LAN Connection Not Recognized - Wizard Not Showing
Jan 1, 2008
Just built a new desktop with wireless built into the motherboard. The motherboard also has 2 LAN ports, but neither is showing up in my network connections or in my device manager. There are only two network adapters that show up, the 1394 Net Adapter and a Realtek RTL8187 Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter. I've tried creating a new connection using the new connection wizard but the LAN connection I try to create never shows up in network connections. I've tried looking for drivers that might help but I haven't found anything. Are there any steps I'm missing in setting up my LAN connections?
I recently reinstalled Windows XP Home on a friends computer, but when I went to create their dialup connection to the internet, I couldn't.I went into the 'Internet Connection Wizard'. Told it that I was connecting directly to the internet. Then I told it I was going to set up the connection manually. But whenever the option comes up to setup a dial-up or broadband connection, the dial-up option is greyed out and unselectable. In device manager, it shows my modem as being fine. It's installed with no conflicts.
I'm using a fairly new install of Windows XP SP2 on my laptop.
Clicking on "New Connection Wizard", then select the "Connect to my Workplace" option which would normally allow me to create a VPN connection, is greyed out.
I've googled on this problem and found issues suggesting that
1. XP SP1 be re-installed (I'm upto SP2, which I've tried re-installing without success) 2. HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionTelephony be deleted (have tried this, rebooted, no success) 3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesRasManPPPEAP25 and 26 (tried this, rebooted, no success) 4. Find SR.INF and re-install (tried, rebooted, no change)
Having tried all of the above, I've had no joy at all. The VPN option in "New Connection Wizard" remains greyed out.
The problem did appear to begin when I did a System Restore after a bad s/w installation.
In addition - when I try to re-start the Remote Access Connection Manager Service I receive Error 5: Access is Denied. I'm logged on as a Local Administrator. I believe this is related.
Audio died recently, though I realize that now in retrospect.Started running real slow, finally died 4 weeks ago, MOBO wouldn't recognize Hard drive.after trying everything under the sun, I finally bought new harddrive. I installed winXP sp2 After installation, No Network connections. After trouble shooting I discovered that when I change the BIOS to enable on board ethernet, the MOBO recognizes that the PCI ethernet card is there and installs network connections...BUT, when I plug in the cable from the router, It does NOT see the bandwidth. It reads 10MBps when my laptop (plugged into the sme router ) reads 100. Additionally there is a green light on the back indicating that there is a connection AND my router lights up like something is connected. My device manager WILL show the ethernet card and that it is working properly. BUT no network connection (can't browse the I-net, can't connect to other computers on my network, PC is not visible to others on the network. total bytes sent and received remains 0.
I want to migrate data from my old computer (98) to my new computer (XP) via serial cable. To do that I need to create a "Wizard Disk" for my old computer. I'm trying to use "File and Settings Transfer Wizard" on my new computer to create the Wizard CD, but that program doesn't recognize my CD-RW/DVD drive (E. The dropdown list used to select the output device includes choices for only F, G, H, and I, my 8-in-1 media drives. How can I get it to write to my CD on drive E?
I have a Sabrent SBT-EKU25 external enclosure with a 2.5 inch hard disk in it. This is a USB 2.0 drive and whenever I connect it to USB 2.0 port, it is not recognized (or "recognized" as an unknown device" ) on all my machines. It however is recognized as a drive and works fine on one laptop which has only USB 1.1 ports.I have tried separately powered USB hubs as well without success. So I don't think it's a power issue.I have even tried deleting all USB devices in Device Manager and let the machine rediscover them.
my cable is not working properly.Every 15-20 minutes my internet connection is broken even though the modem is online and there is no problem with the cable coming into my house. I have to reset the cable modem and then it works for another 10-20 minutes until the next cut. Ive had this problem before (last time i changed computers) but cant remember how it was resolved. I already talked to my ISP support but these guys are brain damaged or something and cannot even comprehend my problem and all 3 actually concluded that i had somehow contracted some killer virus immediately after connecting my computer and this virus was the root of my problems
I go into network connections, then I try to disable my lan connection and enable my wireless and bamm."Error Disabling Connection- It is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may have one or more protocals that do not support Plug-and-Play".
I have tired to get rid of this bridge connection that is on my local area connection. I try to remove it with the bridge connection area and all it says is "To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing." I have AT&T hig speed internet and tired talking to them and they said it was on my end, plus I spend two hours on the phone to someone who doesn't know much english and not alot about computers. So can someone please help me. The only way I can connect to the internet is through the my D-Link router which sucks
I got a Toshiba with windows XP.. Its an older laptop and runs slow.. which is fine for what i need it for.. It is connected through a Dlink Cable modem. Recently moved and had a DSL connection of 3 years no problems. Had to switch to cable broadband. The lights all light up solid no problem. Network cable connected to no problem. Problem : NO internet
Unplug netowkr cable from cable modem (get the network cabled unplugged in windows, so it is seing the modem or atleast talking to it)Tried using the windows xp network srtup wizard. I did that hub one (connected thourhg a hub) and i tried the direct connection (goes from modem to computer).
I've been trying to use Remote Desktop to connect from my home computer to my office network's machines. I've followed all the instructions except for the part where it talks about getting a "virtual private network connection". Not sure if I have this part done right. Not even sure if this is the problem. Is there something that needs to be set up before being able to connect from a home computer to an office machine?
Running Windows XP on my laptop. When inserting any new plug 'n play device into any of my three USB ports, the Add Hardware wizard tells me that a device intallation is already in progress and I am to wait until that installation is complete. However, there is no other device being installed. I checked my device manager to see if anything is unrecognized, but no question marks. Any ideas on how I can install a new piece of hardware (in this case a USB memory stick)?
