Installer Popping Up After Service Pack Upgrade / Plus Slow Boot?

The first thing is I keep getting a 'Windows Installer' box popping up which says 'preparing to install' when I check my Hotmail emails. This problem began after I had a windows update which turned out to be an upgrade to Service Pack 3, last week. As soon as I've clicked cancel on the Windows Installer box, I get an alert from ZoneAlarm saying Windows Messenger is requesting to access the internet.
The first time it happened I just let the installer do what it was trying to as I thought the service pack upgrade had made changes to some settings. But then it happened again as soon as I opened the next email (I only open emails from people who I know like my close friends or family by the way). So I'm presuming there's a problem somewhere?

I've been battling it out with a filth ridden computer for days,appear to be almost on top of it. It is completely clean of virii/malware/spyware I just installed SP2 on it, and since then it has been exceptionally slow to boot.Following the initial boot screen, the screen goes blank for over 2 minutes It then gets to the black screen with the grey progress bar along the bottom. It takes at least 5 minutes to get through this progress bar.

Last week my father gave me his computer which is a 2 year old Dell running Windows XP Pro. It works great but this weekend I realized he never did Windows upgrades and only is using Service Pack 1, he never installed Service Pack 2.
Question: What types of problems might I encounter if I do all the up to date Windows upgrades including Service Pack 2 at this late date?

I have a Dell Latitude c840 Laptop which I love - especially as it has a superb 1600*1200 resolution on the monitor... however, it came with and still runs XP Pro on Service Pack 1.Having read loads of bad press about compatibility issues with XService Pack 2, I decided a year ago not to upgrade - but now I feel I am missing out on the new features in that release etc.So, I want to try an upgrade. I have installed (successfully, I thought) Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, but apparently not. My computer (Dell laptop) was first incredibly slow, then would not launch IE, and now will not even boot up. It never gets past the blue "Welcome" screen.

my girlfriend had been adamant about not updating her computer because she claimed that is a way to get viruses.I scoffed and updated it anyway.I downloaded almost 2 years worth of updates over a two week period, the last update was the XP Service Pack 2 update.The very first time the computer was started after her SP2 update it loaded extremely slowly. The mouse doesn't work correctly (I can only right click) and most programs are inaccessible. I tried to System Restore (which is no easy task without a mouse) but it fails each time. I ran a virus scan with AVG but had no luck finding any infections.

I keep getting a windows installer popup window whenever I open ANY program. It says that �The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the disk and click OK. There is nothing listed in �Use Source�. I can�t tie it to anything I have done recently. I have Windows XP SP2.

Once I installed sp3, I could not get past the windows loading screen, so I started in safemode and uninstalled sp3 that way. My question is, does uninstalling sp3 remove sp2 as well. I can not see sp2 under add/remove programs, but my windows update history says I downloaded sp2 last May.

I have had Windows XP on my computer for 3 years, during that time I have had no problems with updates. A couple of days ago updates were running when I got the following message box. Service pack 3 setup. Access denied1! Microsoft will now un-install the current updates. At this point I was in a hurry to leave and shut off my computer thinking that when I started up again, the updates would resume their activity.......

Im not willing to lose this information again. Ive been working for a company called Eidos, for about 2 weeks now, and well, im a modeller ( 3d Studio Max, for those who dont know, look it up ) And well, I've got about 20,000+ If not, a lot more value is held of information stored on this PC. And I am a key point to some of the upcoming titles they may be bringing out, DONT ask me for what games will be released AS I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TELL YOU for lawful reasons
Moving on to the problem side of things, a friend of mine, suggested a program to me, to clean up my computer a little bit as, well.. it started to slow up on me this morning, and so, i did, i cleaned it up with this software, and great, the PC was running a hell of a lot faster, mind my language, i know. But yes, i started to use this software and thought it was great ( RegSeeker ) But now, since ive used it, my Windows Installer has... well, i wouldnt say died, but just stopped working Uninstalling / Installing I get this error message

I try to install Word 2000 on my new Dell with Windows Home XP, I get a message that "Windows Installer service could not be accessed. You may be running in safe mode or Windows Installer may not be correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assitance." I know I'm not running in safe mode, and microsoft responded with an email telling me to re-register the windows installer "at my own risk"

Try to install office 2003 and msn messenger - i got error msg prompt me, Windows Installer The window Installer service could not be accessed. I couldn't get my XP64 box to install anything through troubleshooting,I found that SOMEHOW the Windows Installer Service isn't running.I d/l'd and ran the XP64 bit Installer Service Update, but still no joy. Checking the registry showed me that the HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesMSIServer entry is missing completely.

I had noticed that I could copy but not paste. For example, I could right click an icon on the Desktop and copy it, but using Ctrl-V or right-clicking on the Desktop to Paste did not work. In fact, the option is not even highlighted in the shortcut menu. Even to drag and drop an item from one folder to another is not possible. However, I can copy and paste text, like copying and pasting a sentence is MS Word. I also found out that I cannot install any programs on this same computer. This is the exact error message I get when trying to install Ad-Aware:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance. "

Explorer.exe was NOT running and could not be started from Start > Run in Task Manager. However, it WAS possible to go through Browse and open files and existing programs that way.Managed to fix that by uninstalling various Google products like Desktop, Updater and Toolbar. Somehow, this enabled all programs I tried to run. The customer only had IE 8 on machine. Could open a Web Page in Word which made me suspicious why IE could not establish connection even after resetting etc etc. Found safari and managed to get on Web fine. Removed Google products as mentioned and all seemed fine.As IE still playing up decided to re-install it. All fine except that "checking your computer for malicious software" had red x next to it. Hmm, I thought.IE also keeps sending me on strange redirects (no other browser does) so suspected Malware.

So something is wrong with Windows installer. Any time I try to install something, I get the error message: "Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. You may be running in safe mode or Windows Installer may not be correctly installed. " I've tried all of the suggestions on the Microsoft support website, but either I'm not smart enough to figure out what they mean

I have 32 bit edition and therefore need to download Service Pack as I understand Microsoft will no longer support Service Pack 2 after JULY 13.

I have service pack 3 on my desktop pc with windows xp. is it possible to downgrade to service pack, my wireless usb adapter will work on it properly, This is what I was told to do by a tech at Linksys just now, although it worked fine last night, they know they have issues with service pack 3 on xp, and have not got a driver working yet for service pack So they told me to downgrade my pc to service pack 2 until they do have a good driver
