Mar 4, 2008
I have a wierd problem on my PC (running Windows Media edition 2005, essentially Windows XP !!). Whenever I boot my computer I get the following error from System32:svchosts.exe System32:svchosts.exe - Entry Not found The procedure "_aed_fptan" in the DLL "MSVBVM60.DLL" not found Once I say "OK", everything works well and the computer does not complain again until I shut it down and restart the computer. I have the Original OS from Sony with all the latest updates. I also tried to install Service pack 3 from the Windows site. I also tried to fix the registry and reinstalled MSVBVM60.DLL from the Windows site , but some how the error keeps poping up.

Every time I put it in the system32 folder, it changed into msvbvm60.dll.xxx (xxx = random digits) I need msvbvm60.dll for an application that won't work unless it's installed... it gives me "Unable To Locate Component - This application has failed to start because MSVBVM60.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I've installed VB6 but it still has the same problem.

I had a search on this problem and realise it's prevalent but I haven't found anything that solves the problem yet.A few days ago I had the missing hal.dll problem come up. I went through various 'fixes' without any luck. However in the end I was able to reinstall XP Pro and keep the files from the previous install.Today, however, I'd left my PC for a bit and when I came back I put in a CD I wanted to look at but when I used explorer to look at the CD drive it only showed files from the previous CD i had in. Then suddenly I got a message saying something about input/output. The PC froze and I had to reset. I got an error message along the lines of missing NTLDR file.

So my sister gets hold of a computer in the house and ruins it, and here is the dilemma I am facing: I turn on the computer and right away i come to this message....
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
windowssystem32configSYSTEM
Attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the Original CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts.
I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.

Each time I log in to IE 7, (version 7.0.5730.11) I get the following message:"Internet Explorer is currently running without add-ons". All Internet Explorer add-ons, such as ActiveX controls or toolbars, are turned off. Some webpages might not display correctly. To continue to your home page, click the Home button. To browse using add-ons, close Internet Explorer and then start it again." (does nothing)When I check under "Tools" and see "Manage Add Ons", it is gray and cannot be opened. I suspect I may have inadvertently removed a file when I last ran RegScrub XP, but I can find no way to fix this situation, so that I again go directly to my home page when starting IE. This all started after I downloaded the Dogpile toolbar, which I've since uninstalled.

I was trying to solve a problem I was having with startup today..and I opened my computer (Windows 200 Pro. HP computer) and lo and behold. I found my 2 auxilary and backup drives...no problem..not quite what I needed..but then I go looking for my Main C: drive....and it's gone? I checked the whole thing, found the CD-RW drive, CD-r drive, extra device storage and floppy devices....and both of those extra dives..mother board, power supply, and the fans...but that main drive still eludes me.

Windows XP-P. Suddenly the language task bar disappeared. I tried all options in regional language setting, not succesful. I have unchecked the "Turn off advanced text services", and clicked "apply", and then goto Preferences>Language Bar, but all Options are greyed out, I can't click any one of the 4 options. And when go back to the Advanced setting, the "Turn off advanced text services" went back to checked position.

My grandads cd-rom drive and cdwr drive are missing. There not in my computer or the device manager. I do not know when these went missing because my grandad does not use the drives often. I can still open the cd-rom drive and I can hear it loading, but I cannot open the cdwr drive. I tried a system restore point but that had no effect. So what do I need to do to get the drives back.

just recently i was doing my usual bit and both cd/dvd drives droped out, after vigorous testing i found cdrom.sys and its shared componants refused to mount the drives as the service could not start, so i tried updating the drivers - no drivers more suitable than the ones i already have, my oppinion is the files are corrupt but it seems pretty hard to find replacments without individually going through the entire .cab database on the x64 disk, this is something i wish to avoid just incase its not even the problem.

I have a Athlon X2 4200 with XP installed. I have looked at process manager and I see the one processor is running flat out and the task manager graph says my system is running at approx 50%. Then when i look at the Process list it appears that System Idle Process is using around 99 to 95% of CPU time. There are no other processes listed using significant processing resources. So what is causing my one processor to run at full speed without being visible in Task manager?

I can't open some .exe files. I'm trying to install some drivers on a pc with xp, but for some reason when I click on the setup.exe file, nothing happens, it doesn't open or run. I thought that the driver was corrupted, so I tried to install that same driver on another pc with xp and it worked. I tried to install something else to see if I would get the same problem, at first the little window showing all the files that are being stalled shows for a second or two, then it disapears, it doesn't complete the installation. I should get a message saying that the installation is complete, but I do not get the message and I don't get any error messages, it just does nothing, I've installed this same program succesfully in another pc with xp too, but on this one it won't install. Someone suggested me to update the ms installer and to update net frameworks to the latest version, I did what was suggested, but I still get the same problem. I'm sure i'ts not a virus or spyware because I just made a fresh install of xp and I haven't gone online with that pc and I haven't downloaded anything from the net, even before making the fresh install, I didn't have any viruses or spyware. It seems that for some reason I'm not able to install just certain programs, because I can open and run other .exe files with no problem.

Yesterday my entire computer crashed, and I've been trying to get it back up ever since.
I got the (in)famous "Blue screen of death" telling me some error (it keeps changing now so I'm not sure which one it was) and it shut down. This had happened a few times before (that week) and it had always gone right back to working. This time when I tried to reboot, it gave me the error that "The file could not be found:" and it listed "System32Config" (i think that was it...it might have been a .sys file though. all the errors i get are different from one time to the next. I tried to re-install windows, which failed because it froze during the pre-installation process. I've been continuously trying (and failing) to fix this problem, but nothing seems to be helping.
