo DSL internet at a rate of 1.5 mbps, and use firefox as my default browser. In the past few days, I've noticed that every once and a while AOL will start and ask for me to put in my password when I didn't start it or ask for it to start. It usually happens when I open a webpage, like every 5 pages I open AOL will pop up randomly. I'm not subscribed to their service, it came with the computer. When I close it after it pops up I can't open a webpage in firefox and need to close and re-start a firefox browser for me to open a webpage again.

Same thing happens with both my laptop and destop, but not with my wife's laptop. Did some research and others were saying to disable other usb devices on the usb bus, I went in the Device manager section and did that, plus killed some processes to no avail. Even disabled all wireless cards, etc..

I'm having lots of troubles with USB 2.0 support. My mother board is a ASUS P5GD2 Premium, which only has USB 2.0 ports but my Windows XP SP2 keeps popping up this error! I have some drivers, but they don't install because XP SP2 should already support USB 2.0. Maybe the cables that connect the USB ports are the problem.

Problem is she is more or less computer illiterate and since she lives on the other side of the country from me I cant fix it myself. I would like to avoid having to walk her through the removal over the phone since it deals with the registry and random file names, it would make it a pain to find. Are there any programs out that can remove it? Nortons will only do it part way so it re-installs after reboot.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently moved out on my own and though I'm fairly knowledgeable regarding my laptop and its programs, I am not that familiar with repairing problems. I am having a consistent problem with system 32 folder popping up everytime I turn my computer on. I had this problem one other time and managed to trouble shoot my way out of it. But this time, try as I may I cannot get the darn thing to stop. I did bring up the I did the ctrl, shft & esc all at the same time and brought up my task manager and the first thing I noticed was that there were three things listed. The first was a foxfire logo followed by the words for whatever I'm searching for. like now it says tech Support Guy Forums - post new thread....Running. Under that is a square followed by the word Address, under that is another box followed by the words Quick Launch. I'm not sure what to do to get rid of the consistent popping up of system 32. It's just an irritating little sound and action.
