On a laptop with Win 2000 operating system, while working in Word the keystrokes stopped appearing. Closed Word and started a new document, still the problem exists. Restarted the laptop and now cannot enter the password. The keystrokes do not appear.
For the last few weeks I've had a problem logging off from one user id and then on to another (not just switching users). When I log off from the first user id the normal XP login screen is displayed but when I click onto the password box for the new user the cursur doesn't appear in that box and I can't enter the password. If I select a user id that doesn't have a password then I can log on as them, the problem is only with user ids with passwords. Restarting XP then allows me to log on to any user id as normal.
If you want to go straight to the Desktop, go to Start>Run and type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes. Then select your account from the list, and uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". I tried to the user enter a username and password I unmark it but it couldn't type anything on it. Bob Augello isn't highlight either.
I have has this problem for about 6 months now, when trying to log on and enter a password the cursor doesn't appear and requires a reboot in order to log on (the cursor will then reappear)In the mean time I have removed all passwords, which isn't a solution.
When booting up (XP), I get to the screen where I select the user name and enter the password. Then I get my usual wallpaper screen but no icons, start button, task bar, tray etc etc. I can't right click on the screen.
I CAN do Crtl+Alt+Del and get a run prompt up and browse the various drives (and even run software through this, e.g. internet) but the desktop is always completely blank. I have tried Safe Mode and restore last known good etc but neither works both same result, get to wallpaper but no icons.
I have a new xp64 machine, and when I'm away from my machine for 10 mins, I have to re-enter my password to continue working. How can I stop this auto-logout?
So I'm having a bit of a nightmare trying to get my copy of XP to boot.Every thing was working fine and then I tried to make a back up image of my drive using Norton Ghost 2003. I have a 200Gb Wester Digital SATA drive and an Asus A8n-SLI mobo. I think that there might have been some problem with the nVidia IDE/SATA drivers as ghost crashed half way thorugh the image making process. Now when I try to boot I get a "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"
I've been messing with and Googling this problem all day and am stumped My laptop: Toshiba A105-S4134 XP SP2 MCE 2005 Intel T2400 Duo Core 2 GB RAM1. Two days ago I had a glitch - a bunch of browser windows were open and the system just sort of froze up. I ended up doing a hard restart. The PC then took a longer than normal time to boot back up.2. That made me nervous, so yesterday I made True Image images of both partitions on the HD, that is C: (OS and apps) and D: (data).3. This morning I decided to run a memory diagnostic disk (I had memtest86+ and Windows Diagnostics CDs on hand). I set boot priority to CD/DVD ROM using Start > All Programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Toshiba Assist > Optimize > Toshiba Hardware Settings
For some reason my other computer i dont understand it alot but when it comes to a Disk Boot Failur, enter system disk and press enter i usually just shutdown computer plug out the wait around 5-10mins but for this time it has really driven me up the wall. at the moment now it hasnt worked and im asking for help here are some of the things i did... like i said before jst left it and wait... putting OS disk in and try to repair didnt work... try to reinstall didnt work it said it cant OS system something like that... changing my boot system to have HDD first and than CD-ROM than floppy (yes i do have a floppy drive).. but one thing it had told me Win XP when i first tried to repair it it said you have to quite when it count down on when to reboot it said if you have a floopy disk unplug it out and i did it and still not working.
Occasionally when I'm typing out something in a text box, program, whatever, my cursor will just pause and several keystrokes might be dropped if I'm typing fast. This seems to happen randomly in spurts, like some days it's really bad and other days the problem doesn't occur. However, something related happens frequently in games, where I might press a key to go forward and it'll register as being continually pressed until I press the key once again. Specific keys don't do this, it seems like all of them do!
Although I have a mouse with my laptop, I sometimes just use the touch pad if I'm not going to be on very long. With the touch pad being, well, touchy, I experimented with keystrokes.I found that the laptop (with XP Home) will shut down if I press "Alt+F4" keys, then the "U" key for shut down. I tried it on my desktop (with XP Pro) and it worked there too.If it doesn't seem to work, click somewhere on the desktop and try again.
by posting this here but the threads go by so fast I don't think someone that may have an answer can help. My topic, the title of this post is now on page 10 of the XP forum. I hae a Dell e310, xp home, sp2, IE browser, optical kb and mouse. Itried a usb kb on here but same thing happens. I am handicapped and most everything I do has to be doe twice....another typo.....t wrks ok in OE, notpad etc, but not in boxes like this. anybody ever heard of this? I've correced many keystrokes in this ost just to make it readable.
Well a few months back, I had a problem in which pressing the DEL key repeatedly, no matter where, would cause my computer to freeze up momentarily. I formatted my computer and the problem was solved. Now, recently, I'm having the exact same problem, however it's not the tilde key. It doesn't matter if it's a text box, or in winamp, or anything. By just pressing this key twice or more times, my computer will freeze for about 5 seconds
This is my first time using hyperterminal. In the "connect to"windows, I entered the name of the remote computer and portnumber. I was able to see the greeting message from the remote computer. But the windows did not respond to the keyboard.Whatever I typed did not show up in the windows and had no effect. How exactly should I communicate with hyperterminal? How do I makeit recognize the keyboard input?
