my laptop screen is broken and i added a monitor to startup on , only problem is it loads ok in safe mode and only goes to loading in normal mode and slows down cosiderably
I am running Windows XP on an 8 year old Gateway computer, and it will only start in safe mode. This happened after I updated my hardware drivers.I got a fatal system error box,and system restore doesn't work. When I try to use the Gateway Restore discs, they won't play because my D drive isn't recognized. Should I just scrap everything and get a new HD since I haven't had any luck with reinstalling,or is there a way for a computer idiot to reinstall Windows XP without a disc? I never got one, this was my roommate's old PC.Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
This is not for myself, as you see, I wouldn't be online right now if I couldn't start my computer up.This person that i know is having a start up problem with her computer (windows). Whenever she turns on the computer, it takes her to her computer asking her whether she wants to do safe mode or start windows normally or whatever. Whatever she chose, it took her straight back to that window asking her about that stuff. My information is not sufficient as she is not the kind of patient person even for her own good to explain stuff to me. Secondly, she is not a computer geek.
I've been working on my father's computer (an HP pavillion zv5000), and realized that he had some Windows XP updates to be installed, so I decided to download them. What I didn't realize at the time was that he hadn't installed any updates in almost 2 years (though Automatic Updates appear to be enabled). When I rebooted after the installations were complete, I could not start in Normal Mode. When starting normally, I get a black screen with white writing saying that there's been a problem with the computer (can't remember word-for-word), and gives me the option to start in safe mode, safe mode with networking, and another safe mode. It also offers to start up with the last settings that worked, or normal mode. When I try to boot up in normal mode, it sends me back to that same screen, and likewise when I try to boot with the last settings. Now it only works in Safe Mode. I'm not really sure what's happened, and if it's related to the updates or if it could be a virus.
We have a two year old Toshiba laptop, my son tried to clean the screen and cracked it. I have about 2 inches that I can see.I want to connect it to an external monitor, when I hook it up, I can only see on the external screen until it boots up and then it clicks over to the lap top.
My laptop runs Win XP Pro SP3. Since yesterday, the normal boot does not succeed - but safe mode (with and without networking) are working. I know I am supposed to diagnose the cause in the safe mode, but do not have a clue what the next step ought to be
I have a dell laptop and that will not longer boot. I tried to boot in safe mode. that just keep bringing me to the login to windows screen ( didnt think it supposed to do that in safe mood) i put in the correct passwor for admin and for the local user but it didnt accepting.I tried booting from the xp pro CD and it started to load but then said setup could not complete in safe mode, then it rebooted. I let it reboot a few times and it did the same each time.now when I try to re install the from the xp cd i get a blue screen that says
On my way out to work last night i swithched my laptop off (or should i say hibernate) and came back to it this morning and windows will not start at all not even in safe mode
I have a Toshiba Satellite A15-S129, and it asks me a couple of options on how I want to start it up1)Safe Mode 2) Safe Mode with Networking 3) Safe Mode with Command Prompt 4) Last known Good Configuration 5) Start Windows Normally. None of them work. It goes to the Loading part and a blue screen flashes and then it restarts.
I have a IBM Thinkpad that was setup for use on a domain. I know I have a trojan that has affected my ability to start my computer normally. After I enter in my username and password I let it sit for over eight hours today but I never came to the desktop. I could move the cursor but I never was able to access the desktop
When I tried to access safe mode I don't know any of the local user names or passwords. I also don't know the admin password. What options do I have to access safe mode somehow clear this trojan? I was told I had a trojan before I restarted my computer
It started yesterday, I was playing around on the computer and only downloaded magiciso.I continued to play around. I shut down the computer and it hasnt been the same since. When it 1st started back up..I got this:Address 80410527 base at 80400000 datestamp 45069e6e - ntoskrnl.exe IRQL not less or equal I tried to get into safe mode but nothing.I then tried last good config and it let me in...so I played around to what I thought would fix things..but when I restarted it again..it wont let me in either way now.
My Sony VAIO starts. It's plugged in normally. The power lights flash, it checks the CD-RW drive, and then remains on with the main power light on and the fan on, but the screen remains black and nothing else happens. Windows XP doesn't load. No Sony logo, no "Operating system not found," nothing. It's like it's had a lobotomy.I haven't installed anything new, and the notebook has just been sitting around unplugged for a few days. The last thing I used it for was to burn a CD with Windows Media Player. The only change I can think of is that my USB tablet isn't plugged in.
Very similar to the following problem but i do not have a raid, and it seems that this PC has a raid and i don't, plus it was never really determined what the actual solution was.
The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery. Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: AmdK8 Fips nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?
The USB port on my Laptop has been broken by accident and I would like to know whether it is possible to replace it somehow, by myself. If not, could you please suggest me how it would be possible to have a USB port on my laptop.
i am working on this computer for a customer it has windows xp when you start it up you get the xp splash screen and that's it no user accounts just comes up to a black screen will not start to safe mode no last known good no safe mode with command prompt no safe mode with networking just keep getting black screen.
My computer starts up and then continues in an ifinite restarting cycleWell, when I try to turn my computer on, it starts to load but then goes to a black screen saying some thing like:Your computer encountered a problem...it may have been bacuse of...or power failures...hard driveIt also says to click Safe Mode, Start Windows Normally or Same Configuration with a little timer at the bottomif I press enter for Start Normally or Same Config, it goes to a loading page and then shuts down and restarts going baack to the black screen. Restarting and Restarting and restarting
I've got some particularly nasty stuff on my system (running XP Home Edition), so I want to do a scan in Safe Mode. However, whenever I select safe mode, my screen tells me that the signal is out of range, and underneath that it says "35.5KHz / 87Hz". I have a Sony screen, in case that helps any. I looked around for solutions, but all I found were some fixes for when this happens on normal Windows, which involves going into Safe Mode. So no dice. I also tried VGA, but the picture is so horrible I have no idea what is on the screen.
