View 2 RepliesI decided to uninstall COLDFUSION from my system I confirmed yes to all those popups that say "this file is no longer needed want to delete"? during the uninstall process. Turns out I wiped out some important .dlls that windows needs to start up correctly. I am hung up on a DOS screen that reads:
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windows rootsystem32hal.dll Please re-install a copy of the above file. Where do I find the above dll and if its on the xp CD...where on the XP CD would it be?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had a search on this problem and realise it's prevalent but I haven't found anything that solves the problem yet.A few days ago I had the missing hal.dll problem come up. I went through various 'fixes' without any luck. However in the end I was able to reinstall XP Pro and keep the files from the previous install.Today, however, I'd left my PC for a bit and when I came back I put in a CD I wanted to look at but when I used explorer to look at the CD drive it only showed files from the previous CD i had in. Then suddenly I got a message saying something about input/output. The PC froze and I had to reset. I got an error message along the lines of missing NTLDR file.

So I enter the cd rom and press 'r' for repair, I choose C:windows, however before it can begin to repair it asks me for an 'Administration Password' which I have no idea of after many attempts.
I do not want to have to format the pc since I have some very important files on it. Any help is appreciated.
My printer which I needed to run cleanspl.exe on my system, the tcpmon.ini file in my system32 dir is missing, is there anywhere I can dl this file from as I need my printer back on-line.

(does nothing)When I check under "Tools" and see "Manage Add Ons", it is gray and cannot be opened. This all started after I downloaded the Dogpile toolbar, which I've since uninstalled.

I found my 2 auxilary and backup drives...no problem..not quite what I needed..but then I go looking for my Main C: drive....and it's gone? I checked the whole thing, found the CD-RW drive, CD-r drive, extra device storage and floppy devices....and both of those extra dives..mother board, power supply, and the fans...but that main drive still eludes me.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWindows XP-P. Suddenly the language task bar disappeared. I tried all options in regional language setting, not succesful. I have unchecked the "Turn off advanced text services", and clicked "apply", and then goto Preferences>Language Bar, but all Options are greyed out, I can't click any one of the 4 options. And when go back to the Advanced setting, the "Turn off advanced text services" went back to checked position.

I do not know when these went missing because my grandad does not use the drives often. I can still open the cd-rom drive and I can hear it loading, but I cannot open the cdwr drive. View 2 Replies View Relatedjust recently i was doing my usual bit and both cd/dvd drives droped out, after vigorous testing i found cdrom.sys and its shared componants refused to mount the drives as the service could not start, so i tried updating the drivers - no drivers more suitable than the ones i already have, my oppinion is the files are corrupt but it seems pretty hard to find replacments without individually going through the entire .cab database on the x64 disk, this is something i wish to avoid just incase its not even the problem.

I have looked at process manager and I see the one processor is running flat out and the task manager graph says my system is running at approx 50%. Then when i look at the Process list it appears that System Idle Process is using around 99 to 95% of CPU time. There are no other processes listed using significant processing resources. So what is causing my one processor to run at full speed without being visible in Task manager?

I'm trying to install some drivers on a pc with xp, but for some reason when I click on the setup.exe file, nothing happens, it doesn't open or run. I thought that the driver was corrupted, so I tried to install that same driver on another pc with xp and it worked. I tried to install something else to see if I would get the same problem, at first the little window showing all the files that are being stalled shows for a second or two, then it disapears, it doesn't complete the installation. I should get a message saying that the installation is complete, but I do not get the message and I don't get any error messages, it just does nothing, I've installed this same program succesfully in another pc with xp too, but on this one it won't install. Someone suggested me to update the ms installer and to update net frameworks to the latest version, I did what was suggested, but I still get the same problem. I'm sure i'ts not a virus or spyware because I just made a fresh install of xp and I haven't gone online with that pc and I haven't downloaded anything from the net, even before making the fresh install, I didn't have any viruses or spyware. It seems that for some reason I'm not able to install just certain programs, because I can open and run other .exe files with no problem.

I got the (in)famous "Blue screen of death" telling me some error (it keeps changing now so I'm not sure which one it was) and it shut down. This had happened a few times before (that week) and it had always gone right back to working. This time when I tried to reboot, it gave me the error that "The file could not be found:" and it listed "System32Config" (i think that was it...it might have been a .sys file though. all the errors i get are different from one time to the next. I tried to re-install windows, which failed because it froze during the pre-installation process. I've been continuously trying (and failing) to fix this problem, but nothing seems to be helping.
My friend is missing the top bar on her Internet Explorer. Its not from F11. Something change after a update but she does not know what. A restore was never done and now its been a while. This problem most likely easy to fix I just don't know how.

Windows Messenger has gone missing (The whole program) along with The Calculator and my Sound Volume Control both of which i had to reinstall via the XP disk.I've scanned for virus's and and have come up with nothing, I used to use a vista tranformation pack awhile ago but have since got rid of that. But i think it might have messed with a few things.