When I try to go to safe mode, it works perfectly, till I have to log in, doesn't matter what I do after about 10 seconds it shuts down automaticly. Even if I logged in almost, it just shuts down right away after those 10 seconds. I already had this problem after a half year I had this PC (even after a few times formatting), and I have no idea why..
Someone told to run System Restore Wizard from 'Help and Support' in the start menu. But 'Help and Support' doesnt open. I click it but nothing happens. This is also since a while. The same problem with 'Search' and 'Run...'.
Does anyone know a way to fix one or both these problems? And is there another way to run a system restore?
running windows xp. purchased faz wizard(from multisource), downloaded software. continued to get error message regarding port problem. working with their support. seems to come down to ms fax wizard driver overrides new fax wizard driver. even went to dos prompt and removed ms fax driver and reinstalled software but still have ms fax driver overriding new driver. do i need to add a port? is it a driver problem? new to this, hope it makes sense.
I just recently ran in to a problem with the CD wizardof Windows XP.When I try to burn data on to a CD it keeps telling me to insert a disk into the drive, even though there is a disk in the machine.I have used other programs such as Musicmatch and HP's program called ecordnow and all work just fine. I have tried to uninstall and then reinstall the drive but to no avail.
Every time I start my computer I get the "found new hardware wizard" even though I haven't installed any new hardware. When I clicked on it to see what hardware it was talking about it told me it was Navex15 and was going to search for software for it. I canceled this, because I don't know what that is.
I have Windows XP Home installed and my dvd/cd burner is a Device Description SONY DVD RW DRU-530A. I have burned many files, photos, and music on this unit using cd-r discs. I am now using DVD-r discs and the burner will not recognize the disc. I tried DVD+r discs and have the same problem. Attached is the statement I get when I try to burn a disc. Should I go back to a CD-R disc or what could the problem be? I have tried to burn using Windows and using Nero with the same result.
I have been using this pc with windows xp for about a month now and up to now I have had no problems, but for some reason my drive has suddenly stopped reading dvds...My drive is an Optiarc DVD-RW AD-5170AI can insert a cd and it recognizes and reads the disk perfectly, but when I insert a dvd windows appears to start to read the disk, but after a few seconds nothing seems to be happening except that the read light on the drive is lit and the drive makes a few strange sounds. I have left it to load for a few minutes but still nothing happens. After searching, I have found 2 possible solutions:The first was to uninstall the driver and restart. Upon restart windows will reinstall the device.I tried that twice, still experiencing the same problem.
When I first got the computer, when I plugged in a digital camera, I got a "found new hardware" pop-up, thereafter when plugging in the USB cable, the XP camera wizard popped up and the pictures were downloaded without a fuss. At some point it stopped working, and I've ended up using Picassa to get the images d'ld, but it won't let me add photos to an existing folder. I want the Windows wizard to work again, that was better. My new camera is not recognized at all, and if anything pops up, it's Explorer. I tried to install drivers from the disc that came with the camera, but keep getting a message that says I don't need to. I've tried to manually add the camera with the "add hardware" function, but it won't work.
A Toshiba Satellite 2805-S503 that originally came with Windows ME. My friend at work upgraded my OS to Windows XP but now my CD-ROM drive doesn't recognize CDs. It recognizes DVDs and some games, but it won't read any CDs.
Cd/dvd appears to be working but when a cd is installed a message is received to install a cd so it is not possible to install any software from a cd as it does not appear to recognize that a cd is already installed
When I try to go to the ipconfig command line in xp, I get this message: is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I was trying to clean my DNS cache.
What would cause a relatively new HP Media Center computer to recognize other things inserted into any of the USB ports in the front (for example, a jump drive), but NOT recognize one device (a Lowrance iWAY 500c GPS car navigation device) that is readily recognized when it's plugged into a different computer? The HP computer is a friend's. The "different computer" is mine, a custom machine from Puget Systems with a P4 on an Asus MoBo. On the friend's computer, we get a "bubble" message from the taskbar to the effect that the device is not recognized -- so it knows something is plugged in, but apparently doesn't have the driver for it.
Her system is running Win XP and I assume (but don't know for sure) that she's kept up with Windows updates. When I check MyComputer, the Lowrance isn't on the list. In Device Manager, it's listed as "Unknown device".I'm wondering about things like the HP lists a pot full of drives because it has all the camera card slots, etc. in the front panel (I think the drives go all the way up to J:, almost all of which are "removable drives".
I recently changed processors - nothing too technical -except now 5 times out of 6 , my PC will not recognize my DVD drive. There was no problem before.
on another thread, i'm looking for an answer to a problem with my daughter's computer and her dsl connection i was asked to run ipconfig/all on both my computer, that works well with dsl modem, and her's, which doesn't. the command prompt brings this error message "'IPCONFIG' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
i have belking N+ adapter comes with a stand which plugs in to my usb drives. Recently i have been getting Device is not recognized ive read through many forums on the "Fix" i unplugged my computer i un-installed my drives and the problem still continues only if i have the original belking stand. when i remove the stand and connect the adapter straight to my computer everything is fine. I did some tests with other usb extension cables i get the same problem but after removing and plugin in the cable a few times it works. Ive had moments when i have the belking stand connected i will get a connection signal but a few seconds later it will send a message USB device not recognized.
I have an HP Compaq 6515b and after I deleted Nero (could have been before that) I noticed that it only recognizes my drive as a CD Drive and no longer my DVD drive. It won't let me burn DVDs so do I need to search out DVD software? I have gone to HP and the only thing that they say about a DVD (drivers wise) is for a WinDVD program. What do I need to install to get my DVD burner back?