Running XP Pro and never had a problem. Since last night it has refused to boot. After doing the XP loading screen for normal time, it loads a black screen with the mouse, and nothing else. I've waited over fifteen minutes and it does nothing. After a few clicks, the error speaker beeps and the mouse freezes. Tried loading in safe mode, and it gives a black screen with all the safe mode text around the screen. Anyone had any experience with this?
Updated my computer using automatic updates. I unfortunately didn't pay attention to the updates that were being installed. After a restart, I got the following error:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen sppears again, follow these steps: Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a drive is identified in the stop message, disable the driver of check the manufacturer for driver updates. Check with our hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable any memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then slect safe mode.
I tried booting into "Safe Mode" to defrag my computer. Before it goes into "Safe Mode" I get a blue screen stating that "I must remove improperly installed software to proceed". I have not installed any software. I have replaced my cd-rom burner and it is working properly. Any ideas on how a I may access "Safe Mode"?? I am running 2000 pro. Also is there a way I can see what the "Administrative Password" on Win 2000 pro.? I set up a friends computer with 2000 and I didn't enter a password. Apparently, someone else has entered one but can not remember it, thus their computer is useless without the password.
My dad has a Sony Vaio labtop that he bought from his friend at work with the operating system and all the software already installed. It has a single account named Owner that he clicks on which usually allows him to log-on, he never had a password. He clicks the icon, it appears to start logging on then suddendly it will say logging off, saving settings, then returns us back to the main log-on screen.I tried to start in safe mode by pressing F8 while the computer is intially turning on, but all the labtop does is make this loud beeping noise and starts up normally. No screen appears for me to select safe mode or anything.
it shows HP invent welcome screen, it shows safe mode option screen and then all black screen. Nothing after that Solution I tried already, please read it carefully before any reply1) Hard disk is working okay, I have tried hard disk with another PC and its working fine 2) I have tried to remove all hardware one by one that includes CD-ROM , DVD ROM , card reader, RAM memories, All PCI cards and floppy drive. But even after removal still showing same problem 3) Only thing which I havet tried is processor. Do you guys think I should try that one too. note : booting is from Hard drive and its booting okay in another computer
I'm using windows xp home sp2 and when ever I try to turn on the computer normally it comes up with a blue screen saying something about
C0000218 system32/config/default or log or replacement It is corrupt
then resets the computer (the message is something along those lines) When I try booting into safe mode or safe mode with networking it scrolls txt down the screen then resets the computer. The only way I've got into it so far is with knoppix to backup what will fit of my gbs of files on to my laptop via a pen drive.
. I have a two year old dell dimension e310 desktop computer that has 'never' had a problem...until last night. After installing a game online for my son (from gametap) the game was running very slow and then just froze on the screen. I tried every way to shut the game off...couldn't...it was just stuck. I tried ctl-alt-delete expecting the task manager to appear....nothing... At that point I resorted to just shutting off the main switch. When I turned it back on a couple of minutes later it tried to start normally...then a blue screen comes up that says a 'problem has been detected and windows has been forced to shut down....etc'.. It read it and it instructed me to press f 8 and try to start in 'safe mode'
I am using XP. When I try to start my home computer, the main screen freezes and I can't do anything. On several tries the install screen came up, but not every time. The hour glass comes up and just stays there. Control/Alt/Delete doesn't do anything. I have to manually turn off the computer. I started it in the safe mode and ran Norton and anti spyware programs. They detected nothing. I can't go on AOL or explorer, even in the safe mode. I have a firewall and anti virus is up to date.
My computer is running horribly slow and so I've tried to enter safe mode but I get a blue screen with instructions. It says to check to be sure you have adequate disk space. Says to disable the driver (causing problems) or check with manufacturer for driver updates or try changing video adapters.I cannot get into safe mode at all to run spybot (freezes when in regular mode).I had to type this from another computer. The technical information is:*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0x80537009, 0xF7A2B1B4, 0xF7A2AEB0)Thank you
I have a HP Pavilion ze4530us that is freezing on the startup. I have tried all option available on the Safe Mode screen, ex: Safe Mode, Last Known Good Config., Safe Mode with Networking. Whenever i choose one, it freezes on that screen and stays there. I was going to run a Windows repair
I booted up my computer 3 days ago and logged in under my user name, and there were no desktop icons or taskbar, so I restarted my computer and tried every user, still nothing. I went to msconfig to restore it to a earlier point, and when it restarted I went to my user name, and still nothing so I went to msconfig again and booted it up in safe mode, when it restarted, right before the user names screen came up, a black screen with "SAFE MODE" in all four corners pops up for about 3 or 4 seconds, then the user name screen comes up with the ADMIN and the rest of the user names, it doesn't matter what name I log in as it always goes to the same black Safe Mode screen as before but it will freeze there forever. So I had to manually shut it down. When it restarted I hit F8 to get it out of safe mode and chose restart computer normally, then when it restarts the same exact thing thing happens. I've tried every option at the F8 selection screen. So I put in a cd with Mepis Linux on it that my cousin gave me, but I didn't install it I have been running it off the disk. And I have no clue what to do next.
had blue screen so re-started in safe mode and searched for suggested problem....MpFirewall.sys.......found 2 files.........removed them to recycle bin because didn't know what to do with them. Can i safely delete now and what else should I do?