After I enter a series of keystrokes and stop, I get the chimes sound. This is quite annoying but I can't find a setting to turn it off. The only way to make it stop is to select "No Sounds" in the Sounds and Audio Devices section of Control Panel
I'm not sure if this is something that is possible with Window's native software. But, hopefully, it is Basically, I am working with an online database. My work requires me to cut/paste different lines of text from my hard drive onto the online database Typically, to cut/paste, I highlight the text, right click > cut > paste. However, this text is erased as soon as I select something else.Is there a way I can set up keystrokes to get around this? For example, Say I need to cut/paste the following:1) "Red" 2) "Rubber" 3) "Ball" Can I set up Windows so that "Red" will be outputted whenever I press a certain key combo (say F1/C) and that "Rubber" will be outputted when I press F2/C?
I have a proble+m with +my keyboard. When I hit certain keys +my co+mputer does strange things. Here's a list of things I've found wrong:
"u" brings up windows standby +mode. "end" places a period where the cursor is. "m" types +m "7" opens my IE home page right bracket - shuts down windows
I haven't knowingly changed and key settings. Virus scan co+mes up negative.
My VPR Matrix (XP Home) Notebook's screen can ONLY be seen in the sunlight--but even then it is nearly impossible to see! What I want to do is view the computer on my external monitor, so I can transfer some files to another computer--but I can't see to change the settings. Can this be done just using 'keystrokes' or is there some other way?FYI: I bought this computer from BestBuy. It was quite expensive in 2003. recently, I brought it back to have it repaired. The Geek Squad wrote up a work order and charged me a $238.00 non-refundable deposit (as the warranty was no longer in effect). They told me they'd have to send it to California to be repaired.
I have had this problem in the past, solved by rebooting. Must have been something I have done, Bill would never make a mistake like this one.The problem is that all of a sudden, my keystrokes are desrever i.e. reversed. This results in passwords being entered incorectly, a pain because you cannot see it happening. You realise what is going on when you click on forgotten password and your e-mail address appears backwards when typing it
for ex - when i open my wireless modem it requires the following series of keystrokes 1. ctr+alt+I 2. enter 3. password 4. enter 5. enter 6. enter.is it possible to set up a single command to initiate the entire series of keystrokes?
I have Windows XP Pro installed on IBM T60 Laptop.Whenever I start the Laptop up,the Windows Security Sey up Wizard appears and I wish to stop this appearing every time.In addition,if I fill in my Windows password on the security wizard the system says that I am using the incorrect password. Please can someone advise me how to solve these problems.
I ran the network setup wizard on both computers, when i go to 'view workgroup computers' and click on the one i want to connect to i am asked for a password, i tried the admin password and the password for the user that ran the wizard -- neither worked .
I have just installed a linksys wireless router onto my desktop computer to add a wireless laptop and for some reason, when the User Logon screen comes up. The hand cursor never becomes a cursor for me to type in passowords to user accounts. I went into safe mode and then into control panel and deleted the passwords for each user acct and now I can get into the accounts but how can I add the passwords again and be able to type them in. We have 3 user accounts on this pc and would like to have them password protected.
I was doing a clean up with Ccleaner etc and in my haste I did not take note of what I was clicking. Spybot Search and Destroy flashed up and I clicked to allow, or not allow as the case may be, to do something to, from what I can remember, 'WLON' or something similarly named. In any case, what happens now is that I fire up the computer, enter my password, the desktop briefly flashes up for a split second(no icons) and then it immediately logs off and goes to password entry again.
My account on my computer (Win XP Pro SP2) is an Administrator account. Over a year ago, I got tired of entering my password because I an the only person that uses this computer. I did something so it would boot without the password screen appearing ( I don't remember what, but I think I left the password line blank). Since the computer boots directly to my account, I am never prompted to enter a password; but if I use Power Options (and the computer sleeps), it wakes to the login screen and I cannot reenter my account. I have to reboot. On the login screen, I have tried leaving the password blank and entering every password I use, but I get an Invalid Password response.
When yesterday I turned on the computer and did not have to enter any passwords. I finally realized I could use the wireless set up utility. I ran the wireless set up wizard from the control panel put my flash drive in the usb port, took my flash drive out of the desktop usb port hub, put it into my laptop, installed. i put the flash drive back into the USB port hub at the desk top and nothing happened - the mouse wouldn't move and no keyboard, so I hit restart.....
Web sites I'm trying to enter partially appear, but, I can't enter as I get little boxes with a red X in the middle. I've already looked to make sure the "show pic" is checked under advanced multimedia and it is. I really need this fixed ASAP.
